Diner Reviews
  • "My boyfriend and I went there for restaurant week. We were told we were too early for our reservation and we could wait at the bar. Fine, we each ordered a drink. My drink was not worth the $15 and his was mediocre. We also had to wait a long time to be waited on at the bar. Still we pressed on, and went to the dining area. Once seated it took 15 minutes for us to even get menus and another 15 to have our order taken. They might've been short staffed although the restaurant did not seem busy. Once our waiter clocked in everything went smoothly. Overall the portions were small, food decent. We would not be going back however because it's not worth the price even with the pri-fixe."

  • "Came here for restaurant week as a party of 6. The lady who is in charge of seatings by the door was full of energy and made us feel very welcomed. Our waitress and waiter was very attentive even when it was busy. Water was constantly being refilled. Waiter could have been more polite when putting our dishes down instead of slamming it down infront of us. Overall, ambience was lively and service was exceptional compared to other places during restaurant week. On top of that the food was delicious and plated really nicely. Would absolutely come back here on a regular basis."

  • "I discovered Casa Nonna for restaurant week, but ordered dinner from the regular menu, since the food was reasonably priced. I had the buffalo cheese with marinated red pepper for an appetizer, the frutti di mare for my entree, pistachio & chocolate gelato for dessert & a Nonna-jito (mojito). It was a very enjoyable meal, everything was excellent the food, service and ambience. I will definitely be back again to Casa Nonna for a home style Italian dinner that doesn't disappoint."

  • "This is our favorite midtown restaurant. Food is fresh and delicious. The homemade gnocchi is the best I have had this side of the Atlantic. During restaurant week had skate that was cooked perfectly. The citrus sorbet with melon was out of this world and I will order it next time I eat there if it is on the menu. Love the fact the food is local and seasonal."

  • "Excellent Experience! Food was delicious! They had a gluten free menu, and, were very accommodating to special needs. Bartender recommended happy hour special, red wine $6/glass, and it was wonderful! The wait staff made good recommendations and gave excellent service. Overall, this was an excellent experience and I will go back. The restaurant is appropriate for anything: date night, a drink at the bar, a meal with a friend, co-workers and groups."

  • "We were very pleased with everything! Tip: Bruschetta eating order ... start witth "classic" ... end with paté. The "angolotti" was amazing."

  • "My friends and I are constantly looking for decent dining options near Penn Station and Casa Nonna fit the bill perfectly - nice Italian menu with a few twists to keep it interesting, all the dishes were delicious and fresh, and very attentive service. A bit on the expensive side but the food and ambiance made it worth it. Great place to meet up with friends for dinner."

  • "The food is to die for - melt in your mouth pasta - fresh made - & sausages - again made fresh! I was looking for a nice place in this area - midway between all the parties involved and this location was perfect. They were very accommodating - we added people at the last minute. Each of us (5) had a different meal and ALL were delicious. The bread received rave reviews from my friends, too! We were celebrating a birthday and chose to order 10 different desserts - all of which were exceptional. From our starter course to our desserts the food was fab and the prices not outrageous. The only thing that stops the 5 star review was the A/C was not working well and a couple of people in our party were warm."

  • "This was my second time at Casa Nonna, as I had been there for a company holiday party. As soon as I enter the restaurant, I am pleased by the space and décor. One enters into a "waiting area" with coat check; There is a bar with nice seating to the left, and lots or dining area ahead. There is also a private dining room for special occasions. The back wall is completely covered in art. Overall, the ambience and atmosphere is great. The food is delicious; we were told it's prepared fresh every day (as one would expect for the high price, of course..) however, the service was a bit slow; when we asked for little things like water and crispy bread refills, it took forever to arrive. I would definitely dine here again."

  • "So I was placed in charge of finding a place for our party...wanted something close to midtown as we were at the Mariott Marquis. This gem was super. Our server was knowledgeable & efficient. The food was off the hook! We all competed as to who had the best entree! I ordered 4 items (salami, cheese, fig & heirloom tomatos & meatballs) for us to nosh on & then everyone selected their dish & were quite happy. I'd go back in a minute!"

