A word from Cashion's Eat Place
When New York Times writer Jan Benzel described the ambiance at Cashion’s Eat Place in 1997 as “funky-elegant,” she was right on the money. That combination, a just-right mixture of laid-back neighborhood conviviality and serious (and seriously good) food, has defined Cashion’s since it opened in 1995. Even now, over a decade after it first welcomed diners, the restaurant remains true to its roots, serving interesting and fresh food in a relaxed way. For the past 18 years, Cashion’s Eat Place has combined refinement and relaxation better than anyone else.

We are longtime neighborhood customers. Cashion's has changed for the worse - the new menu features essentially Tapas size dishes, without making this clear on the menu. We left hungry, despite ordering additional dishes, cheese and dessert. The quality of the dishes has also declined, as has the variety. For an 'eat place' a disappointing direction.

Got to go here with a friend as a birthday gift. The food selection was excellent and they had a wide variety of dishes to choose from. Plates are priced reasonably and it was a great experience to go and order a couple of plates, share them, and then order more.

We had been to Cashion's several years ago and thought it was good but overpriced. They have now switched to a small plates format with more reasonable prices, so we thought we would give it a try. We went late on a Friday night. The food was very good, but the service was incredibly slow. Took about 30 minutes to get the first two plates and over an hour to get everything else. When we commented to the server about the slow service, all she could say was the kitchen had been backed up. No real apology and no sign of any efforts on her part to speed things up. Plus, the place was not full so its hard to see how the kitchen could be so slow. I don't think we'll go back.

I remember I went to Cashion's a few years back and the food was great. Now it is not so. Everything was ok. Not great. So many other places in DC to go to for better food. The service was slow but that's probrably because the place was full on a warm summer night.

I have been going to Cashion's off and on for several years. Recently returned and learned of the new menu. Have now tried it twice. The entrees are deconstructed so you order proteins and then sides. I Iove this new concept since I felt the entrees courses used to be too big. Now you can easily have an appetizer, protein and side without feeling full. Highly recommend the Bison Tartar to start. The crabcakes and bison meatballs are great. For sides have really enjoyed both the roasted carrots and feta/tomato/watermelon salad. Dessert is also lovely, try the cherries with frozen creme fraiche. Service has been exceptional. And these amazing August days in DC make outdoor seating a must.

I have been in Cashion's neighborhood for over a decade and in the several times I have selected Cashion's as a special occasion restaurant, whether party of 2 or 10, it has never disappointed. This time I selected the grilled octopus for my entree and I would return for that alone! From the wine list to desserts, and specialty cocktails, as well as inventive selections for the foodiests of foodies, Cashion's is always at the top of my list. Pleasant and quiet as well as interesting with a lively bar scene, it's a can't miss!

Cashion Eat Place was a nice upscale restaurant in Adams Morgan. Pretty convenient to walk from the Woodley Park metro. The waitress was very pleasant although there was a lengthy wait for our meal. The beer selection was decent, however, I was only so-so on the food. The portions were super tiny and the goat was very difficult to eat. The flavors were good, but the goat was tough (I understand that goat can be tough and it's tricky, so I was willing to accept that.) The hard part was eating it which didn't really work with a fork or with my hands. My family really enjoyed the crab cakes (really tiny, but we forewarned by the waitress), the duck and milanese pork (my 8 year olds thought both these dishes were magnificent and I agreed.

The menu is divided into small and large plates (apéros and entrées). Everything we had was excellent and, when combining small and large plates, well priced give the quality. The wine list, however, included only relatively pricey wines, which made the entire experience, well, rather pricey.

Visited this place for Sunday brunch with friends. The Adams Morgan location gave it a lively vibe. The day was gorgeous so sitting outside was wonderfully relaxing (and entertaining watching the world walk by). I loved that the menu is fresh, local, and changes daily, but this also means they may run out of what you may be craving. A guest in my party ordered the bison burger well done and received a bison burger that was bleeding (I think it had a pulse). No problem, it was fixed right away. All other orders were prepared as ordered and tasted good enough. I'm glad we checked this place out. My friends and I are looking forward to trying other Brunch spots in the area.

I really enjoyed the concept of Cashion's Eat Place - in that most of the items offered fit in between small plates and a full entrée. I liked that you could combine a bunch of different things to either share with the table, or if you didn't want to share, you could just put together an entrée yourself. It was the first time I felt like I had a lot of control over the menu- so to speak. Since I was on a date, we shared everything, and everything was delicious, but particularly the goat dish. All in all, a lovely evening!

