  • Excellent Waiter Ron
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 11/24/2014
The service here fell short of great, solely because soda refills took a long time. Otherwise, this place was extremely good, from hostess to coat check attendant, to the person who refills drinks. Our waiter Ron was a breath of 'comical/quick' wit fresh air, especially in the midst of an otherwise intense work day. I'll go back just to be served by Ron! Ron's food recommendations were great. Based on the fact that I had a taste for scallops, his recommendation of the Scallops with Risoto was 'on-point'. The presentation was also very good but nothing made it exceptional. All I had was water so I can't spek as to their drinks.

Catch 35 is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The staff is always pleasant and accommodating. The food is absolutely amazing - I highly recommend the Oscar-style swordfish, or the twin lobster tails. The drinks are delicious as well. This is a great place for any special occasion.

Great food, great service. Attentive wait staff. Went for our anniversary which I had mentioned in our Open Table reservation. They read it and wished us HappyAnniversary. The crab legs were sweet, the filet was cooked perfectly and the deserts were excellent. After a terrible experience at a different classic Chicago seafood restaurant we decided to try Catch 35. Needless to say , "We are hooked!" and will return! Thank you Catch 35!

My wife and I visited Chicago for the first time and our hotel was next door to this restaurant, we went for dinner and had a great experience, the Oysters Rockefeller were Amazing, so it was the Sea Bass, good wine selection and a very modern elegant setting, we missed the jazz music since we arrived just after 9:00pm, will go back early next time to enjoy the music too.

There are plenty of good seafood restaurants in Chicago with accommodating, knowledgeable servers. You don't need to pick Catch 35. Our server, Johnny, was more of an order-taker than "server." I got the wrong entree; he never came back to apologize or check on us. We were a table of 4 celebrating a special occasion, which he knew about. No one at the host/hostess stand thanked us or asked about our experience on the way out. Everyone was very indifferent. The whole experience was disappointing.

Catch 35 is dependable, if you're looking for fresh seafood in Chicago. All of the dishes are simply and well prepared. Service is attentive, but not overly so, and preparation to delivery at your table is timely, which makes the spot perfect for lunch. On this occasion, I had the Chilean sea bass, which was delicately steamed with a ginger soy sauce. It was delicious and light, and met my interest in having a protein rich, light lunch. I have never had a bad meal at Catch 35 and will be back.

Meal and service adequate . So called 'reservation' got us a tiny table in an overcrowded room.. Table for two squished to side and ambiance was poor!! Noise was loud from many diner groups. Glad Catch 35 is busy, but not a place for nice evening, quiet dinner. I wonder how many diners were repeat customers?? We won't return.

I went because of the tribune's recommendation of their lobster rolls and was very disappointed. The bun was too large and very dry which took away from the entire experience though the lobster itself was good. The creme brûlée was grainy rather than creamy. Overall, an expensive disappointing experience.

Enjoyed our dining experience and would return. Service and food were excellent. We would of enjoyed sitting up front near the music but unfortunately the acoustics there make it to loud depending on the music/musician playing. (To loud during our visit) We were then placed way in the back with no view. Not necessarily a bad thing since the only view needed was the beautiful woman sitting across from me. Oysters Rockefeller... Great appetizer!!

Our server was terrific. I recommend the sashimi and the halibut. We also really enjoyed the hearts of palm salad and the beet salad. The creme brûlée; awesome! perfect place to go before a show at the Chicago Theater: so close, we parked once and walked to the show. Dinner at 5:30 for an 8:00 show was just right.

My husband and I had theatre tickets. Our evening started poorly, having been rear-ended on our way downtown. We got to the restaurant on time and were promptly seated. We then waited for over twenty minutes until my husband flagged a hostess and asked if we were assigned a waiter. At that point, not only did a waiter arrive, but the manager came by to apologize and offer us a complimentary appetizer. Service was stellar for the rest of our visit and the food was excellent. Highly recommend the blackened Block Island swordfish -- it was delicious. We will be back again soon.

This is one of the few classy restaurants in Chicago where you do not feel squeezed in . The room is light and airy and has a classy feel with the live music . The staff seem very relaxed and did not stress about the extra numbers in our party that turned up or the fact we stayed at the bar for a while before eating . we never felt rushed to leave after the meal either which is nice.

Each member of our party of four was very satisfied with the food. It was fresh, excellently prepared, creative and delicious. I was expecting the service to be comparable to the food but was disappointed as it was mediocre at best. Aloof, disinterested, and inattentive at times compromised an outstanding dinner.

Took my grandmother for her 76th birthday, I was impressed with the wine list and the fresh seafood. But there were some sour notes, our server seemed to have an attitude with us, especially when he was in the wrong. He got my mom and grandmother's drink orders mixed up (he did offer to fix it, but he had an attitude). When talking with our server, it seemed as if we were bothering him. The pecan pie was DELICIOUS, but my grandmother was not pleased because she said it had too many pecans for her.

The food was very good to excellent (companion, a foodie, said he'd never had better scallops), the location is good, but our service was NOT. We ordered appetizers, soup, and entrees. The entrees came about the time we put our forks down from the appetizers. "What about our soup?" we asked. Waiter said he could send food back and bring out soup. We decided we didn't want warmed up entrees and would have the soup afterward. Entrees were fabulous. Soup after the entree was a disappointment (and it came considerably after the entree). Companion had to ask for more bread several times; you would think after messing with the soup, the waiter would have been all over us, but Nope. Waiter didn't offer to comp part of meal; we had to ask.
