Diner Reviews
  • "Great wines, food and service! Menu selections are varied and suitable for all diners! Casbah is a true gem!"

  • "The service was fast and good. There was no reason to hurry. As the place filled up the noise level rose, but it never became intrusive. All in all it was a great dining episode."

  • "This is our second time to Casbah. The first time was amazing as was this time. Their food is always great and never a disappointment. The service this time was slightly slower which is why I gave it 4 stars. It was not a negative thing but it felt like every time we were in need of something we had to wait a little longer. I would go back in a heart beat and recommend it to everyone."

  • "Upon recommendation, we asked to be seated in the cellar, and we won't do that again. The cellar is nothing special, the first floor dining area is MUCH better. I'm use to pretty good service here and our waitress SUCKED! The food was fine, but not great. I've eaten dishes here before that were fantastic, I was hoping for that experience. We'll come back again because I know what this restaurant is capable of, and I know this was just a fluke."

  • "Bravo to the chef. This was our third "Corn and Tomato" event. Everything was superb. The scallops and halibut were perfect choices for a summer meal. The corn and tomatoes were definitely showcased. The polenta was amazing--almost like having a second dessert! Thank you!"

  • "We have been customers of Casbah for years because we know they provide quality food and service."
    Dined on 8/20/2014
  • "Creative dishes, attractively served in a sophisticated setting. Attentive service. The only drawback is the noise level, which becomes unbearable when the restaurant is busy. If you want a relaxing meal, try an "off" hour."

  • "This restaurant is consistently good. Our server was respective and attentive to the needs of my elderly parents."

  • "I love the Casbah normally, but I had never been to a special event. While you could still order from the regular menu, the prix fixe with the wine pairing was perfect. The chef put the flavors together perfectly! What a wonderful evening. All four of us were thrilled!"

  • "I've been to Casbah before this past Saturday and have had a relatively good experience. But this time, although the service was impeccable, the food left much to be desired at the price I paid. The appetizer was dry and the pita was burnt, yet it still made it's way to the table. They were kind enough to remake the dish, but it should've never been served that way. It was a fine dinner with a friend from out of town, but there are better Big Burrito restaurants and next time I'll venture across the street to Mad Mex."

  • "Went to casbah for my girlfriends birthday. Much better experience than the previous time. Sat in the patio area which is still romantic but more spacious than being jammed inside. I got the swordfish and crispy polenta which was amazing. My girlfriend got the halibut which was a bit over cooked but still good. Scallops for an appetizer and raspberry bread pudding for dessert which both tasted great. Our server was also much better than last time. Very respectful and provider great service"

  • "A friend and I had lunch here the other day. As always, the food was superlative, and this time, the consistently excellent service went above and beyond what I would expect. I ordered an appetizer, and a server (not the one who took our order) brought the wrong one. When I remarked on it, she immediately offered to replace it with my original order. But the one she brought was also something I had been thinking about, so I told her I was fine with it and not to worry. Our original server, Grant (I believe), heard about the mixup, came over to apologize, and sent me home with an order of my original request on the house! It was totally not necessary but very much appreciated!"

  • "Several years ago when Casbah opened it was ahead of the curve and perhaps the best restaurant in Pittsburgh. With all the new very good restaurants opening it's good to see that Casbah is holding its own. The pastas might seem expensive at around $30.00. However they have enough of expensive and quality ingredients to be worth it. I doubt they will ever take the Gnudi off the menu. It is truly one of the best apps in the country. Service is attentive but not intrusive."

  • "I came here with a friend for their birthday. Patricia (the waitress in training) and Grant our waiter were terrific. We both had quite a few questions on the menu and the wine list. I was impressed that both Patricia and Grant were able to describe the tastes and choices in great detail. The meal was paced well with appetizers, salad and main course moving steadily. The main courses were excellent. You can tell each plate is carefully created and presented. Casbah has always been a consistent winner for me. I highly recommend visiting."

  • "It was nice to find a place that would take reservations for three for Sunday brunch. Valet parking was a convenient touch in this urban location. The food was worth the somewhat lengthy wait time. Right about the time we were saying " Did they forget about us?", the food arrived. Hot and tasty!"

  • "Had an outstanding romantic date night dinner. The food was beyond excellent (we dine in NYC, Paris, London all the "top restaurants" for work). Love the 1/2 portions of pasta so we could try everything (rec by our waiter). prices are reasonable and our waiter was the best (very good, friendly, funny and super helpful). Highly recommend Casbah to anyone looking to have a delicious and satisfying dining experience."

