Diner Reviews
  • "The decor is very warm and inviting. You can look in on fresh pasta being made in large sheets while the staff buzz around. I was excited to try their pasta, as fresh pasta is hard to find where I'm from and they were very highly rated. My date and I both ordered a small plate, her the lamb ravioli and I the pasta with ragu. I thought both were done quite well, though I preferred the ravioli. We then ordered the braised pork ribs. I was disappointed in them. They look great, and the turnip gratin was stellar, but the ribs were too fatty and chewy as a result. On the plus side, the portions were huge and you could easily feed two people with them. My suggestion would be to stick to the pasta, avoid the rest."

  • "Having eaten at Spinasse many times in the past, I had my first disappointing experience. Service was terrible. No oil and vinegar to dip our bread, yet the table next to us received a bowl. Empty glasses when our mains were served, and neither our server nor the staff who brought our food seemed to care. Italian food without a glass of wine? Food was underwhleming. Lamb ravioli with no sauce, just oil and butter? At least do butter and sage. To make matters worse, the lamb was actually sausage which was not mentioned on the menu. Had it been slow cooked lamb ravioli with a simple butter and sage sauce that would have been amazing. Nettle risotto was good, but would have been better with wine. Giunduja desert was amazing."

  • "Gawd I LOVE this place. This was my forth meal here...and the food; as always, was fantastic. We decided we werein the mood for meat; so all of our pastas were meat based. The lamb raviloi was one of the best pastas I've ever had; the goat also very, very good."

  • "Everything about this place was amazing. Very interesting selection of food, but it was all delicious. The place has great character. Would highly recommend to anyone."

  • "Every course we had was excellent. We started with an antipasti sampler that included the most succulent veal I've ever tried, and 24 month aged prosciutto. You watch the bustling kitchen prepare everything as you wait for the food, and it is evident that the staff takes great care with each plating. The chef was in the kitchen during our entire meal, scurrying back and forth, tasting everything. Both my fiance and I agreed it was the best meal we've had in Seattle."

  • "particularly loved the kale, the salads, the nettle risotto, and of course the extraordinary tajarin with butter and sage!"

  • "Had friends visiting from out of town and wanted them to experience our great Seattle food scene. Spinasse was the perfect choice and we all had an incredible evening. Server very knowledgeable about the Italian wines and the food was incredible! The green garlic flan is not to be missed and my braised goat dish was hands down our favorite entree."

  • "The home made pasta is wonderful. We also had halibut which was nice. The desserts were nothing to write home about. Sesame ice cream tasted burned. But really, they have goat on the menu, and they should not push anchovies at the guests unsolicited. Both were big turn-offs for me."

  • "Great food in a relaxed setting; unpretentious atmosphere and good service"

  • "We loved our dinner at Spinasse. The antipasti was so different than the usual olives, meat and pickled vegetables. The home made pasta was wonderful and the sauces were perfectly matched to the entry."

  • "This was our second visit and everything was superb as it was on the first visit. The vitello tonnato and the parma ham appetizers were outstanding and of their pasta dishes, any of them, are equally good. Will eat there every time we visit Seattle."

  • "We had high expectations of Cascina Spinasse after reading the online reviews. We were particularly curious about the handmade pasta. Everything was exceptional - from the rabbit pate crostini served with our drinks, to the just-picked salads (arugula with radishes and hazelnuts was brilliant) and pasta. We ordered the hand-cut pasta and lamb ravioli to share, along with kale and cauliflower side dishes. The tangerine sorbet practically had me in tears; it was certainly made by angels! The service was friendly and knowledgeable. I could see that sitting at the bar would also be a good experience as you could view the kitchen action. We're out-of-towners who have put Cascina Spinasse on the top of our Seattle restaurant list."

