Diner Reviews
  • "This is one of our very favorite restaurants. The food is exceptional and the service unusually good. The restaurant is divided into 3 (I believe) levels, giving a sense of being in an intimate dining area. The bar is very far from the eating area, allowing for a pleasantly quiet dining experience. Five stars all the way!"

  • "It goes without saying the food was great but the experience was unsurpassable. Sheila, our waitress, responded to our request for any guidance with "trust me and your meal would be great". She was more than correct. We ordered each course one at a time enjoying every mouthful. Never pushy but spot on after interpreting what we liked. A dining experience. Thanks again Sheila"

  • "We were seated close to the bar and the music was so loud we could barely talk.(good music, just way to loud) The service was very attentive."

  • "Never miss eating here when in Chicago. Fish is always fresh, staff friendly and never feel rushed."

  • "I would stick to the seafood. The two who had steaks both thought the were bland and overcooked."

  • "The food was incredible and the staff was very courteous and accommodating ! I would definitely return !"

  • "Exellent choice from friends. Nice ambiance, food excellent, great Fixe Prix menu, if desired."

  • "This was my first time patronizing Catch 35. The ambience was nice, but the décor was a bit seasoned. My out-of-town guest, who accompanied me, immediately stated that this restaurant must have been here for years! I really enjoyed the Prix Fixe menu which allowed me to choose a three course meal for a set price of 33.95. The lobster bisque was tasty, along with the salmon dinner and the lime pie. Although I would not rule out dining at Catch 35 again, it was not one of those culinary experiences that made me want to come back the very next day."

  • "Excellent restaurant! We are from out of town and couldn't have been happier with the food and service! Our waitress was wonderful and the food and atmosphere was fantastic! You can taste the freshness in the food and the time put into each dish! Would recommend to anyone!"

  • "All four of us found the whitefish dinner to be excellent. We are not from Chicago and as visitors we chise a dish that was not easy to find in the West. We were all happy with our choice. Service was attentive, but not hovering. I recommend Catch 35."

  • "We went for an early dinner after a Sunday matinee performance at the Goodman. Catch 35 has a great menu and the prices are great. We enjoyed the food and we will return."

  • "A group of 6 of us from Miami celebrated a friend's birthday with a fun weekend in Chicago and dinner at Catch 35 was a highlight."

  • "Extremely poor service starting with the two grumpy hostesses. Didn't get the booth we requested, slow service, no refills on drinks for 2 of our party, underwhelmed with food and my order was wrong. The only person that did a good job was the busboy who kept our water glasses filled. We wanted dessert but since the service was so slow we decided against it. The two tables next to us were complaining also, one didn't like their food and the other table was disappointed with the bad service."

  • "Derrick (our servier) was outstanding! We were there for over 2 hours (by Choice) and at no time did we ever feel like we were being pushed out the door. Food was amazing and worth the price."

  • "If you want to impress a date, spouse, or business prospect - and they love seafood - this is a great choice. We had dinner early on a Saturday evening (arrived between 5 and 5:30) and my wife had an Alaskan sockeye salmon that she said was the best salmon she'd ever had. My filet mignon medallions were also cooked to the desired temperature and very tasty. The prix fixe option I used for the medallions was a good deal, too, since it included the entrée (and side items), soup or salad, & dessert. And the bass-saxophone-piano trio, which started performing at 6:00, made the evening even more special. The waitress was knowledgeable and helpful. The food was outstanding. I can't afford to eat here all the time, but for a special occasion-yes!"

  • "Took my fiancé out for a romantic dinner. Catch 35 was a great decision to satisfy our seafood appetites. We chose the sampler oysters with three varieties and flavors as an appetizer. The main course was a sauté of scallops, shrimp and vegetables all well seasoned and done perfectly. Service was prompt and helpful."

  • "We have been to Catch 35 one other time. The food and servers are excellent. We brought another couple with us this time and we all would definitely go again. The sea bass was outstanding!"
    Dined on 8/8/2014
  • "The server was very good and very personable. He suggested all types of items on the menu and it was almost hard to pick. We really enjoyed the food and we see that nothing has changed over the last 15 years. We came when it had just opened and will always come back. It was our 24th wedding anniversary and we truly enjoyed it."

  • "On a good day, the walk to and from the Goodman is wonderful. Great seafood, enjoyable walk to an enjoyable play. Catch 35 also comps you on the valet through a credit on meal cost. Nice!"

  • "Make sure to get reservations. Locals eat here because it has good food at reasonable Chicago Downtown prices. This is a be back place. Enjoyed the dinner"

  • "We had an excellent dinner at Catch 35 ! Seafood and service were great. Pace was good but not rushed. Very nice for pre-theater in the loop!"

