Diner Reviews
  • "I didn't go looking for restaurant week menus but I did choose from that menu. The service is well-honed and attentive without being obtrusive. The appetizers, Oyster Bang Bang and Crab and Corn Chowder were well-presented and received. Both of us had the lobster tortellini which, while good, didn't really rise above the ordinary. I liked the place, the decor, and the service team. I think if I went back for dinner I'd have a broader options of choices and a better meal."

  • "This was our second evening meal at Catch 15. I don’t recall similar issues the first time, so perhaps this was an “off” night in the kitchen. During our 90-minute meal, we enjoyed 6 small plates, including 2 salads and 1 tartare (I list these because they should have required minimal preparation time). Before the third pair of plates arrived, we’d already tired of waiting for them and had requested our check. The check arrived shortly before those dishes. The food itself was great — well-seasoned and fresh, nicely presented — but the pacing was terrible."

  • "I had been looking forward to trying this restaurant for quite some time. The restaurant is cramped and caters mostly to a bar-drinking crowd, it's too loud to hear your companion's conversation. Most of the waitstaff is focused on the bar, the table service is slow and indifferent. We had lobster which was undercooked (ewww) and not cracked sufficiently to remove the meat without a lot of effort (if we ever saw our waiter again, perhaps we would have asked for help). He never checked on us, so we didn't have the opportunity to ask for lemon or butter. We'll never go back again. We've never written a review before but want to save others the time, trouble, and money. Life is too short, and money too precious, to waste on this place."

  • "Enjoyed lunch here last week. Oysters were very good and I was pleased with the selection on the menu. I expected the seafood choices, but other small plates and options provided nice diversity. We also enjoyed the tuna tartar, which I would definitely get again, the empanada and beef skewer/kabob. I look forward to coming back. It was nice to have the option of outside seating, but K street can be loud."

  • "The food was good, the price was good, the service was not good. We went at lunch time but they were only about half full, and the service was very slow. If they had been overly busy, the service might have been understandable, but they were not. A lunch that really should only have taken about an hour took over 90 minutes. On the plus side, we were a large group and they did split the bill without being asked, but I don't think that splitting the bill balanced the slow service to the level of a automatic 20% gratuity. One of the reasons I specifically wanted to try Catch 15 was to see if it would be appropriate for clients. With the level of service we received, I would have a hard time sending attorneys or clients there."

  • "Dined at Catch 15 on a weekday evening. Food was great - many different types of oysters both raw and baked plus other seafood items. Most of the menu is small plates which are great for sharing. Plates were innovative and generally very tasty. Prices are very reasonable for downtown Washington DC including the drink prices. Wine list is short but with good selections and great prices. Our only small concern is that by about 8 PM we were the only guests in the restaurant and it remained that way until we left at 10 PM at which point I heard the kitchen closed down. This didn't really impact the food or the evening but did seem kind of awkward."

  • "The three-course meal with wine pairings is excellent but the restaurant should offer more dessert options. The tuna tartare is great."

  • "We were so happy with this place. Service and food were outstanding. Best pre-fixed deal I have ever had."

  • "I visited Catch 15 for lunch. My friend and I both got the ...i think executive lunch - app, entree and dessert for $20. The food was very good and seasoned perfectly. The menu seems to have a great variety. I def will be going back."

  • "Prices are reasonable; food is okay; service is sub-par. They seem to have hired inexperienced waiters who do not understand the cues of restaurant customers. I've been there several times, and the service is always fair."

  • "We went for happy hour and had a couple of appetizers. The house wine was okay; the service was a little slow. The menu was intriguing, so I will probably go back when I can stay for dinner."

  • "If you are meeting friends or colleagues for lunch the 3-course lunch is excellent and the pace of the service gives you plenty of time to visit."

  • "Food was okay, nothing out of the ordinary -- which is too bad, since this neighborhood desperately needs some good additional lunch spots!"
    Dined on 7/15/2014
  • "I really like this place, the atmosphere is busy but no one seems hurried. Very accomodating service staff not to mention some of the best seafood you will find in DC for a reasonable price!"

  • "Waiter was poorly trained , couldn't seem to get order correct, poor attention to guests"

  • "I chose Catch 15 for its convenience, but I'll be back for the food. A huge cut above the pedestrian places along K Street - interesting food, well prepared and well priced."

  • "This place has a great Happy Hour! If you're not hungry but just wanna grab a small bite to eat then you will be fine. I know this is a tapas place but some of the things we had weren't that fulfilling. Also, do not order the cocktails during Happy Hour. It was basically just fruit juice. I didn't taste any alcohol. Stick with wine or beer during Happy Hour. The ceviche was very overpowering with the taste of onion and hardly had any seafood in the mix. The service was great. The hostess was extremely friendly. The owner was very involved with everything, including removing dirty plates from our table. Our server was great. If I was in DC again I would pass on this place as there are so many more choices."

  • "They need to find a new sea food supplier at the very least. The oyster sampler had no variety - despite the highly varied regions they supposedly came from, they were all very large, flavorless, not very good. That needs to improve significantly if the place is going to bill itself as an oyster bar. The lobster tail in the risotto was extremely tough to the point of not being edible. The service was fine, but awkward. With so many other good options in dc, I likely won't be going back."

