  • "Great meal with excellent service. The olive oil and sea salt olives were delicious and our cocktails were perfect- they even created a mocktail for our one pregnant guest. which she loved. The arugula salad was perfect, and a nice size to share as a starter. The short rib ravioli was perfect- not too rich- but very savory, and the veal meatballs with polenta was a nice appetizer that worked well as a meal. The cavatelli with sausage was also really flavorful. The highlight for us was dessert. We got 2 for the table to share- a chocolate stout cake with creme brulee ice cream, and a bread pudding. Both were wonderful- but we would have been fine with one... and the bread pudding was the clear favorite."

  • "We love this Big Burrito establishment. It starts with a well-stocked bar area, nicely lit and very comfortable. The indoor dining area is complimented by the (now-covered) outdoor seating area. Service was mostly attentive. The wine list is varied and reasonably prices. We started with two appetizers this time out, the Tuna Tartare and the Sheep's Milk Gnudi. The tuna was very clean, served with nicely grilled sourdough. The Gnudi had a nice truffle butter and tarragon flavored sauce. I had my all-time favorite salad, the Arugula. This masterpiece features homemade pancetta, crimini mushrooms, and goat cheese. We split the Ricotta Cavatelli Pasta, prepared thoughtfully with fennel sausage and spinach. Desserts are house created and fresh."

  • "I used to go to Casbah a couple of times per year. But my experience this past weekend has caused me to reconsider the frequency that I'll be going there. We were seated inside and the lighting was way too low. I appreciate a romantic setting as much as the next person, but when all the diners are using the lights on their cell phones to read the menu, you gotta figure the restaurant has the lights too low. I do like to see what I am eating! But the major concern was someone in the kitchen has a new salt and pepper grinder. The food was much too salty and peppery. In the past I've loved the flavors in the dishes, but all I tasted was salt and pepper...same for my dining companions in appetizers, salads & main courses. Unhappy."

Overcooked despite a request for Medium rare. Duck was excellent but not enough sauce to have any left after about half the entre was done."

  • "This is a great place to go for a business lunch. The lunch combo special gives you a choice of salad (I had the beet salad...mostly variations of beets and was wonderful!), 1/2 sandwich (I had crab cake, so you get this 1/2 size crab cake with wonderful dressing), and 1/2 pasta ( I can't recall the name...but it was a spinach pasta, with a creamy sauce that had a wonderful basil flavor). It's great that they do this so that when I go back for dinner I know what to order. But with everything tasting so good, it's difficult to choose just one thing!"

  • "I got the filet and I didn't care for the sauce. I have gotten they filet here many times and it was good. It also came with a cauliflower which I didn't like the preparation of. We also sat outside on the patio and it was much too loud. We were shouting across the table. The patio might be better for summer because they have hard metal seating which was cold and uncomfortable. They might consider putting in some dining chairs or cushions on the seats. If you go, request a seat inside, it is much more comfortable. It is quite over-priced @ $184 for two people. The one thing I will give it, is that the service is outstanding. The servers are nothing but professional, knowledgeable and friendly."

  • "It was mine and my fiance's first dining experience at Casbah. They were very amenable to splitting the salad and the entree for us both, as we never eat a full entree. They even modified a little of the beet salad for us , as per our request, as we requested goat cheese instead of the blue cheese, and they were happy to do that for us. The preparation and taste of our double-cut pork chop was superb. We ( well, my fiance) ordered the bread pudding and it was a pure delight. The 3 bites I had (I always just want a few bites ) was , also, a treat for my something-sweet-after-dinner need. We will definitely return and won't wait so long for another fantastic dining experience."

  • "Although the place was quite empty on a Friday night, the service was extremely slow...our waiter would disappear for long periods of time, I think he was working both the upstairs floor and downstairs floor. All in all, Casbah is consistently good and we enjoy going there...however, for the cost, the service should be impeccable. We paid almost 300$ for a group of 4, who are not big eaters. The wine is very mediocre by the glass, even the most expensive priced at 14$ a glass. We like sitting downstairs in the booth area. Upstairs the noise is terrible, you cannot carry on a conversation, unless you are in the covered outside area... It is a good restaurant for individuals who want a lovely night out with good food."

  • "I was distinctly irritated by the fact that we did not get a table in the patio even though multiple tables were available and appeared to remain available throughout the entire time we were there. Instead, we were put in a table in the middle of traffic of waiters and with a direct view of the kitchen. To me that was enough to tarnish the evening. The food might have been ok but we were already sufficiently turned off that it was hard to notice."

This week our meals were fantastic ( sea scallops, short rib ravoli to name 2), but the service was really great. They helped us to plan a last minute surprise for my mothers birthday. In addition to the staff helping with the surprise, they also accommodated our 6 year old."

  • "Great prix fixe menu with diverse options. There is the added perk of being able to choose more than just a mimosa or bloody mary with the prix fixe menu. Our group had a baby and the restaurant was extremely accommodating and kind with our needs. Would highly recommend for brunch but suggest making a reservation as they get very busy."

  • "My boyfriend and I came to Casbah the Saturday after Valentine's Day. I've heard many good things and have been wanting to try it out since I moved to Pittsburgh a few years ago! We decided to splurge for the special occassion... It certainly was a splurge! But it was delicious!! We both got the Valentine's Sampler menu which consisted of 4 course (1 being a dessert) all were fabulous! I did NOT feel cheated when we left Casbah! You can definitely tell the food was prepared with care and with skilled hands. From the presentation, to the taste- all was wonderful! I would definitely return for a special occassion, but not a place I can afford to indulge in regularly (as a graduate student.)"

  • "I recently went to Casbah on Saturday the 15th, to celebrate Valentines Day with my girlfriend. I made reservations, so our table was ready when we arrived to a busy restaurant. We have been to Casbah a number of times for dinner, but had never done their tasting menu. We were not disappointed, the service was excellent (Juan), the wine pairings were spot on, the courses were creative and excellent. I would highly recommend dining at Casbah whether for a non celebratory evening or for a special occasion, you will not be disappointed. The menu can be hit or miss but my experiences have been more hits than misses."

  • "The food was great, but at the prices paid, we would have preferred to NOT have total strangers seated 18" from us when there were many other tables open. There is no reason to stack people up like that when there were many other open tables in the room. We were that at 5pm to avoid this and it happened anyway. Very disappointed that we seem to be expected to tolerate this. Its the same at Soba."