  • " They have these booths on the second level that are perfect for two. I always try to reserve one of them if I am meeting a client for dinner. Your conversations are YOUR conversations."
    Dined on 8/5/2014
  • "Catch 35 (both locations) is the best seafood restaurant in Chicago."
    Dined on 8/4/2014
  • "WE arrived a few minutes early and the place was not busy, but filled up quickly even around 5:30 PM. Service was perfect. Prices are a bit up but sharing entry made the cost appropriate. The signature dish is the Bass which was perfect as was the calamari. Also, valet parking is available and the restaurant refunds the cost. Good option if going to the Goodman theatre which is a block away. Overall, a real winner"

  • "The food menu and extensive wine list are nirvana. I recommend the oysters. But, the ultimate dish are the scallops. Great for hosting Clients, or a nice dinner with your significant other."

  • "Always a very good meal at very good prices. If you have theatre tickets, your valet parking is free...a real plus for me. Fixed price menu is a real deal. A bit noisy at the center row of tables. Next time I will ask for a booth against the wall"

  • "This restaurant was recommended to me by a Canadian friend of mine that was aware of my travelling to Chicago for the weekend. My friend recommended to me to visit Catch 35 and try their Sea Bass, I was told it would be the best Sea Bass ever eaten. In fact it was. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Chicago, it is in a great location, they provide entertainment, courteous staff, top notch food, drinks and ambience to your dining experience. Priced to fit everyone's budget too."

  • "I was there with a group of ladies for a bachelorette party. Our waitress was very knowledgeble and considerate of our time. She got us in and out within an hour and half. The food was delicious and the presentation was wonderful as well. Our waitress even told us about desserts so we could be thinking about what we wanted while we ate our entree. I cant wait to visit again."

  • "This is one of our favorite places to dine downtown. The service, food and drinks is always top notch! I have absolutley nothing bad to say about it. My only suggestion to the managment is to replace the burnt our light bulbs in the beautiful fixtures in the bar area. One of the main reasons we love this place is the live jazz entertainment. We always move to the bar after dinner and enjoy this superbly talented trio. I think next time we'll just eat in that area so we get more jazz time!"

  • "With all the great restaurants in Chicago, I had a hard time selecting one for a Client trip. I decided to pick one close to my hotel. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency-Chicago on W. Wacker. Catch 35 is a few blocks East on Wacker and it is a beautiful walk. It is a fantastic seafood/Asian restaurant. There were lots of other things on the menu for those that are not seafood lovers to choose from (we had a vegetarian and a steak lover in our group) The wine and drink list was amazing, also. Our waiter was very knowledgeable & attentive. The restaurant was able to change my reservations from 5 - 7 people with only a few hours notice. The place was packed on a Wed. evening at 6:30."

  • "We went to Catch 35 before the Theatre 730 pm show. The restaurant has a prix Fix menu for theatre goers which you pick 3 things off the regular menu. Sour or Salad, menu item and dessert. The items on menu are marked as to which items you can choose. The waiter we had was really knowledgeable of everything from wine to food. Service was fantastic and everything we had was great. We went there because of theatre and will return because the restaurant was great. I'm not a fish lover and steak medallions was so tender you didn't need a steak knife."

  • "Nice ambience with great food and reasonably priced. Great good was complimented by an even greater server. He answered our questions about the menu selections and was attentive to our table. Restaurant graciously accommodated my birthday request and brought a delicious slice of their signature cake with a birthday candle & ice cream to the table."

  • "Very expensive, but delicious food. The menu has a wonderful variety of seafood sensations. Would go back again for a special occasion. We celebrated a birthday, and the food & service were both 'top shelf'. No complaints!"

  • "Have been here before and have found the food to be excellent. Had the hallibut this time and it was wonderful. The serving size was very generous. The pesto and salsa served with it were wonderful.. Highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "This was our second visit. I had the Hawaiian tuna poke which was presented sashimi style with avocado. It came with pickled vegetables and sweet coconut milk rice. My taste buds were dancing a happy dance with all those different stimuli. My husband had the halibut with quinoa, vegetables and a spicy sauce which he said was the best when all those things were mixed together. Our only disappointment was the salads we ordered. Mine was the salt roasted beet salad with goat cheese which had mesclun lettuce that was definitely past its prime (yuck). My husband ordered a tomato and burrata salad, which unfortunately had been drenched in too much dressing. He ate the cheese with the bread but that was about all he could eat."

  • "The server was very attentive, food served in satisfactory time. It was a bit odd that they seated us at the very back of the restaurant up a few levels at 5pm. I guess they backload it, but it would be nice to have had a choice."