  • "My first time dining here and will definitely be back. The atmosphere was great and the chairs are SO comfortable! Diverse menu and the vegetable empanadas are highly recommended!"

  • "We celebrated my wife's recent accomplishment of receiving her MBA from Penn State University. She really enjoyed it!! If she likes it, I love it!! Oysters were on point, wine on point, food on point!! We plan to go back soon!"

  • "Very attentive service, but at the same time, they were able to read if you wanted to be left alone."
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "All 5 of us enjoyed our dinner and our selections yet we couldn't figure out how to categorize the restaurant. There were Spanish, middle-eastern, seafood, and a few other items on the menu. It was a great experience. Thanks!"

  • "Catch 15 has good food - except for the baklava which is rolled rather than flat layers and not as sweet as it should be. We had the seared tuna and a salad which were both very good, as was the ricotta cheesecake. The restaurant would not take our Living Social voucher unless the bill was more than the voucher value and was very slow about showing up with the ordered extra (to go) which was a dessert that did not need preparation meaning that we were almost late for the theater performance afterwards for which we had tickets."
    Dined on 6/17/2014
  • "Had a lot of options for the lunch menu. It was divided into raw bar, small plates, and entrees. This allowed there to be a great selection without being overwhelming."

  • "I work not far from here and as they were building and said I have to check this out. This place did not let me down. Very beautiful in the inside, my kids said it was fancy. The food was d-elicious!!"

  • "The food was the best part of the experience. A little Spanish and Greek. But our table of four had trouble chatting over the loud tango music. We had a speaker directly over our table. I asked twice to turn it down just a bit. The second time got the attention of the manager who came to our table, interrupted our conversation to TELL me that it was Tango Night and they HAD to keep the music as it was. The dancers were at the far back end of this long restaurant and therefore not a great accompaniment to the tunes at our location. I was struck how he didn't get that we were part of his revenue and the dancers were an expense. Won't likely go back."

  • "A friend and I went here for dinner. We were seated immediately. Our waiter was outstanding, event the management cleaned off tables as needed. Each course was amazing, from the oysters, the scallops and every item we ordered was good."

  • "Atmosphere: Casablanca on K Street. Lamb tagine, tuna tartar, seared scallop small plates all excellent. Server didn't seem to know oyster basics ... disappointing for an oyster bar."
    Dined on 5/28/2014
  • "The Grilled Marinated Octopus with polenta, recommended by the manager was AMAZING. The Seafood Salpicon al Spagnolla ceviche we ordered was okay. Neither super delicious nor bad. The Oysters Imperiale was good, but very rich. The manager was really helpful with his recommendations. If I were to come back, I'd just order two of the grilled octopus, it was that good!"

  • "Very great. Especially if you like oysters. Went during Memorial Day weekend Saturday and it was not very full so we received excellent service. Our group of 6 (including some foodies) was the loudest and overall gave it an overall very great review. Will definitely try again."
    Dined on 5/24/2014
  • "Food was disappointing. Definitely wasn't worthy of the $90 bill. Appetizer was okay but the dinner food was rather bland. Hubby had Filet of Sole and I had the stuffed chicken breast. Both needed something. We had to leave there and go somewhere else for dessert. Ambiance was fun and captured the dc feel that we were looking for. "

  • "Two words: Veggie empanadas I realize this is a seafood place, but I am telling you, get the veggie empanadas. The atmosphere is great for a business lunch by day and a date by night. The space is a bit tight with larger than necessary furniture. I had to move my chair into the aisle on more than one occasion to get up. Still, it was a great dinner with quick service. "

  • "Went there for lunch because I had heard that the owners were the same group that had Tuscan West. Restaurant is very trendy with a good bar and various size tables. The food was excellent. I had a beet and tomato gazpacho that was very good and beef rib ravioli that had a great taste and wonderful sauce. "

  • "Although the 3 courses for $20 lunch special sounds like a good deal, I was greatly disappointed. Both my date and I agreed that we could have made better dishes at home. The pasta sauce tasted like it came out of a can of (bad) marinara, and I've never had such soggy tiramisu. The bread at the beginning of the meal and our caesar salads were the best part of the whole experience. Disinterested and casual waiters added to the poor experience, as did the dark brown decor that made you feel like you were undergroun and it was midnight, even though we were dining in the middle of the day. There are hundreds of other restaurants in DC i would choose to go back to spend my money on."

  • "I ate at the bar and I enjoyed the ambience there. Almost as good as the old Tuscana West. I had the salmon burger - delicious!"

  • "A group of 5 went for an early lunch and we wanted to try something new. The restaurant had a great feel and and set up. The food was tasty but for certain dishes too salty for my liking and the service was a little slow. It has a lot of promise and I would be open to try it out for a different meal."

  • "Our pre-theatre dinner was fine. We ordered a lot of small plates to share. Everything was tasty and nicely presented, but nothing was a real stand-out. The bar is nice, so I would think it gets a nice crowd in the later evening. Try it if you are in the area and want a nice spot to relax and have some small bites. The only real issue was with the chars at the tables; they are very deep and so you cannot relax into them and still reach your food on the table. Pillows would be helpful, especially for smaller folks who do not fill up these very large chairs."

  • "Delicious meals. Plates were not large which was great! Service was wonderful and prompt/friendly. Sangria yummy!!!"
