Diner Reviews
  • "Food and service are good. but the space is really small. The restaurant week menu is not as good as regular menu. we ordered from the regular menu, it's pretty tasty."

  • "This was one of our favourite restaurants in NYC, when it was on the way up... This time was so so. Food still good, but from a more limited menu. And nothing blew us away this time, which had been our experience in the past. Maybe the success has allowed them to coast. We were seated early (told that it was our only option), but the restaurant remained mostly empty around us for the two hours we were there."

  • "One disspointing evening. Rude, careless waiters in an excessively noisy ambience made it impossible to enjoy neither food nor conversation. Never again."

  • "Really outstanding service, inventive and eye opening food and a well curated wine selection for all price ranges makes this restaurant truly worthy of a michelin star. My only comment would be a suggestion to have more off-menu seasonal items available. The one item they did have, I tried (it was roasted eggplanted over an eggplant/anise puree) and it was fantastic!"

  • "We had a great early dinner . The food and wines made us feel like we were transported to Spain for the afternoon !We recommend Casa Mono to foodies and others that are looking for new tastes."

  • "some dishes are good, but some are just not that great. it's way overpriced, like all tapas joints. we won't go back."

  • "Incredible food and service!!the scallops and lambada leg amazing!! Also Mono Salad deliciosa! Very nice place!"

  • "A great combination of atmosphere, service and amazing food. The wait-staff and wine-guy are not snooty but are very knowledgeable and helpful. They bring out the tapas with perfect order and timing. Small place, but a very pleasant atmosphere. The sauces are world-class. Only imperfect thing is that I think the desserts are not quite as good as everything else. E.g. bread pudding was flavorful but too sweet."

  • "Such a wonderful restaurant. Whenever we're in NY, we always make sure we eat at Casa Mono...great food, great ambience... Wish we could bring you with us to Hawaii"

  • "Too crowded to wait at bar counter, so I had to wait outside for all my friends to gather. Food was good, but size was small if you consider the price. If you were a Spanish wine lover, this restaurant is the must to go."

  • "Perhaps the best Tapas in NYC. Great wine list - principally Spanish as is appropriate. Irving Place is a reasonably quiet street so when they leave the sliding doors open it is quite comfortable. Love to sit at the bar and watch how they turn out the variety of dishes as quickly as they do. I have only done lunch at Casa Mono. It is a small space so I can imagine it is overflowing at dinner. Particularly enjoyed the razor clams, octopus with fennel and crispy pork belly."

  • "While our actual server was great, we were stunned by the fact that both the hosts refused to allow us to sit down because the third member of our party had not arrived, at 4:55 PM when the restaurant had TWO customers in it only and it was 85 degrees outside. Talk about a stupid policy. Our friend was late, so while we explained we were happy to sit and begin reading the menu and even ordering on our friends behalf, they refused. Then when our friend did arrive at 5:15 they informed us we would have to "hurry up" and be out by seven because they needed the table. The food here is good, but we were all surprised by the obvious stupidity of policy over common sense and hospitality. Our check would have been much higher if they'd let us sit."

  • "If you ever had the opportunity to eat at Bar Pinotxo at La Boqueria in Barcelona the food here is the closest you'll get in NYC, with upgraded service and fantastic wine. This is an exceptional dining experience."

  • "Casa Mono is one of my favorite tapas spots in the city. I always find something new on their menu that I need to try. This time around, the stand out dish was Fideos with Chorizo and Clams. Quite literally, the entire table just FOUGHT OVER the savory fideo noodles and fresh clams. I would go back and order 2 next time. The foie was a bit underwhelming in portion/price, but pig ears and squid was also widely enjoyed and fun to eat. Overall, a great experience as always."

  • "What a find. Great tapas and fantastic ambience. We wanted a good restaurant for a special night out in New York and we certainly found it in Casa Mona."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "We really didn´t like it at all. It is a pretentious restaurant. The food comes not in small, but in tiny portions, but of course at steep prices. It is not a Spanish food restaurant (nothing with Uni can be called a Spanish-food restaurant). I´d never go back again, never."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "If you love Tapas this is pretty good. It's almost Spain like good. A little pricey if you don't mind. Service might be a little slow but definitely worth a try."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "always a favorite. service is excellent and food is always consistent."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "The regular menu plus specials provide great choices for everyone. The food is consistently very good, with courses timed very well. The staff is friendly and the wait staff particularly knowledgeable. Warm weather allows the restaurant to open the doors giving an "outdoor feel". Always a great choice."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "Food was pretty good overall, though my setas & garlic (mushrooms) was way too salty, we couldn't eat it."
    Dined on 6/8/2014
  • "I've been coming to this restaurant for almost a decade and it has never disappointed. I love that my favorite dishes (fideos with clams, sweetbreads, bacalao) are always on the menu, but do not remain stagnant, with pleasant and surprising tweaks to the preparation. On this visit, the crispy pork belly was rich and sweet and meltingly delicious, and the blackened beet salad amazed this beet-hater, it may have been my favorite dish of the night! One change I noticed since my last visit a few years ago is that the waiters and hosts, while still very knowledgeable, were much friendlier this time and, gasp, even smiled! Lovely. (But where are the wonderful tables with the little desks underneath? Was it just mine, or are they all gone? Pity!)"

