Diner Reviews
  • "It was a busy Friday evening but nonetheless the service was friendly and attentive and the food arrived timely. They have a nice Martini list of suggestions and also a Martini of the week, Titos vodka infused with vanilla and blended with Godiva White Chocolate, sounded like a dessert but was not too sweet and I thoroughly enjoyed it."

  • "LOVE THE FOOD.. LIVE MUSIC WAS JUST WAY TO LOUD FOR SUCH A SMALL PLACE!"

  • "Really enjoyed the Chicken with fresh figs, apricots and strawberries in a delicious sauce. And the risotto with shrimp, scallops with a pesto sauce also delicious-and not too heavy. An of course, all the homemade desserts are wonderful. I try a different one each time, never disappointed."

  • "Apps- Figs stuffed with blue cheese and chopped pecans wrapped with prosciutto and served warm- Out of this world, Rock shrimp with a special spicy sauce also delicious, Salad with the roasted corn, avocado, cherry tomatoes- I could have stopped there! Main course- Chilean Sea bass-they were serving it coconut crusted but I asked for it scampi style and they were happy to oblige. They had a martini of the week that was outrageous! and almost the best, the dessert, trifle, I have not had this since my grandmother made it, out of this world. I will definitely go back for Saturday night they have entertainment that everyone at the table next to us was talking about. Boy am i glad i found this place!"

  • "Have been to Castalia many times with consistently good experiences. Most recent visit was typically good with the exception of our waitress bringing my wife the wrong entree. Not a catastrophe as the wrong dish was still acceptable."

  • "This is a great restaurant. The food was excellent but that is not uncommon in this area. What sets this restaurant apart is the warm welcome we received from the owners. They are clearly proud of their place and happy to be doing what they are doing and it shows."

  • "A few friends recommended Castalia and it took us a while to finally try it. Now that we have, we cant wait to go back. All the accolades they gave it were true or even better. Although not impressive from the outside, once inside you "get it""

  • "Place was packed. Glad I made a reservation. Food was good as always."

  • "Didn't expect such a fun evening. We know we can always count on the food being consistently delicious, which again it was. I must point out my chicken rollatini was exceptional as was my wife's pasta with the lobster and shellfish. But what completed the night was the quality of entertainment. The Jersey Girls put on quite a show and their "guests" are all so talented. The service was also worthy of praise."

  • "Nice menu, nice decor, nice, staff, food was just ok. Not bad, but not out of this world. Had to add salt to the three dishes we ordered. I little strange for Italian food. Saturday nights they have live entertainment (so keep that in mind if its not your cup of tea)."

  • "Have been to this restaurant 4-5 times in the past year. This is my first negative review. Prices went up and quality went down. The veal was inferior quality and not pounded thin like all previous times. The nicely roasted potatoes were replaced with watery, bland, processed mashed potatoes. Worse was the carrotts- brown outside shavings included with the vegetables. The place was packed because it was the last day of a Groupon. Dessert way overpriced for the sliver of cake given. Appears restaurant cut back on quality as a result of its groupon offering. My Mom said her salmon also wasn't as good as prior times. Hope this was just an off night."

  • "We had reservations for 2 but friends decided to join us, and without skipping a beat they rearranged the reservation floor plan for us. That was only the start of a wonderful evening. Our party of 6 were all smiles at the end of the meal. Everything we ordered, delicious salads, stuffed artichoke, fried calamari with an Asian twist, pasta dishes, lamb chops etc. all were prepared and presented to perfection. We shared 3 desserts which were homemade by the owner - berry triffle, raspberry almond tart and carrot cake-loved them all."

  • "We loved Castaglia the first time, 2nd time not so much. The service was downright awful. We had to ask for menus and then waited for 20 minutes before our order was taken. When the food finally came, it was not impressive. Gnocchi was cold and gummy, served with a hot bolognese sauce. Fettuccine was swimming in a salty cream sauce and couldn't be eaten. The stuffed pork special was over cooked and dry. Only the cavatelli with broccoli, sausage & oil was worth eating. We didn't even want dessert. When we wanted to leave, we couldn't find our waiter and had to ask one of the owners for the check. They definitely weren't staffed properly. With plenty of good Italian restaurant options in the area, we won't be giving Castalia 997 another try."

  • "Went to Castalia for Sunday dinner and I thought I was at my grandmothers. It seemed everyone in the place knew the owner or the people sitting next to them. What a wonderful and homey atmosphere with some of the most delicious food I have ever eaten."

