Diner Reviews
  • "We came here to celebrate a birthday and were pleased with everything. Great service, tasty food, and a nice atmosphere. We particularly enjoyed the sheep's milk gnudi (a seasonal variation with corn purée), the berry bourbon and spoken word cocktails, the filet, the yogurt butter served with the bread basket, and the delicious s'mores dessert."

  • "Casbah is consistent in food and service. Always a great dining experience."

  • "Sat in the patio - love what they did here, it's an outdoor feel, but classy sheltered decor rather than a view of a parking lot or Highland Ave! Food was top notch with a friendly skilled server making great recommendations. Expansive drink menu and wine list. Seafood a highlight. One of the best restaurants in the city for sure. A bit pricey for an anyweekend, but would be the perfect choice for special occasions."

  • "We always enjoy eating at Casbah. We know we will get a great meal regardless of when we go, what we order, or who is cooking that day. Their wait staff is knowledgeable and very professional. They take pride in working there. We were bummed that we didn't have room for dessert-they looked lovely!!"

  • "First time dining there. Excellent food with good Mediterranean variety (fish, pasta, meat entrees). A bit pricey. The outdoor area was very warm the evening we were there and the ceiling fans did nothing to help. A bit uncomfortable with the heat. Appetizers were very good. I will have no problem returning."

  • "This is one of the best restaurants of our city. Constantly consistent with service, excellent food and wonderful employees. Even the valet is 'on the spot consistent' with their service. The salmon is fabulous as well as the lamb shanks this season. Loved the soft shell crabs too! And the wine by the glass selection is great! Bravo!"

  • "Met a granddaughter and partner for dinner. We were seated in the covered patio area. It's quite pleasant, but the chairs don't have cushions and become uncomfortable after a few minutes. Our waiter seemed rushed and the restaurant was busy, but not overwhelmed. The salads and appetizers were very good. Our granddaughter specifically asked for a well-done steak (she is pregnant) and it arrived medium rare. It was sent back to the kitchen, but a new one was cooked to order. Dessert of S'mores was tasty."

  • "I have been to Casbah several times for dinner and I have always enjoyed it. I went for brunch for the first time this past weekend and it was excellent. The food was delicious. The waiter was friendly and attentive. Also, I appreciated the accommodations made for my dairy allergy. I will definitely come back for brunch again!"

  • "Casbah is one of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh. We eat here probably once a month. From the time you walk in the door until your last bite of dessert, everything is fantastic. The bartenders are quick to serve, the hostess staff is very friendly and the servers are very knowledgable of the menu. My husband's favorite meal is the pork chop….it is the very best!"

  • "Always a pleasure…great atmosphere, great service, great menu, great drinks, great desserts, great selection of wine. Did I mention great?"

  • "Chef produced a great meal. Grilled octopus salad was the best I've had, Alaskan halibut was terrific: a little salt &pepper, quick hot pan sear, cover and finish in oven. Bread pudding ingredients were very good but it was dry, need to use a deep ramekin. Fairly priced wine and cocktails. Jaime did a friendly and efficient serving job. I would return if ever in town again."

  • "One of my top 5 places to go for a special brunch. Good for visitors to town and family. Menu works for kids and adults."

  • "The food was excellent! We got the pork chop and the lamb shank, both of which were cooked perfectly. Service was great as well. Dinner was not rushed at all. We asked to sit inside because it was so hot outside and there was no air movement on the patio. If the heat bothers you, I would recommend sitting inside."

  • "The bread, spreads, tuna tartare, pork, risotto with peas, braised kale were all noteworthy."

  • "Great choice--and repeat visit--for a monthly dinner with my sister. Soft Crab small plate was great, and a treat. We also enjoyed wine flights and overall great and interesting food. The service is also outstanding. Never rushed us, thoughtful and attentive."

  • "Positives: lots of seating, valet parking, and great food for on a rare special occasion Negatives: too for the quantity was a little more. My girlfriend ordered the 4 tasty short rib raviolis. My cioppino-very good with an amazing sauce, too skimpy. They do serve fresh sourdough bread to start with a salted butter and a homemade yogurt/butter, which was very good. As for the drinks, happy hour M-F 5-7…in the bar area. I always find this ridiculous when a restaurant does! The patio is nice, warm and the traffic a little noisy. OpenTable comment stated that it was my girlfriend's birthday, but I guess they either don't do anything special for birthdays or they missed the comment. Lastly, not a huge deal, but service could be more friendly."

  • "I really wanted to love this place, but my wife and I left feeling we had a date with two other tables. The food was great and the service was great! The tables were very closely placed to each other. I would highly recommend the outdoor seating as things are more spread out, but if you want to dine inside, be ready to feel that you need to hold onto your wine glasses any time a waiter/waitress tries to walk between the tables. Also get ready for you personal bubble to be popped. Again, the food and service were great. It just was not a romantic atmosphere."

  • "The menu always has new and unusual items along with some old stand-byes like the Oriechetti. I always have to force my self to get get something else. The chef does a nice job of combining a variety of colors, textures, and flavors. The food presentation is always worthy of a photograph. Our server, Grant, was pleasant, efficient, and personable. Casbah is our go to for special occasions! Go! Savor every moment!"

  • "My wife and our guest had dinner at the Casbah and were not disappointed in the food or service. I had the Halibut which was prepared to perfection. My wife had the sword fish and our guest at the grilled pork-chop all of which were superbly prepared. When we return to Pittsburgh, we will definitely go back and it was on outstanding dining experience."

  • "We've been here 3 times over this past year & it's becoming one of our all time favorites. Their brunch is wonderful, their special tomato & corn festival dinner with wine pairings was great & dinner is great, too. Love the atmosphere & our wait staff have been very good each time. Love it!"

  • "Fiance and I were looking for a nice place that we had never been to for date night. I've heard about Casbah before and we decided to check it out. The food and service were great. I thought the menu had typical fare but with a unique twist. I would definitely come back."

  • "We often choose the Casbah for special occasions. This time lived up to our high expectations and more. They had a "pasta festival" going on, with many small-plate portions of interesting pasta dishes. We tried three and shared them -- all were delicious. We also had our favorite calamari appetizer and two excellent desserts: a trio of sorbets and our favorite chocolate-raspberry bread pudding. It was crowded that night, but service was excellent. Overall, a great experience for my wife's birthday."

  • "We celebrated our wedding anniversary with our two young daughters at Casbah, and had a very nice time. Excellent food, very accommodating servers who helped select items that our 8 and 9-year olds enjoyed (particularly dug into the bread/cheese/olive appetizers). Our only reservation is the high prices, even given the great quality they seem over the top. But for a special occasion it was a fun time sharing a fine meal with the family."

  • "This restaurant has been the best restaurant in Pittsburgh since I arrived in 1996. It has always been consistently outstanding. It is my best friend's favorite place so my partner and I treated him to his birthday dinner. He was not disappointed. Thanks! "

  • "Food always reliable and consistent. Had a bit of trouble with our waiter, Derek. Nice enough, etc. but I presented him with a mailer giving $30 off (a birthday promotion that I always try to take advantage of). Bill came and no deduction.....he took it back and corrected it - so we thought...When we got home we realized that we were still shortchanged by $5. Didn't make a big deal of it but I was embarrassed as myd ate was picking up the bill! Not a big deal but still created an uncomfortable conversation later....."