  • "While the menu is somewhat limited, the food is outstanding. Have the pasta with Ragu Very crowded neighborhood restaurant, and attached bar which serves well prepared drinks. We walked in early, to an empty restaurant, and the hostess made us wait till our reserved time to be seated. Waitress was knowledgeable and directed us to a very good wine, which is necessary because the wine list is all Italian. Seating is somewhat cramped, and we felt like we had to whisper to have any privacy. No valet, again... Neighborhood restaurant, but truly outstanding food."

  • "First timers, arrived at 5:01pm and regulars were seated at the bar/counter and another party in the secluded window seat. The service and the food -- how to describe them -- excellent: the antipasto, trout and, for me, pasta with butter and sage. Satiated. The wine choice and the cocktail for my companion -- smooth. So fine. (And, one of us was gluten free, no worries.0"

  • "But a VERY limited menu. Diner beware that if they are featuring Rabbit and you're not a fan, you're down to a slight few entrees."

  • "After sitting for 30 minutes without even bread on the table, I decided to walk to the bar where all the wait staff were chatting. I said if they didn't mind, we would like something to eat. Things got better but not great. Some of the food was super tasty, other plates were average. We were disappointed since we had heard this one was special. PS The couple next to us (RIGHT NEXT, even though there were plenty of empty tables) were there to celebrate her birthday, ordered the expensive $125/person tasting menu as they sat down and 30 minutes later still hadn't been served a bite. AND the waiter spilled a whole glass of red wine on the table and one of our guests. Good that she had worn black."

  • "Great food and interesting flavors...we have ordered a few things not really knowing what we would receive. Have never been disappointed! Like that we are not rushed! Also like the fact a quick meal is doable as well."

  • "I hadn't been to Spinasse in 4 years, sheerly based on my last two experiences there (food was just OK). But our dinner the other night was outstanding! We ordered a variety of dishes (one of our party is vegetarian) and everything was amazing. Our server made excellent suggestions, including wine, and was attentive without being intrusive. It was one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time and I am THRILLED that we gave it another try! I can't wait to go back."

  • "Spinasse is amazing. Every element of it is spot-on from the food, to the service, to the decor and atmosphere. My experience two nights ago was excellent. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive, taking the reigns when we didn't want to decide, and letting us make decisions when we did. When we ordered a large amount of food because we wanted to try so much, she worked with the kitchen to adjust some portion sizes so we could try more without getting full halfway through. The food was totally outstanding, which is no surprise. For us, the standout dishes were the trotter ragu (on special), rabbit meatballs, and lamb ravioli, but our talking point for the whole week is the foie gras flan. Everything about this evening was special."

  • "No question, they know food here. We were disappointed in a few dished (skip the prawns to start...it's really just a plate of beans with 3 small prawns; and the tarjin with ragu was very, very dry...) but the tarjin with butter and sage and the trotter ragu was seriously incredible, best pasta we've had outside of Italy thus far. My only wish, that they would do a wider, toothier pasta with the butter and sage. Panna Cotta for desert was a must try."

  • "By far one of my favorite restaurants. The food is beyond good and the staff always friendly. I can't wait for my next visit!"

  • "We were lucky to grab a early-ish (20h15) reservation for Cantina Spinasse, quite hard considering my reservation style of "I'm hungry, what's available now). The stylish but laidback ambience of the room is a definite plus, but the highlight was the food. We ordered the 2 appettizers and 2 specials and all were delicious, showing great technique and flavor. We'll definitely return to Spinasse, as it's now in our top-5 list of seattle restaurants."

  • "If you like Italian this place is tops. Everything is carefully prepared and luscious. Service extraordinary. This was so good we returned the next night to try additional selections and reprise a couple that we had the first night. An absolute must in Seattle!"

  • "Did not live up to our expectations, at that price all courses should be edible Anatra alla ruche was inedible, the duck cooked to the point that it was tough, basically shoe leather, the Trota con bagnet vert also was over cooked. Gamberi e fagioli, poached and marinated wild prawns tasty, but only one prawn, We order the 125 tasting menu, The pasta was good, but for the price, the food was not up to expectations."

  • "The best meal I ate in Seattle. Terrific wines, astonishing pastas. Wonderful service."

