A word from Cassis American Brasserie
Cassis American Brasserie brings to downtown St. Petersburg a concept of “Continental Comfort Cuisine” in the tradition of European Brasseries, yet with the relaxed flair of American eateries and a feeling of “always been there”.

Zinc top bar, dark mahogany wood, oversized framed mirrors, hand-painted three tone cement floor tiles, chocolate brown leather banquettes and booths; Cassis offers casual eating in a comfortable environment.

The dining room opens onto an outdoor terrace displaying a bistro area in the tradition of Parisian style cafes and a dining section in the South Beach style with colorful offset umbrellas.

Open seven days a week for lunch, and dinner, week-end brunch and throughout the day for light fares, coffee, home-made ice cream and desserts, Cassis American Brasserie is an ideal destination for quick bites or leisurely meals.

What a disappointment this turned out to be after driving all the way from Sarasota on recommendation of someone who thought the place was "Neat and nicely located". A waiter that that looks like he was doing us a favor for attending to our needs, the food was overpriced, especially the fish with the potatoes cold and the and other vegetable so small it looked like it was served on a tea spoon. Oh yes, the fish was way overcooked. The meat was dry and placing my stale over crushed pees did not add to the image I envisioned , certainly did not look gourmet. Very disappointing dinner event

We enjoyed sidewalk dining, the food and the dog-friendly atmosphere as usual, but the waiter never bothered explaining any specials (which he did at other tables) and he didn't interact with us at all. He took unobtrusive to a new level. This is our third similar experience so we probably won't return except to visit the bakery which is excellent.

I did a quick search for a brunch place for my family and friends who had flown to town to see the a play at the American Theater Company. Cassis fit the bill, as it was nearby and had a brunch menu (a lot of the restaurants I found in my quick search didn't). We were pleasantly surprised to discover outdoor seating, as it was a lovely day -- that was very nice. However, the waiter was a bit snippy, and the kitchen wasn't accommodating. We weren't allowed to change the type of cheese in an omelet. We weren't allowed to request a veggie instead of cheese. The potatoes were pre-made with butter, and couldn't be made without dairy. And there were no non-dairy milk options for coffee (any decent restaurant offers soy these days.) Won't go back.

I love the outdoor seating, with the lights and view of the park. It is very romantic! The food is amazing and there are many delicious drink options. I loved the celery soup and the red sangria was great. We had the brie appetizer and it was delicious. Great evening!

There was a great Wyeth-Nureyev event on in St. Pete and we had reservations for a quick dinner in between the art exhibit at MOFA and theater at American Stage. So this really turned out to be a shortstop out on a very enjoyable evening. We ordered burgers- and gourmet they were! Seated inside we were quite dazzled by the upscale elegance of the place- with myriads of gleaming globe lamps lighting up the ceiling. The location is on scenic Beach Drive with amazing waterfront park views vibrantly alive with pedestrians and artsy folk. The service was very friendly- catering well to our rush orders -which we enjoyed so - the fries and gruyere cheese were good too!

We happened upon breakfast at Cassis last time we stayed in St Pete, only because we missed the hotel breakfast. This time, breakfast at Cassis was top of the list. Love their menu, and everything was excellent. Definitely a favorite of ours. The basket of pastries is great; and yogurt and granola doesn't sound that great, and isn't normally what I have for breakfast, but I had it last time and it was so yummy I did again -- the coulis and fresh fruit made it. Great coffee, great eggs and bacon, great service. Thanks Cassis! A wonderful start to a beautiful fall day in St Pete.

"Cassis" suggests, in wine, a sweet blackcurrant note -our experience was the antithesis. This was our 3rd visit in 2 years; the menu and food have devolved each time. What was once beautiful seared ahi is now a lump of overdressed tuna with a pile of guacamole; fish tacos were dry (no sauce), no slaw. For $15 you get fish in a tortilla with a little mango on top. Kobe sliders ($15) were dry & flavorless (previously frozen)and the micro sprouts were unnecessary and distracting. But worst of all was the blast-oven temperature inside - at least there was a breeze outside although they struggled for 20 minutes with a fan out there. Service was SLOW but our server was nice - just overworked. The Sazerac was the high point - perfect.

Took friends to Cassis for the first time, we've been here before with good food and good service, and we were all disappointed with the service and the food this time. They weren't equipped with staff to handle the volume of business they had. One of my friends had a very fatty price of meat that wasn't fit to serve. She asked for a manager and the manager wasn't professional at all and doubted her comment and was pretty rude. Ultimately taken off the bill. The service was spread too thin and probably did the best he could. Several requests for drink refills went unanswered. Bad night, bad food, bad service and disappointed for the friends we took there based on a better past experience. Won't be back.

When Cassis was first open, it was very good! Then the service and quality of food went down substantially! So we quit dining there. When I tried to make a reservation in some of the other restaurants in downtown st. Petersburg Saturday night, there was none available except for Cassis. So we decided to give it one more try. Big mistake! The waiter could not have cared less about our table and was not personable at all. The lobster special was the worst lobster I've ever eaten. My friend had it also. Not good! My husband had the croque madame which was soggy and tasteless. The others said their food was fine but no one wanted to make a big deal of it since this was a celebration. They have lost us as customers forever!

This restaurant under delivered on food and service. The waiter recommended a fish special which was absolutely awful. It had an overly fishy taste, as if it was old, and no detectable seasonings. The sides it was served with were mushy, colorless, and unappetizing. I explained to the waiter my disappointment and, instead of taking it away, he left it there and sent the manager over for me to explain all over again. They brought me a replacement dish but were not very apologetic, offered us nothing as a token, and brought the check hastily after that. I thought the menu was way overpriced and, when we ordered a carafe of wine, it appeared to be closer to a half carafe that was served. The bread, however, was divine.

Whenever my husband meet a friend in St. Pete for dinner, we choose Cassis. The food never fails to be outstanding and the drinks are worth every penny. Our server, Frank, was new to the job, but you would never know it. Great personality without being inrusive and really knew his menu. I had the grilled chicken caprese, and my mouth starts watering just thinking about that sauce. Delizioso!

Our server was EXCELLENT! Very knowledgeable, helpful, and attentive. The tuna tar tar app was good, but I liked the old version better where it was served with a spicy chili sauce versus the new way with a habanero pepper on the side. The guacamole was excellent and the flatbread my wife ordered was outstanding. The lobster special was disappointing. $28 for a "lobster stuffed with crab meat" that was small (1 lb), overcooked, chewy and tasteless and we had to ask for drawn butter. The crab was mostly bread stuffing. We ordered the Cassis Sav Blanc and it was good for a house wine. When we got the $200+ bill, they charged us $1 for the butter and $1.50 for extra pita chips.

We made reservations for Father's Day brunch which I expected would be busy. It was and we weren't expecting quick service, but instead it was non-existent. It took about 15 mins for the server to acknowledge us and then another 20 mins after that to get our drinks. The food is always quite good at Cassis if you can find a way to tolerate the service. The service was so slow that we had to feed the two hour meter again for parking.

Apparently in an attempt to attract the young singles to the bar, the owner filled the restaurant with sand and bunches of blow-up beach balls, rafts, etc. then to add to the ambiance, they were cranking up the volume on rap music. When I booked a table through Open Table, nothing warned me that it was Beach Week in the restaurant. Strange event for a restaurant of the caliber of Cassis on a weekend night.
