Diner Reviews
  • "Found Casa Nonna simply searching the area for pre MSG concert. Took a gamble and wow, did it pay off! I can't say enough about how wonderful, knowledgeable and friendly our waitress was and how absolutely amazing the food was! Craving to return already and was just there last night!"

  • "Our server was really friendly - she struck the right balance between being pleasant and not being at the table way too much. The food was also very good. I'll be back for sure!"

  • "This restaurant is a gem. I have been there for both a group luncheon and a dinner with my husband The place is big and the tables are in front of comfortable booths so seating is great. Plus you are not on top of the next table which I find distracting. Close enough to theaters and MSG. Will go again!"

  • "Food here is fine. Really good salads at lunch. Nice setting and comfortable seating. But the service was very slow. Next time I will let them know up front that I have to go back to work. I guess that they get a lot of tourists."

  • "While the food at Casa Nonna was decent the service was non-existent it appeared to our table of four who at one point we were told bread was coming and the plate came to the table with 3 slices of bread for four people at the table. The drinks and appetizers ended taking so long we asked for the check the the server just said you got full on appetizers we paid the check and went on our way ."

  • "Casa Nova is a wonderful spot for a business lunch in the Garmet Center - a neighborhood that is generally a food wasteland. The menu is good and the service is fast. The noise level is low so it is conducive to conversation."

  • "We really enjoyed our pre-theater dinner at Casa Nonna. It's quite near the theater district but because it's in the high 30s rather than the low 40s, it doesn't get the same play that restaurants a few blocks north of it get. We enjoyed our meal, and the service was great, but if you're not a huge fan of spices and pepper, you must tell them when you begin your meal to give you bread, potatoes or anything else that can get seasoned to be prepared for you without said seasoning. Otherwise it was a very good choice for pre-theater."

  • "Just moved to this neighborhood (business), and hoping to make this my "go to" restaurant with clients. Have been there at least 1x week for 5 wks, often more. Service is friendly - food is good."

  • "We had a group of five. The restaurant was very accommodating to our seating preferences. Our server was exceptionally helpful, attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. All the food was remarkably good. There were a number of very good wines at reasonable prices. Although the restaurant was full, the noise level was low, so conversation was easy even for our large group. Overall, an outstanding experience. Highly recommended."

  • "Let's be honest, NYers tend to stay clear of the theater district dinner scene. Casa Nonna was a positive surprise. The street doesn't look very inviting, but when you enter the restaurant, you realize that this is a rare oasis. Every single dish for our party of 6 was cooked to perfection. The evening could only be topped by the Billy Joel concert afterwards."

  • "I'm always looking for decent restaurants near Penn Station to meet friends who commute. This is definitely one. The spinach salad was good. I didn't care for the fish. Service was excellent."

  • "amazing place to have a full 5 course meal. or just stop in and grab a drink and some of the best egg plant parm in the city ! service is always the best. great group of people managing the place."

  • "It was just glorious to have some great Pinot Grigio and the pasta pastora for which they willingly agreed to make it minus one ingredient that I cannot eat. Also the gelato was very tasty and pretty. It's nice to be able to hear your guest at a table without shouting, and Casa Nonna is now my favorite Manhattan restaurant!"

  • "We were looking for a nice place to eat prior to the theaters. This upscale italian restaurant in an unusual neighborhood was a true gem. Something we might find on the upper west side or soho. Large portions which were excellent."

  • "They must have spent a fortune on the decor here. It's really quite pleasant. The Italian food is very nice and the menu offers everything from pizza to steak. My spinach salad was terrific. Pasta was good, although the waitress brought the wrong dish. We ate it anyway."

  • "Every time I have friends from Europe visiting, this place is part of my tour since it is an upscale but relaxed restaurant. Great vibe and service ! Food is also great although I think it could vary more."

  • "Found this gem on open table, reviews were great and the actual experiance matched. Great service and suggestions from a very knowledgable waiter. The octopus was unbelievable, the meatballs even better which was hard to believe, our pasta dishes were perfect, and the deserts and cappuccinos were the perfect ending. Going back again before we leave town and adding this to our list of NYC fav's."

  • "I have now had two business dinners here with groups of 7-10 seated around a round table. Casa Nonna is a great place for conversation in addition to the wonderful food and service."

  • "We chose Casa Nonna because of the convenient location and great food. Though the food was delicious, our main waiter was less than friendly, and at times impatient. We were a group of old friends coming together after some time on a Wednesday evening after 8pm. We did not feel welcomed. I could not recommend this location to another group of friends."

  • "Have been here three times and just as good as the first. Definitely try the meatballs. Had my mom with me last and usually her meatballs win all the time but even she had to admit these were good :) If you are Gluten free they have a Gluten Free menu as well as will make any pasta dish with Gluten Free pasta. "

  • "We found this one when looking for a last minute dinner option near our hotel. It was well reviewed, and we definitely found out why! The food was amazing. Service was good. Prices weren't through the roof. What more could you ask for?"

  • "The restaurant is spacious and had a good bive to it. The service was great, lots of smiles and our waiter recommendations were right on point. The food was delicious! I will definitely come back this restaurant. "

  • "My partner and I go out very often and we both agreed that the food at Casa Nonna was delicious. We both ordered the branzino entrée with a side of fried potatoes (fantastic by the way!) and broccoli rabe. Their meatballs ware also very tasty (appetizer). At first my partner was skeptical because the restaurant is off the beaten track but the caring waitress and delicious food won him over. The place is perfect if you go to a Broadway show afterwards which we did. The show was at 8 pm and we had a 5:45 reservation at Casa Nonna. It was perfect."

  • "I have gone for lunch and dinner. Great decor and good food. Portions are smaller than most Italian restaurants but tasty. Great desserts too. Location is very unassuming, one of those places you would never go to unless someone told you about it, but once you a walk in you are pleasantly surprised. Great place to have dinner and cocktails with friends and chat without being overwhelmed. Even though it's located between Time Square and Penn Station the ambiance is serene."

  • "Excellent service very friendly and courteous staff. Appetizers were great and so was the food. Would highly recommend. Will definitely be back. So glad I found it on an on line search."

  • "Casa Nonna is a restaurant where you can talk, perfect for a business lunch or to meet friends. The room is pleasant and ambience good with a noise level that allows for conversation. The service was pleasant, and the wine list good. The food is good, fresh, rather predictable Italian. I had been excited to see Carciofi alla Giuda on the menu, but was disappointed when it came - I've eaten this many times in Rome and this salad wasn't what I'd expected. My pasta was over sauced but tasty, and we were split on the saltimbocca one loving it, the other finding it over salted. Also one of my guests had asked for his steak without potatoes, but got them anyway. Nevertheless a good place to know of if you want to talk and eat decently. "

  • "I was looking for a restaurant close to Penn Station that had good food. Most of the neighborhood joints are fast food, or just God-awful. Casa Nonna was a delightful surprise. The service was friendly and attentive, without being overly so. The ambience was quiet and slightly upscale, but not snooty. The food was OUTSTANDING!! I had scallops with artichoke puree and my friend had the branzino, which was tender and flavorful. There was fresh, warm focaccia before dinner and the drinks were good as well. I heartily recommend it and would definitely go back if I was at an event at Madison Square Garden."
