  • "We all ordered the flat iron steak special and all four of us loved it. We started with Sauteed Mediterranean Mussels , garlic shrimp and a Grilled Chorizo Skewers all of which were excellent. Great place to go. We go about 2 times a month. People are friendly and nice."

  • "I am so happy to have stumbled upon Catalan. The staff was warm and friendly. The quality of the tapas was amazing. Sharing food with friends is so much more fun than ordering a single entree. I only wish they had more tapas on the menu. Anyone who enjoys great food and charming service will love Catalan"

  • "Dishes are small portion for the prices of the entries, it could be a little bit more to the portion, but overall food taste great. The wait staff are very friendly."

  • "we love Catalan; Drew is an amazing chef and has it together. One of the best gazpacho we have ever tasted! Their paella is definitely the best in the desert. Great service too."

  • "Palm Springs/Palm Desert area boasts many top flight eateries these days, none better than Catalan. Great food, service and ambiance---it's been my favorite since it first opened two years ago. Depending on the season Chef Drew keeps things fresh and inventive, every time I go there's something new and always tasty to try."

  • "Quiet White tablecloth location with high ceilings. Could use a more inviting entrance. Once inside, Food, service, wine and ambiance are excellent. My first choice in Rancho Mirage."

  • "From the time we entered and were greeted by the waiting staff including the head chef, everything was perfect. Great drinks, great service thougjh the limited summer menu was absent of some of my favorites. Yet, as a full time resident we know of the summer struggle the restaurants go through and very much appreciate the good one like Catalan remaining open."

  • "We just discovered this delightful restaurant! The Chef is very creative, and the result is delicious!!! A must is the mussels....large mussels adorned with fresh corn, and the best broth one could ever want!!! We look forward to our next dinner there!"

  • "How wonderful to have such an inventive cuisine and informally elegant place to go in Palm Desert/Rancho Mirage! And the special price fixe menu was a real bargain! (Especially b/c you could get a glass of premium wine for just $5. I LOVED my tempranillo!) I had the bucatini sardino pasta entree, a wonderfully fresh mixture of salty and sweet ingredients. It was preceded by memorable appetizers (watermelon and pork belly salad was plentiful and fresh). My wife had a Kobe burger -- seemingly un-genre-friendly, but it was accompanied by Mediterranean-ized condiments (e.g., subtly pickled onions, rather than just raw ones; smoked sun-dried tomato relish, rather than just catsup). Would go back again gladly!"

  • "It's rare to find a restaurant where every dish is prepared well, served hot (or cold) and the ingredients are absolutely fresh. I haven't sampled everything on the menu but my goal is to try! Dining with friends, I sampled their entrees and each one was delicious. What a delightful discovery. Catalan is excellent in all regards. Congratulations to the chef and his team."

  • "First time, and was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was, and the variety of choices - even on this limited menu. Had clams for app & scallops for the entre' and both were delicious! The service was just right, too. Will certainly go back. I thought it did convey a touch of Spain."

  • "This restaurant is consistently outstanding, from the moment you walk in the door and are greet by the chef's wife who is extremely warm and attentive, to the great bartender to the friendly wait staff. The food is always great, fun drinks, good wine list. This is just a consistently all around wonderful experience!"

  • "Enjoyed a really interning and reasonably priced restaurant week menu. Each dish was unique and delicious. From pork belly and watermelon starter to special pork short ribs and the super rich molten chocolate cake, this dinner was a real treat. Comfortable decor, crisp white tablecloths enhance the experience. We will definitely come back."

  • "My husband and I enjoy the fabulous food, wine prices are reasonable, staff is friendly. We're always introducing our friends to Catalan and always bring our out of town guests to try your Paella."
    Dined on 6/7/2014
  • "Although the hostess is Spanish-looking, the menu the night we dined there didn't really convey Spain, as the name Catalan implies. The food preparation was outstanding. But good bread doesn't require warming. Ours was hot. I was a little surprised there were no olives brought to the table with or instead of bread. Once the bread cooled to room temperature, it was fine and the pesto served with it was good, too. I'm just not familiar with Spanish pesto. As a non-meat eater, I could have used a few more meat-free options. The service was very good, even though the waiter had to explain that the kitchen had lost our food ticket. Service could have been excellent, lost ticket notwithstanding, if plates had not been removed without asking."

