Took grandma for her 70th birthday and it was just perfect for that. Kids were happy with what they ordered. Adults were happy with what they ordered and grandma was happy with her fried chicken. Love the historical photos in the entry way and the distinctive Casa Orinda decor.

...and I live in Berkeley! Casa Orinda is famous for its succulent fried chicken - four pieces, with mashed potatoes, veggies and a biscuit for $20. Very large menu with Italian dishes (including something that is hard to find nowadays- veal). This is a very popular neighborhood place so you have to have reservations unless you arrive when they open at 4 p.m. Bar is always hopping and the drinks are perfectly made. If there is Cal football game on, you can barely get in after the game as so many Cal grads want to stay in the Bay Area and move to Orinda.

Casa Orinda has been part of the Easy Bay Restaurant scene since 1932. It has a classic, unfussy steak house and Italian menu, but keeps up to date, using quality, sustainable ingredients. Our steaks were tender, juicy and perfectly cooked. I am always on the lookout for classic restaurants that stand the test of time and Casa Orinda was such a find.

Not sure why there are all those five star ratings. This may be great for senior diners, but fine dining it is not! Chicken Marsala seemed to have can gravy.I will admit the sautéed Brussels sprouts were fresh and vet good. Fried chicken was good but came with more canned gravy and thin mashed potatoes.

Stopped in here for the first time. I had read the reviews about their fried chicken being so good. It is! Best fried chicken I have had in a long time. I saw a lot of veal dishes coming out of the kitchen so I assume they do some great veal too. The decor and all is a total mismatch for the food, but it's kind of fun. Our server, Al, took great care of us. He is personable and very efficient.

Had dinner at Casa Orinda last Saturday evening. The chicken melts in your mouth. Unfortunately, the caesar salad was very disappointing. It was really only lettuce with a drop of oil and vinegar. It was surprising that the chef would think that this in anyway resembled a true caesar. We will definitely go again but avoid that dish.

If you want to revisit the kind of restaurant you may have gone to with your parents-this is it! Very cozy interior with a fireplace and wonderful western cowboy paintings on the walls. Busy bar but you can still talk without raising your voice. The food is very traditional Italian(scallopini, etc.) with great fried chicken and burgers for those who are not into Italian. Good service and not outrageous prices!

Needed a place for 9 of us after a day of tailgating and football. Open Table found this wonderful little gem of a restaurant for us. Best of all we were all out of towners and one of our group actually remembered this restaurant from when he was a young boy. His grandparents had lived right up the street. Especially great fun/memories for him.

Our family has dined at Casa for 60+ years. We had not been there in 4 months-my dad chose it for his 91st birthday party. The food was better than we have ever had. Petrole Sole was 3 large thick pieces, our fried chicken hot, moist and mouth watering - with enough for dinner or chicken salad sandwiches the next day. The Veal Oscar had gorgeous asparagus and a daily special, capon avocado, was spectacularly good. We usually don't order extras as the servings are large but a shared beet salad and a side of brussel sprouts-yes brussel sprouts-was inhaled by the entire table. Our waitress brought dessert singing happy birthday with candles! You've got to love this place not just for the ambience but for the terrific food and caring people.

I AM angry. This is clearly an established restaurant with an established senior clientele who very likely were introduced to dining here by their parents or grandparents. Any good dining experience here has to be purely nostalgic. On both occasions we found the service beyond poor: From the busboy carelessly flicking a (cold) bread basket on the table, to the disinterest of the servers, the only friendly faces were that of hostess and bartender. The food? Vinaigrette extreme sour. Mashed potatoes too wet and overly salty. Broccoli undercooked. Lipton Tea served with (ice cold) milk. Clearly this place runs without any sense of quality control of food or service. My guess is it will wither along with its clientele. R.I.P.

Casa orinda has been in Orinda for ages and the clientele reflects that - lots of old timers at the bar and in the restaurant; the staff knows almost every patron who walks in. Their "famous fried chicken" rally is - it's delicious! For $19.95, you get a biscuit, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetables and 4 pieces (equaling a 1/2 chicken) of chicken. They also have nightly specials (the beet salad is really good) and great veal dishes.

Visiting family in the east bay and I asked them to take me to an old fashioned restaurant. Casa Orinda has been around since the 1930s I think. The friend chicken is their speciality and it was really delicious. Also had a salad with blue cheese dressing...iceberg and romaine. It was delicious. Service was slow and the waitress seemed exhausted but it was Saturday night and the place was jam packed. Big portions of Classic American fare - hit the spot after a week of arugula and radicchio in the city!

Casa Orinda is a jewel of the old school, with well-priced, heaping portions of superb comfort food, served beautifully and consistently over the decades. Whether the incredible fried chicken or the prime rib, there is simply nothing to compete in the San Francisco Bay Area with this food. Discerning diners from throughout the East Bay have treated Casa Orinda for years and years as their default restaurant, when they want a large menu with every choice, from steaks and chops to fish and fowl to the full range of Italian specialties, and a buzzing bar. Regulars and families throughout the dining rooms, surrounded by Western ranch memorabilia and a famous antique gun collection on the walls, with hustling-bustling wait-staff - a winner!

We were banished to the back room which is a mixed blessing. It is somewhat less noisy than the room off of the bar but it has all the warmth and style of a cafeteria. My wife had the Prime Rib which she liked very much. I had the fried chicken which needed more flavor in the coating. The chicken itself was very good. It was the juiciest chicken I have ever had. I don't know if we will be back soon because the meals were very heavy for us.

This was our first time at Casa Orinda. We tried 2 dishes. My husband had the paella special (pass on that one) and I had the fried chicken dinner. That's what they are known for along with prime rib. I was not disappointed. It was DELICIOUS! My husband wishes he ordered the chicken as the paella was bland and did not have enough seafood. The reviews on Yelp were spot on. Stick with the fried chicken and prime rib and bring a sweater as it was cold in there. We will be back!

Casa Orinda has stood the test of time. As one of the oldest restaurants in the Bay Area it has stayed true and doesn't take themselves too seriously. Most of the employees have worked there for many, many years and do a fine job in making one feel at home; bartenders are delightful. Food is good, not great. Husband ordered the famous fried chicken, which was moist and flavorful and served with creamy mashed potatoes, veggies and their house made biscuit. Mom in law enjoyed the burger and fries and I had the Petrale sole special, which was delicious but very rich. The menu has not changed much, if at all. I would have liked to see a couple of healthier options.