  • "My friend recommended this place for the best home made pasta. We ordered both pasta on the menu and loved them both (it's great that they have smaller and larger sizes too so we were able to taste them both!). My favorite was their original butter/sage. Their ragu sauce was exquisite as well. Great wine list and appetizer menu. The shrimp plate was very nice but the waiter brought us a complimentary prosciutto plate since it was our very first visit to the restaurant. His excellent service made the already great experience with great food a more terrific one, we will definitely be back. Several reviews said that their dessert may be the weak point but the rice gelato I ordered with fig sauce was very delicious!"

  • "Their food is so delicious, but tajarin is definitely a specialty of this place. Also I love the athmospere. It's friendly and relaxing and cozy at the same time. Oh and let you see how they slice angel hair pasta.. by hand! This place is such a gem!"

  • "Is that it took us so long to come here! Food was delicious, creative, rustico. Service was flawless. Street can be a challenge but there's a big lot across the way from the restaurant. We will return!"

  • "This restaurant is a must go if you like outstanding hand made pasta, simple and charming atmosphere and very attentive and professional sservice. It is a small and very busy place and reservations are rneeded even on a week night. If it is just two of you, I would recommend to seat at the bar that has the best view of the kitchen and pasta makers, plus you can chat with the bartenders about food, wine and specials.."

  • "Hi Guys, Thank you for the amazing dinner to celebrate my wife BD. Amazing food. Great service. Nice location. I can only write great comments about this restaurant. After 5 years in town, I would definitely say Cascina Spinasse is my favorite restaurant in Seattle. My parents are Italian and I grew up surrounded by Italian food and wine, and this place made me feel home. Big Kudos Guys. Already planning my second visit."

  • "Spinasse was at the top of my list of restaurants to try in Seattle. We were fortunate to get a rezo for a late seating. Situated in the Capitol Hill area, Spinasse is a 15-20 mins stroll from the downtown Seattle core. We arrived at the resto early and the host was very welcoming and suggested we have a drink next door (Spinasse's sister-establishment) while they set our table. One Lillet Blanc later, our table was ready. There was a moderate selection of items on the menu, all worth considering. I ordered a small pasta and each bite was heavenly. My palate was introduced to what "real" pasta should taste like. Next time, I'd order a full plate, just for me!"

  • "I'm sure many people go here for the pasta, but I had the celery root soup and duck leg in prunes and these dishes were fantastic! My BF had the beet greens, pasta, and cauliflower side; he loved them all. The wine list was nice, too. I'm sure we'll return to Cascina Spinasse!"

  • "Enjoyed the food so much just couldn't wait to go back and take some friends. It is always a little nerve wracking to recommend a restaurat to others and not have it meet expectations. Worry not with Spanisse as everyone left having spent 3.5 hours of gastronomic delight. Look forward to trying their spring menu."

  • "Loved the food and the server was excellent - a few small inconsistencies: I asked for olives in my dry vodka martini, got a twist, but the server corrected quickly. There were 5 of us, so we ordered the "family" sizes - we ordered the special duck breast, received the duck leg, again corrected by our server and she let us keep the duck leg on the house. We also ordered the kale, but received the kohlrabi instead - we are very flexible so this did not have a negative impact on our experience, but it seemed out of character for a place that otherwise has great food and knowledgable/professional staff, sometimes these things happen."

  • "We celebrated a family birthday and the service was outstanding. All the courses tasted amazing, perhaps with the exception of the rabbit meatballs this time that were a bit dry this particular night. The butter sage pasta is still our personal favorite and the prosciutto was delicate and flavorful. We tried the kale with garlic and Meyer lemon as a new side and loved it. All the desserts were good and were large enough to share. It is good to see a restaurant that consistently maintains good quality."

  • "We loved the antipasto! It was great to share four appetizers. In particular we loved the beet salad. The hand cut egg pasta with butter and sage was one of the best bites of my life. Can't believe they cut the pasta by hand. Will be back every time I go to seattle."