  • "The food here is excellent. The service was excellent, too. They have live music at this restaurant, and it's a bit ill-suited to a fine-dining experience. When there was an artist playing soft renditions of classics on a guitar, it was fine. Once they broke out a PA system with 5 different singers, it was out of place and distracting. The entertainment was good, but it did not fit the environment. The other issue is that the vegetable stuffed mushrooms have meat in them (I had a vegetarian in my party, and this may offend some diners based on their religion). "

  • "We love this place. Apps- Rock shrimp, stuffed artichoke- both out of this world. The pasta (special) with all the shellfish had the most wonderful sauce and the rack of lamb was prepared to perfection. Don't forget the homemade desserts, you cant get them anyplace else!!! "

  • "Been here many times and have tried most items on the menu along with many of the specials that they offer. It is by far the best Italian restaurant around, and there are many in the area."

  • "I went here w/ my boyfriend Fri. night using a Groupon. We were greeted right away & were sat down immediately. Our waitress was very attentive which is always a plus. She started w/ the specials of day which I highly recommend typing out & handing it to the customers just because there were so many that by the time she got to the fish special I forgot what the other ones were. We started w/ the hot pepper, sausage and potato special which was delicious. My boyfriend got the pasta special with clams, scallops, mussels, and shrimp in a spicy marinara sauce. He loved it! I got the Meat Tortellini Carbonara. DELICIOUS. The only complaint I have is SOME of the pasta was overcooked. I would definitely recommend Castalia 997. "

  • "If you are looking for something a little different, this is the place. Pesto Risotto with Cajun shrimp executed and presented beautifully, mixed seafood in the saffron sauce had my husband cleaning the plate with his bread and the appetizer of stuffed sweet pepper was the perfect start. As always, we really enjoyed our dining experience. I guess this is why we always go back."

  • "We have been here many times and always appreciate that the food is prepared to order and they honor any special requests we have. I have special dietary issues and always feel confident in ordering accordingly. They go out of their way to make me feel comfortable."

  • "It was my turn to pick the location so I choose my favorite Italian restaurant. My family had only heard about Castalia and they were extremely happy with everything. The menu was somewhat limited compared the their regular menu but there still were more than enough to choose from. It was a very relaxed and enjoyable afternoon and my family agreed we should come back for Mothers Day!!!"

  • "I wrote a review and apparently it never went through. This site is not effecient, just like the restaurant. Meals were not described and nothing was said about what was included with the meal.. It was a guessing game, I guess set up to make the diner spend more money! We were told if you do not order a salad you will get a house salad? Ridiculous...never told we can have pasta in lieu of the potatoes, I guess they want you to order a separate side dish? Tired to being scammed...enough restaurants around that are up front with the diner without playing guessing games. Food was OK, but bad taste left due to poor administration of the menu."

  • "We went to see Lou Pallo entertain which is always a treat. We had no idea how good the food was going to be and were more than satisfied with our meals. My lamb chops were out of this world as was my friends scallops dish. The stuffed artichoke was the best I have ever had. We will definitely return even without the music."

  • "We enjoyed everything from start to finish. Its the entire package, the food is amazing, the service just the right amount of friendliness and attention and the setting, while not fancy is very warm and comfortable."

  • "There will never be a time where you'll have a bad meal, or a bad time at Castalia. The service and friendly atmosphere are a welcomed experience and of course the food is always, always outstanding. Top off the dinner with Laura's home made deserts {especially the carrot cake!} and the evening is complete. Personally we like to go to the bar after dinner and enjoy everyone's company in this friendly, family atmosphere."

  • "This was our first time here and would definitely go back. Prices were reasonable for a valentine's day romantic dinner for 2. The food was awesome. Had the specialty drink of the night (I asked to go light on vodka), it was perfect. The service was friendly from the second we walked in until the time we left. I believe it was the owner or manager that came over to check on us also so that makes a difference. The desserts were delicious. Space is tight but we still felt like we had privacy even though almost every table was occupied. We will definitely eat here again."

  • "Great find tucked away in a strip mall. Perfect spot for a date night or out with a group. Best red sauce.....generous portions and professional service. Live entertainment is enjoyable because it is not too loud and doesn't overpower the ability to converse. Owners and staff take pride in what they do."

  • "The beet and goat cheese salad was so beautifully prepared and taste as good as it looks. My friend was in the mood for steak and was extremely happy with his choice. I had pasta with clam sauce. I asked for extra sauce which they gladly provided. And the homemade desserts are an added special touch. Great dinner. Prices are very reasonable and portions are generous. Service is professional and attentive without making you feel uncomfortable."

  • "Took my mother on a Thursday night. We had a Groupon, which we put towards the dinner. We had an eggplant rollatine appetizer, which was great. Wished it were offered as an entree. My Mom had the salmon with dijon mustard and I had the veal parm. The food was outstanding and the portion sizes very good. Service was very good with the owner, host, and wait staff checking on us numerous times. Will be back."

  • "A good solid restaurant but dinner for two with a single appetizer and no drinks or desserts cost $85. That's too much money for this place. As noted, it's a decent place to eat but $85 is what I'd expect to pay at Ruth's Chris or something, not a strip mall Italian restaurant."