  • "Had 6 plates between the two of us, each an excellent adventure. Goat confit was the favorite by a nose. We ordered wine by the glass due to the varied nature of our dishes. We were very impressed by the attention paid by the sommelier. This was a nice touch. Crowded and noisy, but what would one expect from a Manhattan hot spot?"

  • "Had always heard that this was the best tapas place in NY. We were unimpressed by the food - we ordered some of the more famous dishes and werent really wowed by any of them. The service wasnt too great and the dining room was small and cramped. Wouldnt be going back here any time soon. "

  • "Over cooked seafood, and seemingly everything overpriced for small servings. The ramps with romesco were delicious. Service was best part of meal."
    Dined on 5/27/2014
  • "Tapas style, great way to eat several menu items. Food was very flavorful. They cannot accommodate parties larger than 6. Everyone enjoyed their meal. "

  • "Good wine selection and interesting menu choices, great small plates. Would definitely o back - moderate pricing too."

  • "Imagine sharing dishes that you have to fight over...so delectable that you would run over your grandmother to get a 2nd bite. Sure, the dishes are perfect for sharing...make certain that you get 6-7 for a full evening's meal, but don't be surprised if you are jousting your partner for the last bite or jamon or lamb belly. "

  • "This bar is fabulas. Food quality is 5 stars on par with the top tapas places in Barcelona Small but good ambiance and service "

  • "I had been wanting to get to Casa Mono for a while and finally tried it for lunch. (When it opened it was just too crowded.) The food is very good, very sharable, not horribly pricey. We had oxtail stuffed piquillo peppers, silky scallops, salad with manchego and everything was great. Our server was completely bored by us. She asked a question and then looked out the window waiting for a reply. I'm not sure if she had teeth --if so, she never showed them with a smile. The place is very small, so you have to wait on the sidewalk for your party to arrive as they will not seat you for 5 minutes alone -- even at a 1:30 lunchtime with a half empty restaurant. Mario needs to read one of Danny Meyer's customer service books. "

  • "Tiny cramped space but well worth it. Every plate was delicious, creative and almost addictve. Pigs ears, fideos, pulpo, pork belly, anchovies. Bring some friends so you try more dishes. Union Square gem. Sorry I didn't discover this place sooner. "

  • "First time there and loved it! Sat at the bar looking at the open kitchen, very fun dining experience. Food was great! A couple dishes were indeed a bit on the salty side as some reviews said on here, but flavor-wise still very good. "

  • "I have dined here half a dozen times in the past year. Some of the dishes are inspired while others are good. If you would like tapas, but cannot make it to Spain, then this is a very good choice. The dining area is, to say the least, "cozy"; this impacts the service as it is difficult for the wait staff to move around. The wine list is excellent."

  • "Very creative menu. Superb tapas, razor clams, foie gras, fideus, and so on and so forth. Terrific wine list with wonderful Spanish wines. Tight spaces."

  • "I liked EVERYTHING! A bit pricey, but I highly recommend it."

  • "The bottom line is that Casa Mono is a wonderful dining experience! It is a small restaurant with a huge opportunity to taste truly uniquely prepared food! Musts on their menu ... foie gras, pork belly, quail ... our group of four enjoyed the small plates, adding and ordering more choices as we sat sipping our wine and becoming more and more adventuresome as the evening wore on. Mario Batali deserves his Michelin stars for this restaurant! "

  • "The food at Casa Mono was absolutely amazing. The butterscotch scallops was the best thing I've had in months!"
    Dined on 5/4/2014
  • "we've dined here a number of times and the food is consistently very good. The tables are pretty close , not a lot of space to move around, but the good wines help you forget this impediment:) Consider 2 tapas per person to share , that would be enough, "
    Dined on 5/4/2014
  • "I keep going back and every time I'm dazzled by the array of flavors in their tapas, such creative cooking. Among my favorite the foie gras, the marrow bones, the razor clams, the artichokes with miny"
    Dined on 5/3/2014
  • "My friend was in from out of town and I took her here for lunch. We ordered the foie gras, the bone marrow, the duck egg and cured tuna, the confit goat, and the pig's ears (and an ambulance). It was ALL AMAZING! The chef was great to watch, she made it look so easy. But everything was nailed. Such a great experience. I've been 3 times now for lunch and dinner and each time is fantastic."
