A word from Casale
Casale, formerly the Newtown Grill, brings a new concept to Newtown Square this fall.
Meaning “farmhouse” in Italian, Casale specializes in authentic Italian cuisine-handmade pastas, fresh fish and majestic steaks, and the best vibrant bar in Delaware county.
At Casale, the crusty Italian bread is made on the premises daily. The certified Angus beef steaks are hand cut and aged by our chefs. And the freshest fishes, like Dover Sole and Branzino, are offered daily-filleted table side. Local and fresh ingredients are used to enhance the recipes of the Roman and Neapolitan culinary tradition like the Stracciatella Soup, which uses organic spinach sourced from Lancaster County and the Red Snapper in Acqua Pazza, which celebrates the freshest vegetables from Berkshire Farm.

Had a big party in the unheated wine cellar. One of the fireplaces is broken, and was replaced with a tiny space heater on a chair. some entrees were great, others not so much.It is apparent that this place needs an overhaul, but probably doesn't have the money to do it, so is hanging on as best it can. Unfortunately, it is only delaying the inevitable. I wish it well.

We decided to try this place since the changeover to Casale. Bad choice on our part. The only positive things were the bread and the spinach on my salmon dish. First of all the service was terrible. It took forever to get a server to wait on us or to even fill our water glasses. Then we realized the prices were much higher than before and it certainly wasn't due to the quality of the food. They priced this like a gourmet meal but it was no where near that. I ordered the salmon which was supposed to have some sort of a glaze on it. It was very blah and when we asked the waitress about it she said oh no we do it with just olive oil. This is not what was on the menu. In addition they had no shrimp. Imagine an Italian restaurant with seafood

I was disappointed in the service. In a restaurant business, it should not take 30 minutes for bread, 40 minutes for an appetizer, and 60 minutes for your entree to be served to you. That's a disgrace.

Upon entering there was no one in the lobby to greet you. The coat check was not open. Upon ordering they had no pineapple juice to make a drink I ordered and then asked about the wine list to order a glass of wine of which I was told there was no wine list to pick from and the server was not knowledgeable about wines at all. Upon ordering the second drink they were unable to make another Bloody Mary because they ran out of something for that drink also. The salad was noted to have glazed walnuts in it and there were no glazed walnuts. The entree of veal parm was ordered and he didn't think they had any left but then we got it and I believe it was chicken.no ground pepper or grated cheese avail. Paid bill and would never come back.

Should have stayed home and eaten a PB&J. Servers and bus boys were running around non stop. Very noisy. Waited 20 minutes for our waiter to finally greet us at our table. He forgot to put in our appetizer so our meals had to be re-made. We didn't get our appetizer until we had been sitting there for 50 minutes. We asked to have it wrapped up since we only ate half and they had no boxes so he said it was going to be in a "weird" container (he never even gave it us). Our food finally came out 1hr 40 minutes after we sat down. People came in 40 minutes after us and were finished eating their entire meal before we got our entrees. Nobody seemed to know what was going on there. It was a complete disaster. THE WORST DINING EXPERIENCE EVER.

We went to celebrate Valentines day a day early. We have been going to Alberto's for over 15 year. It has always been such a special place for my husband and I. We had our boys communion parties there, rehearsal dinner, and other events. I was so excited to go as we haven't been there in a few years. Probably a little too excited. We get there and it was dead only maybe 3 other tables had guests. The place looked the same but as we sat down we soon realized how different it was.I ordered a bay breeze and they were out of juice for it so I asked for stoly orange and sprite and they didn't have the stoly. So I got a soda. Then we begin to order and the very nice waitress points out were out of veal parm, ny strip, the other steak.

We were there early, around 5:30. The place was fairly empty. We were the only people actually seated at the bar but there were people from a party in one of the rooms coming in the bar to get their drinks. It took a little while before the only bartender came to get our drink order. Once we were seated, the dining area was quiet as we were one of about 4 tables. Dinner service took quite a while. Food was good. It was a long evening and we agreed that we will not be going back.

This was my first visit to this retaurant since it changed management. The food was good, not great but good, with a good variety of dishes. The service was quite good, which is a nice change. We were not provided with a wine list, which was strange. The bar looked quite busy as we left. Restaurant is large to accommodate groups or events.

Sorry to say it was very disappointing from the get go. I ordered a glass of sauvignon blanc that was not. When i asked the waiter what kind of wine it was he got defensive and said"we always give the house wine unless you ask for something else". My point was that it was the wrong VARIETY not the wrong brand. My husband had a steak that was absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. Only downside to his meal was that the menu led him to believe that he would get a salad OR vegetable with his meal, so he ordered a side of spinach. When the plate came, there was spinach on the plate as well as a separate side. For $4.00. Really? The waiter didn't think to ask if that was really what he wanted? My gnocchi was passable.

I am hoping our experience was just new ownership working out the kinks because Casale is a mile from our house and I would like to add this to our list of places to go but they really need to step up their game. It was a Thursday night and the restaurant was not crowded yet they were out of filet and gnocchi - an Italian Steakhouse out of filet and gnocchi? On a Thursday night, early in the evening? Really? It took us at least 20 minutes or more to get bread and drinks for the table - just soda and they were out of the ingredients for the kids' Shirley Temples. It took over an hour to actually get our meals and while the Rib Eye was excellent and good size the creamed spinach portion amounted to two table spoons in a crucible.

I hate to give bad reviews but Casale leaves a lot to be desired. This facility has changed hands a number of times in the last 10 or so years and never for the better. The original restaurant in this location (The Newtown Squire) was great and one of the most popular in the area for years. It is my understanding that it is currently operated by another member of the original family who needs to do a lot more tweeking including window washing. One plus - my Salmon was excellent.

When we got there we decided to have a drink at the bar,,,I asked for a split of champagne,,,they didn't have , then I asked for a martini menu, they didn't have, so I ordered a martini that I was familiar with and I have to say,it was very good. Dinner, the Chicken Marsala I ordered was 2 small pieces of overcooked chicken, and it didn't come with anything else on the plate. I know they are trying to re-invent themselves, but I won't be running right back there.

There are several good Italian restaurants in the immediate area, along West Chester Pike, and Casale cannot compete with these with their present chef and kitchen management. Pasta was overcooked, veal tough, service sloppy. Menu needs a makeover if Casale wants to stay in the game.

Our family traditions always include "Brunch with Santa" we were welcomed by one of the owner who attended to every detail. Santa was greeting every child and table, it was truely adorable. The omlette station was "create your own" and served hot and delicious! My twin daughters loved the "cookies and milk bar" which included strawberry milk, white milk, and chocolate milk. The adults enjoyed the Bloody Mary bar. It had really great different bloody Mary's from mild to hot, with a bacon vodka. We all enjoyed a treasured family tradition.

My husband and I decided to try this restaurant based on the Open Table reviews, but we were disappointed. We ordered several bottles of wine from the wine list, but they had virtually none of them. The wine locker near the door was empty. We ended up with a bottle that we know costs under $9.00 retail, when we were looking to buy a very nice bottle in the $60 range. The server continually apologized, and blamed the wine distributor. I have to say, knowing a little about that business, that her story just didn't add up. No wine distributor would walk away from restocking an entire restaurant during the holidays, it is obvious to me this place is struggling and probably not paying their bills. Food was just ok, nothing special.

It even spilled on my friend and in her purse, waitress didn't apologize. My other friend ordered whiskey & ginger ale, they split out the cost on the check and charged for the ginger ale. I've never seen that before. Our dinners took forever, we sat there for 3 hours and that's with no coffee or dessert.