  • "Casa Nonna is a hidden gem that cannot be missed! I went there with a dear friend to celebrate her birthday and Kevin, our waiter was incredibly warm and inviting when asking if we had any questions about the menu. Definitely had a blast and will be return for the 4 person pre fixe!"

  • "Found Casa Nonna simply searching the area for pre MSG concert. Took a gamble and wow, did it pay off! I can't say enough about how wonderful, knowledgeable and friendly our waitress was and how absolutely amazing the food was! Craving to return already and was just there last night!"

  • "I was looking to my latest visit to Casa Nonna, but unfortunately on a Sunday evening, the entrees were general unremarkable. The swordfish filets were overcooked and dried out, and the prawns were mealy. The desserts and the appetizers were mildly better. Thank goodness for the generally attentive service. I look forward to my next visit and receive the level of food I come to expect from this restaurant."

  • "Our server was really friendly - she struck the right balance between being pleasant and not being at the table way too much. The food was also very good. I'll be back for sure!"

  • "This restaurant is a gem. I have been there for both a group luncheon and a dinner with my husband The place is big and the tables are in front of comfortable booths so seating is great. Plus you are not on top of the next table which I find distracting. Close enough to theaters and MSG. Will go again!"

  • "Food here is fine. Really good salads at lunch. Nice setting and comfortable seating. But the service was very slow. Next time I will let them know up front that I have to go back to work. I guess that they get a lot of tourists."

  • "While the food at Casa Nonna was decent the service was non-existent it appeared to our table of four who at one point we were told bread was coming and the plate came to the table with 3 slices of bread for four people at the table. The drinks and appetizers ended taking so long we asked for the check the the server just said you got full on appetizers we paid the check and went on our way ."

  • "We really enjoyed our pre-theater dinner at Casa Nonna. It's quite near the theater district but because it's in the high 30s rather than the low 40s, it doesn't get the same play that restaurants a few blocks north of it get. We enjoyed our meal, and the service was great, but if you're not a huge fan of spices and pepper, you must tell them when you begin your meal to give you bread, potatoes or anything else that can get seasoned to be prepared for you without said seasoning. Otherwise it was a very good choice for pre-theater."

  • "Casa Nova is a wonderful spot for a business lunch in the Garmet Center - a neighborhood that is generally a food wasteland. The menu is good and the service is fast. The noise level is low so it is conducive to conversation."

  • "Just moved to this neighborhood (business), and hoping to make this my "go to" restaurant with clients. Have been there at least 1x week for 5 wks, often more. Service is friendly - food is good."

  • "We had a group of five. The restaurant was very accommodating to our seating preferences. Our server was exceptionally helpful, attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. All the food was remarkably good. There were a number of very good wines at reasonable prices. Although the restaurant was full, the noise level was low, so conversation was easy even for our large group. Overall, an outstanding experience. Highly recommended."

  • "Let's be honest, NYers tend to stay clear of the theater district dinner scene. Casa Nonna was a positive surprise. The street doesn't look very inviting, but when you enter the restaurant, you realize that this is a rare oasis. Every single dish for our party of 6 was cooked to perfection. The evening could only be topped by the Billy Joel concert afterwards."

  • "It was just glorious to have some great Pinot Grigio and the pasta pastora for which they willingly agreed to make it minus one ingredient that I cannot eat. Also the gelato was very tasty and pretty. It's nice to be able to hear your guest at a table without shouting, and Casa Nonna is now my favorite Manhattan restaurant!"

  • "We were looking for a nice place to eat prior to the theaters. This upscale italian restaurant in an unusual neighborhood was a true gem. Something we might find on the upper west side or soho. Large portions which were excellent."

  • "They must have spent a fortune on the decor here. It's really quite pleasant. The Italian food is very nice and the menu offers everything from pizza to steak. My spinach salad was terrific. Pasta was good, although the waitress brought the wrong dish. We ate it anyway."

  • "Found this gem on open table, reviews were great and the actual experiance matched. Great service and suggestions from a very knowledgable waiter. The octopus was unbelievable, the meatballs even better which was hard to believe, our pasta dishes were perfect, and the deserts and cappuccinos were the perfect ending. Going back again before we leave town and adding this to our list of NYC fav's."