  • "Visiting Palm Desert our friends took us to Catalan which they had been raving about. It was restaurant week and, while we really enjoyed what we had, it would have been nice to have had the opportunity to see and order off the regular menu which is what we heard so much about. "

  • "We went to Catalan during Palm Springs Restaurant Week, although we have dined at this restaurant two times previously. This was the best meal we have had at Catalan. Scallops that were tender, presented on a bed of roasted corn. Another person in our party had the steak, which he said was cooked to perfection. Someone else had the fish, which he also enjoyed. The side dishes were so generous that all four of us could share. We brought our own wine; there was no problem about having done so. Desert was a wonderful chocolate concoction that melted in the mouth. Service was attentive though not cloying. A great dining experience. "

  • "Vibrant, lively, mature but not elderly crowd. Great food, reasonable prices and beautiful ambience. Nice scene & a pleasure to eat solo in the bar--a few tapas or a full meal. A welcome addition to the local scene. "

  • "Restaurant week attracted us to the restaurant with little knowledge about the food. What a pleasant surprise. Food was outstanding and one of the the most memorable dining experiences in the desert. Menu selections were unique and varied. Main courses of Scallops and Cod, perfectly done. Ceviche was fresh, full of flavors and perfectly dressed. What's more, Wednesday was half price on all bottles of wine! Our server Kiersten was very attentive, personable and knowledgeable. She took time to answer questions, and talk about the food. Often time servers act rehearsed and scripted. I did not feel rushed nor ignored. Thank you."

  • "Our first dining experience at Catalan was during Restaurant Week, so we ordered from the special three-course Restaurant Week menu. The salads and entrees were excellent, as was the service. Desserts were so-so. We look forward to returning and sampling from the broader menu."

  • "Not just a neighborhood gem but worthy of a car ride from either end of the Coachella Valley. Lovely environment, layering of flavors in the food simply outstanding and Heidi provided great service. The type of place you could come back to every week."

  • "Unfortunately, they were not serving any tapas on the dinner menu since they were only featuring their Restaurant Week prix fixe offerings (though you could order off of a limited tapas menu if you dined in the bar area). I was a little wary of being limited to the 3-course prix fixe menu, but everything was delicious! I had the romaine lettuce salad served with a crostini topped with anchovy, flat iron steak cooked perfectly medium rare, and the rice pudding topped with macerated strawberries. Hubby had butter lettuce wedge salad, serrano ham-wrapped cod cooked just right, and crema catalan. All the dishes were well-seasoned and we were more than satisfied with quality of food and service. Would definitely return."

  • "We wanted to try a new place during our visit to Palm Springs since we would always go to safe, reputable places like Morton's or Ruth's Chris. I had to pick a place and I knew my kids love tapas and I, paella. When we got there, we were seated right away. We ordered steak skewers, bone marrow, chicken liver, calamari to start. My family loved all of these! We also had paella (was really good!) and the squid ink spaghetti but these took a while to come out and we waited a really long time for our entree. Because of these, we were given complimentary desserts. I wasn't so fond of the chocolate cake but the Valencia rice pudding was excellent! I'd love to come back to this place. "

  • "Savor the Mediterranean flavors at Catalan. Fresh, wonderfully prepared and simply put, an excellent dining experience. Veal Bolognese, Veal Milanese and their specialty Paella are the best you will get in the Desert. Highly, highly recommended!"

  • "This restaurant supposedly specializes in Spanish and Mediterranean food. The menu I previously read on line had several Spanish dishes, but the menu at the restaurant was different. I felt like asking were is the Spanish food, but my wife didn't let me. We had 3 tapas, the beef brochettes were hard, the stuffed peepers flavorless, the calamari overcooked and dry. The sauteed Mediterranean mussels had no chorizo, the broth had to much of can tomato, and needed garlic, salt, parsley etc. The broth was inedible. The branzino was supposed to be boneless, but it had the spine and all other bones, and it was dry. This restaurant is neither Spanish, nor Mediterranean. It is simple a bad restaurant with good service."
