  • Great food...but extra $ for lavash

One server for the whole restaurant made our dinner flow rather poorly, but the food was top notch, as always. Food is always great! Don't miss the kabobs--they're all good, but the chicken breast, Barg, and cornish hen are particularly noteworthy.

This restaurant is very consistant with their good food but also very consistant with not so good service. It is what it is. We've got used to it . It's best for carry out so you don't have to worry about a slow service, dirty plates left in front of you even as your next entree arrives! Can not make any simple drinks either. Again, food is pretty good. Just don't expect too much on the service.

My 9-year-old son wanted to try something different for his birthday supper. Caspian Bistro's Persian-flavored menu was fun and different. Three of us shared the appetizer combo and kabob platter for two. We had plenty of food a d brought a box home. The fresh hummus was amazing and the open-flame grilled vegetables and meats wonderful. We were there early on a weekday so service was very quick and personable. We plan to return on a weekend for a more lively at atmosphere. We'd love to see the weekend belly dancing!

Sorry to say we were not impressed. We had high hopes and the food and service let us down. The lamb shank tasted gamey and stale and the huge portion of dry rice that was over ladden with dill was actually gross. The rack of lamb was supposed to be fire grilled and seemed more like it had been stewed and over sauced. Even though the place was not crowded, there waiter was not attentave to our need for more water until the end of the dinner when we asked for the check. We would not send our friends here.

  • My dinner at Caspian
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 10/5/2012
Well. I went to Caspian beacuse they serve my native dishes. So, my expectation is high when I eat at any Middle Eastern restaurants. I ordered the Combination Koobeh Kabab. The chicken kabab was not cooked very well and the beef kabab was a kind of dry. Again, my expectation is high. I am sure that alot people go there and enjoy the food and the music which they have on weekends.

Best Persian food in area. This is closest to homemade in KC. Kabob very good. Gormeh Sabzi (don't be afraid). At night, fun, lights dim enough to have a personal intimate dinner in booth the same time a group can have fun in center seating. Weekend belly dancer fun as well. Dolmeh great as well as the homemade pastries.

I visited this restaurant at 5:30pm and it was quiet...just before the dining rush. There was no one to greet me at the door. In fact, I had to go into the dining area in order to be seen by the wait staff. The service provided by the wait staff was pretty good overall, however the food was very non-descript. I ordered the platter for two and the only flavor that I experienced was the char on the grilled vegetables. I am not likely to visit again.

When we arrived, we asked for a table and the host tried to sit us at a booth. The server arrived and placed a plate of garnish on the table. As we had not been there before, we asked what this was for and he simply replied for your meal. I had the Lamb Shank and it was very bland. So, all in all it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good.

Nothing jumped out with that WOW factor. I did like the fact that their salads were made with field greens. They had a very different baclava (their homemade)that I enjoyed very much. Otherwise, a lot of white rice and meat. They did have some vegetarian options which I wish I would have tried.

We have dined here a few times in the past and have always had an excellent experience. The food is outstanding, service and atmosphere also very good. We had the hummus for an appetizer and it just might be the best in the city. My only complaint would be it come with more pita. I will definitely return to Caspian and highly recommend others give it a try.

  • The service at Caspian Bistro
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011
    Dined on 2/24/2012
The service at Caspian Bistro outshined the food (the only reason there's 3 stars instead of 1), the servers were very nice and our drinks were never empty. We had a veggie kabob, a ground beef kabob, and a filet kabob all with rice. The veggie kabob was bland as was the rice. The ground beef and filet kabob's tasted like they were heated up in the microwave. The seasonings on the meat kabobs would have been fine if the meat wasn't so dried out and tough. The hummus however was good and so was the pita bread. The food was way overpriced for the quality of it.

The appettizer platter was great and there was plenty to share for two to four people. We wanted to try a lot of things so we split an entree, which was plentiful, so that we would have room for dessert. We had the Persian ice cream. It was delicious and had a flavor similar to rose water. Our waiter was not Middle Eastern, and was not as well versed about the selections as we had hoped.

The food was decent, although I've never seen food served with that much rice before. I love saffron rice, but I'm not sure 2-3 cups worth is necessary or warranted. The meat was well-prepared and tasty, but there just wasn't much to the meal. It was just meat and rice. I think they could do well with adding some sort of sides to the entrees. And honestly for the price, I feel like I can get better Mediterranean food elsewhere. I think we either had a new server or one that was stressed out. There weren't that many customers in the place, and there were 2 or 3 servers, but the poor guy kept forgetting stuff and was always in a complete rush. I think it probably took 10 minutes just to get a glass of wine after we ordered it.

Outstanding Persian food. Recommend to anyone who enjoys experiencing ethnic foods. Family-friendly, for the most part. They do have a belly dancer (which we weren't aware of) on Friday night from 8:00 to 8:30. She was very friendly but not very modestly dressed. Might be a little uncomfortable if you're with a spouse or young family. Otherwise, it was a delicious and delightful dining experience.

We dine at Caspian about 4 times each year. I always have the lamb which is always prepared to my liking. Their hummus is freshly made and very tasty. We've never been dissatisfied with the service. Caspian seems to be having more ecoupons which makes it even more attractive from a $$$ perspective. If you've never been, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
