Diner Reviews
  • "Once again, FANTASTIC. Food and wine were outstanding. Service was excellent at this adorable restaurant."

  • "This is one of those restaurants that does not necessarily stand out; it is a small corner spot that I would probably have never explored if it hadn't been for a colleague's recommendation. However, it was one of the best restaurant experiences I have ever had. The food was carefully prepared, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. The best part of it all was that we had the opportunity to sit at the counter and watch all of the food be prepared. The wine list is extensive--definitely expensive, but we were not unsatisfied. The service was also excellent. Our waiter helped us choose an appropriate wine (that we loved) and the chefs, while in action, were happy to answer our questions."

  • "Small and intimate interior. I would consider bar if single or small group to watch cooks. Excellent food, small portions, but delicious. Decent wine selection. Great servers: knowledge and service. Adequate support staff but seemed to be just doing their job."

  • "We're occasional customers at Casa Mono and always enjoy the food and wine. This time we tried out their restaurant week menu. The food (other than the dessert) was delicious, featuring a particularly outstanding pulpo appetizer served on a bed of creamy avocado, but the portions were tiny. I say this as a petite woman: three slices of chorizo does not a main course make, even at lunch. My chocolate cake was tragically stale: it looked like a molten cake, and possibly was one when the pastry chef took it out of the oven a couple of months ago, but by the time it reached my fork it was cold, hard, and insipid. But by that point I was too merrily sloshed on the brimming quartino of rose our server clandestinely poured for me to care."

  • "We used restaurant week as an excuse to try as many dishes as possible - we ordered one of everything on the special lunch menu. The favorites were: paella croquetas, pulpo, the grilled tomato, dorado, and for dessert, the chocolate cake and the melon sorbet. Most of these items are not on the regular menu, so my advice to future diners is try everything! NB - this place is tiny! There are very few tables and they are so close together, you can share a dish with your neighbors without stretching. Eating at the counter might be a better option..."

  • "It used to be one of my favoriate restaurant. But after my latest lunch visit during NYC Restaurant Week, I am a little hesitate to say so. To be fair, the food is still good there. But the service is the worst I've ever seen. The waitress asks if we would like to order any wine first. After I told her that no wine for us as we need to go back to the office. She abruptly left and we waited there forever for her to be back to take order. And she didn't show up again during the entire meal. And they charge $10 for syrup on sobert?? $10 to make up the profilt for participating in NYRW? When I try to reason this with her, she said "don't show me the attitude"..... I can't believe Casa Mono hires such a rude person to damage it's reputation."

  • "The size of the portions for appetizer and entree were ridiculously infinitesimal and could hard,be considered lunch!! Secondly, our waiter couldn't describe the dishes and seemed annoyed we asked, disappeared and was generally not interested in providing the attention a waiter should. They shouldn't be on Restaurant Week if they're not going to offer an appropriate meal!!!"

  • "Not very impressive. Would not recommend this place. The choice for tapas were I impressive and ridiculously priced. Skip it!"
    Dined on 8/4/2014
  • "This Michelin star restaurant has am eclectic and amazing menu of small and a few large to share using organic meats and accompaniments! Delicious meal and ambiance. Reservations are a must as it's a hard table to get as a walk in!"

  • "We really loved all foods we ordered… already discussed go back again!!!"

  • "One of my favorite dining places in the city. Everything there is delicious."

  • "I was very satisfied with the appetizer, but my entree was as big as my appetizer basically. Other than that everything was delicious."

  • "The food is what shines at Mono. The small plates are great for sharing. The tables are close together, so a noisy neighbor can be an issue. Service wasn't up to One Star standards. The staff seemed untrained and rushed. A waiter plunked down a dish on our table and left so quickly we couldn't tell him it wasn't what we ordered. It took several minutes to get anyone's attention to explain. When they ran my credit card the slip I was given to sign had a higher amount on it than my bill (about 20% higher). I thought it might be a gratuity, but there was a line for tips. The waiter said it was wrong and re-ran my card."

  • "A great first visit to Casa Mono. We had the chickpea fritters, green tomato w/ goat cheese, chorizo and a few other items all were terrific. The creme catalan was a spectacular finish to the meal. There was a lot of staff in the restaurant who were pleasant but not overly friendly. Not the best choice with kids ( who loved the food) only because of the tight table space and the staff didn't know how to deal with them."

  • "We were able to sit at the bar watching the chefs, which was cool. The dishes were small for the price. But really the flavors were quite good and there were interesting combinations. The waitress suggested we order all our dishes at once so it wouldn't take "really long" to wait for each dish, which we had never experienced at a Tapas place. I am 95% vegetarian and didn't find much for me ( just a few non-meat dishes), but I'm 95% committed for a reason :) The wine list was extensive and varied and probably the most impressive part of the experience - several ways to order was nice. Still, overall a pretty good place, just know the lay of the land, and enjoy your experience! :)"

  • "Food and service are good. but the space is really small. The restaurant week menu is not as good as regular menu. we ordered from the regular menu, it's pretty tasty."
    Dined on 7/24/2014
  • "This was one of our favourite restaurants in NYC, when it was on the way up... This time was so so. Food still good, but from a more limited menu. And nothing blew us away this time, which had been our experience in the past. Maybe the success has allowed them to coast. We were seated early (told that it was our only option), but the restaurant remained mostly empty around us for the two hours we were there."