  • "As always the food was excellent. I had the grilled octopus salad and the grilled swordfish as an entree. Both done perfectly. The wait staff were attentive without being intrusive. Love that they finally have valet parking. Trying to find parking on this street is virtually impossible. The only pay lot that existed is now part of a construction zone, so its not available. We have always loved this place and continue to go back. ."

  • "What a wonderful and relaxing lunch. Great wine and cocktail menu. Menu had many options . Crab cake and risotto more than I could have hoped. Lingered after with drinks and dessert. No wonder others rave about it here."

  • "I love Casbah - I go every year for my birthday and I'm never disappointed!"

  • "Our lunch was superb! The three of us had the pre-fixe and we all raved about our dishes and tasted each others because each of us thought our choice was amazing. We were all particularly impressed with the different sauces on each of the pastas we tried. The arugula salad was delish...with nice pieces of pancetta...and the soups are spot-on."

  • "Casbah is what one expects from Big Burrito: good food, slightly more expensive than one would like, but never a disappointment. Arugula salad is a must. The pork chop was delightfully succulent."

  • "My son flew in for the weekend to take me out to dinner and this is where we made reservations. It was our first time at the restaurant however, it will not be our last. We sat in the patio and the thunderstorms made it a bit noisy to converse, but overall it was a wonderful evening. Magnificent!"
    Dined on 8/2/2014
  • "and loved it thunderstorm and all! Food was excellent - best seared scallops I've ever had. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive. Also - he was kind enough to move us further away from the open area at the entrance when the thunderstorm kicked up. Wine flight was a great value - i had three excellent reds. My husband and I shared the bread pudding. We will be back!"

  • "Casbah continues to be a great place for food and service in the East End. Never disappoints. The tuna tartare is a winner. A favorite of many that you can tell from the level of liveliness from the patrons. On my list of go to restaurants for any occasion, from casual lunch or dinner to special occasion celebration."

  • "We came here to celebrate a birthday and were pleased with everything. Great service, tasty food, and a nice atmosphere. We particularly enjoyed the sheep's milk gnudi (a seasonal variation with corn purée), the berry bourbon and spoken word cocktails, the filet, the yogurt butter served with the bread basket, and the delicious s'mores dessert."

  • "Sat in the patio - love what they did here, it's an outdoor feel, but classy sheltered decor rather than a view of a parking lot or Highland Ave! Food was top notch with a friendly skilled server making great recommendations. Expansive drink menu and wine list. Seafood a highlight. One of the best restaurants in the city for sure. A bit pricey for an anyweekend, but would be the perfect choice for special occasions."

  • "There were so many choices that sounded wonderful. The choices we made were well prepared and delicious. We always enjoy Big Burrito restaurants but Casbah is at the top of our list now. Ironically friends were looking for a place to go the next night and we recommended Casbah and the had the same great experience."

  • "We always enjoy eating at Casbah. We know we will get a great meal regardless of when we go, what we order, or who is cooking that day. Their wait staff is knowledgeable and very professional. They take pride in working there. We were bummed that we didn't have room for dessert-they looked lovely!!"
    Dined on 7/22/2014
  • "First time dining there. Excellent food with good Mediterranean variety (fish, pasta, meat entrees). A bit pricey. The outdoor area was very warm the evening we were there and the ceiling fans did nothing to help. A bit uncomfortable with the heat. Appetizers were very good. I will have no problem returning."

  • "This is one of the best restaurants of our city. Constantly consistent with service, excellent food and wonderful employees. Even the valet is 'on the spot consistent' with their service. The salmon is fabulous as well as the lamb shanks this season. Loved the soft shell crabs too! And the wine by the glass selection is great! Bravo!"

  • "Met a granddaughter and partner for dinner. We were seated in the covered patio area. It's quite pleasant, but the chairs don't have cushions and become uncomfortable after a few minutes. Our waiter seemed rushed and the restaurant was busy, but not overwhelmed. The salads and appetizers were very good. Our granddaughter specifically asked for a well-done steak (she is pregnant) and it arrived medium rare. It was sent back to the kitchen, but a new one was cooked to order. Dessert of S'mores was tasty."

  • "I have been to Casbah several times for dinner and I have always enjoyed it. I went for brunch for the first time this past weekend and it was excellent. The food was delicious. The waiter was friendly and attentive. Also, I appreciated the accommodations made for my dairy allergy. I will definitely come back for brunch again!"

I would defintely recommend this place. We sat outside and once the sun went down the lighting was romantic!! Great night and wonderfull dinner"

  • "Casbah is one of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh. We eat here probably once a month. From the time you walk in the door until your last bite of dessert, everything is fantastic. The bartenders are quick to serve, the hostess staff is very friendly and the servers are very knowledgable of the menu. My husband's favorite meal is the pork chop….it is the very best!"