I am a huge Cashion's Fan and I'm not sure if I can even properly articulate everything that's wonderful about it. I live in the neighborhood, so to me it has an upscale, neighborhood-gathering-place feel. I've probably been there a dozen times, and every meal I've had there has been excellent--the new menu is no exception. The service is outstanding--the servers are very well informed, and my water glass was never empty, which is uber important to me, as I am the thirstiest person ever. Nice wine selection and comfy bar atmosphere--I've had a full meal or two there, and the service is equally good. I've eaten at a zillion restaurants in DC, but there is something special about Cashion's that makes it my all time fave.

The restaurant prides itself on being "inventive," which it certainly was. The menu was difficult to understand and the waitress seemed put off as we tried to navigate the unique options. The food was not worth all of the effort. Dry, chewy meat and the worst excuse for mashed potatoes I've ever had. I think people give it a good review just because they feel like they are supposed to like it.

While the new menu offered many choices, and almost all sounded interesting, nearly every appetizer, side, and entree was over-salted. Because of the excessive salt, the dishes lost their respective differences in taste. This detracted from the dining experience. We have been to this restaurant many times in the past and had not encountered this problem with the food. The acceptable noise level makes the restaurant a reasonable compromise between a "happening" place and a location where people can talk and be heard at the table. Our bottle of amarone was the highlight of the dinner.

is great. It gives even more opportunity for chef to create new dishes. This is one of the things I like most about Cashion's; there is tremendous variety in their offerings. Occasionally it means they miss the mark, but if you are a regular as I am, you realize that relatively rare miss is completely outweighed by the inventiveness and overall quality. Some reviewers comment that the food is salty and I will agree that generally the food could be less salted, but I like salt so not a problem for me. BTW, their hash for brunch is amazing.

Our group of three very much enjoyed our brunch—grilled cheese and shrimp and grits—until half way my portion, I found a rusty nut (the hardware kind) from my portion. As expected, I got a prompt and sincere apology, a new portion and the item off our check. While glad I didn't break a tooth, I still wonder how this rusty piece became part of my brunch item. I was really excited to try out Cashion's Eat Place, potentially finding a new favorite in the neighborhood. However, after this unsettling experience, I probably won't recommend the establishment although the food, service and ambience would deserve four stars without the nut experience.

Had the tasting menu which included wine pairings. During one of the courses the wine director began refilling my glass with a different wine than was already in it and jokingly apologized with a quip about making his own blend. I appreciated his wit; made me feel at ease. I did not appreciate, however, that he did not restore the contents of my glass with enough wine to enjoy the rest of my course, which was good but lackluster. One might have thought it would otherwise be a drool worthy experience though, considering the cost of the whole thing for two people and nothing additional: $187 plus a $40 tip. The neighborhood seems to like it, as it appeared the locals knew how to avoid getting ripped off by ordering entrees to share.

My husband and I were so excited to bring friends of ours to Cashions. I hadn't been there for about a 12 years but had good memories. Boy was I wrong! The service is beyond terrible. The waitress and other wait staff were surly and ignored us. The apps were meager as well. After we ordered our main courses -- it took well over an hour for them to arrive. Then the skate fish I had tasted like urine. This incredibly strong aroma hit my mouth as soon as I put it on my tongue and it was all I could do to get my napkin in front of my mouth to spit it out. I can honestly say I've never had that happen before with a $28.00 piece of fish. It was embarrasing for us to host our friends here. We will never return.

After hearing about this place I decided to take my wife there for a date night. They put us right by the door in this cubby hole where there was already a couple and we felt like we weren't even in the restaurant. For an app we had their seasoned pickles wich were ok, but $7 for one pickle cut in quarters was way too much. I had the bison sirloin which was good, small/medium portion size with a few onion rings and their special steak sauce, which I had a taste of but liked the flavor of the bison better than the sauce. My wife had the salmon and thought it was bland. Overall just a disappointing experience for a date night.

Excellent service and great outdoor dining. Have been here for brunch too and that was a great experience as well. My only gripe this time is that my main dish felt somewhat small. I ordered the duck and it was like two duck legs and a little bit of mash/veggies. It felt a bit small for the price point, like it should be an appetizer/starter instead of a main. I know in Bethesda at Mon Ami Gabi, they serve duck confit as an appetizer for about half the price and it's more filling than Cashion's. My dining companion's main dish however looked like a good portion size though.

I wanted to like Cashion's. The outdoor seating is lovely on a warm spring night. The menu looks promising. However, it doesn't fully deliver. An order of grilled ramps was a tiny pile of limp scallions with a random sauce - nothing inspiring. We ordered the scallops for $29 and the plate arrived with 4 small scallops and a tiny bit of garnish. More like an appetizer portion. My husband sent it back, but we were told that was the way the dish came - no way to garnish it more generously. The halibut main was much more generous with a lovely large piece of fish, but there was no fennel to be found on the plate. Just a small amount of puree under the fish.