  • "One disspointing evening. Rude, careless waiters in an excessively noisy ambience made it impossible to enjoy neither food nor conversation. Never again."
    Dined on 7/21/2014
  • "Really outstanding service, inventive and eye opening food and a well curated wine selection for all price ranges makes this restaurant truly worthy of a michelin star. My only comment would be a suggestion to have more off-menu seasonal items available. The one item they did have, I tried (it was roasted eggplanted over an eggplant/anise puree) and it was fantastic!"

  • "We had a great early dinner . The food and wines made us feel like we were transported to Spain for the afternoon !We recommend Casa Mono to foodies and others that are looking for new tastes."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "some dishes are good, but some are just not that great. it's way overpriced, like all tapas joints. we won't go back."

  • "Incredible food and service!!the scallops and lambada leg amazing!! Also Mono Salad deliciosa! Very nice place!"
    Dined on 7/9/2014
  • "A great combination of atmosphere, service and amazing food. The wait-staff and wine-guy are not snooty but are very knowledgeable and helpful. They bring out the tapas with perfect order and timing. Small place, but a very pleasant atmosphere. The sauces are world-class. Only imperfect thing is that I think the desserts are not quite as good as everything else. E.g. bread pudding was flavorful but too sweet."

  • "Such a wonderful restaurant. Whenever we're in NY, we always make sure we eat at Casa Mono...great food, great ambience... Wish we could bring you with us to Hawaii"

  • "Too crowded to wait at bar counter, so I had to wait outside for all my friends to gather. Food was good, but size was small if you consider the price. If you were a Spanish wine lover, this restaurant is the must to go."

  • "Perhaps the best Tapas in NYC. Great wine list - principally Spanish as is appropriate. Irving Place is a reasonably quiet street so when they leave the sliding doors open it is quite comfortable. Love to sit at the bar and watch how they turn out the variety of dishes as quickly as they do. I have only done lunch at Casa Mono. It is a small space so I can imagine it is overflowing at dinner. Particularly enjoyed the razor clams, octopus with fennel and crispy pork belly."

  • "While our actual server was great, we were stunned by the fact that both the hosts refused to allow us to sit down because the third member of our party had not arrived, at 4:55 PM when the restaurant had TWO customers in it only and it was 85 degrees outside. Talk about a stupid policy. Our friend was late, so while we explained we were happy to sit and begin reading the menu and even ordering on our friends behalf, they refused. Then when our friend did arrive at 5:15 they informed us we would have to "hurry up" and be out by seven because they needed the table. The food here is good, but we were all surprised by the obvious stupidity of policy over common sense and hospitality. Our check would have been much higher if they'd let us sit."

  • "If you ever had the opportunity to eat at Bar Pinotxo at La Boqueria in Barcelona the food here is the closest you'll get in NYC, with upgraded service and fantastic wine. This is an exceptional dining experience."

  • "Casa Mono is one of my favorite tapas spots in the city. I always find something new on their menu that I need to try. This time around, the stand out dish was Fideos with Chorizo and Clams. Quite literally, the entire table just FOUGHT OVER the savory fideo noodles and fresh clams. I would go back and order 2 next time. The foie was a bit underwhelming in portion/price, but pig ears and squid was also widely enjoyed and fun to eat. Overall, a great experience as always."

  • "What a find. Great tapas and fantastic ambience. We wanted a good restaurant for a special night out in New York and we certainly found it in Casa Mona."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "We really didn´t like it at all. It is a pretentious restaurant. The food comes not in small, but in tiny portions, but of course at steep prices. It is not a Spanish food restaurant (nothing with Uni can be called a Spanish-food restaurant). I´d never go back again, never."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "If you love Tapas this is pretty good. It's almost Spain like good. A little pricey if you don't mind. Service might be a little slow but definitely worth a try."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "always a favorite. service is excellent and food is always consistent."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "The regular menu plus specials provide great choices for everyone. The food is consistently very good, with courses timed very well. The staff is friendly and the wait staff particularly knowledgeable. Warm weather allows the restaurant to open the doors giving an "outdoor feel". Always a great choice."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "Food was pretty good overall, though my setas & garlic (mushrooms) was way too salty, we couldn't eat it."
    Dined on 6/8/2014
  • "I've been coming to this restaurant for almost a decade and it has never disappointed. I love that my favorite dishes (fideos with clams, sweetbreads, bacalao) are always on the menu, but do not remain stagnant, with pleasant and surprising tweaks to the preparation. On this visit, the crispy pork belly was rich and sweet and meltingly delicious, and the blackened beet salad amazed this beet-hater, it may have been my favorite dish of the night! One change I noticed since my last visit a few years ago is that the waiters and hosts, while still very knowledgeable, were much friendlier this time and, gasp, even smiled! Lovely. (But where are the wonderful tables with the little desks underneath? Was it just mine, or are they all gone? Pity!)"

  • "Had 6 plates between the two of us, each an excellent adventure. Goat confit was the favorite by a nose. We ordered wine by the glass due to the varied nature of our dishes. We were very impressed by the attention paid by the sommelier. This was a nice touch. Crowded and noisy, but what would one expect from a Manhattan hot spot?"
    Dined on 6/5/2014
  • "Had always heard that this was the best tapas place in NY. We were unimpressed by the food - we ordered some of the more famous dishes and werent really wowed by any of them. The service wasnt too great and the dining room was small and cramped. Wouldnt be going back here any time soon. "

  • "Over cooked seafood, and seemingly everything overpriced for small servings. The ramps with romesco were delicious. Service was best part of meal."
