I am not from DC and wanted to check out a local hotspot. I have also never tried truffles. The food was amazing, service was wonderful, and my overall dining experience was by far the best meal of my trip to DC. Be prepared to spend some money but it is worth it!

One of the best new restaurants in the city -- with fabulous food and service, a menu that accommodates allergy and eating issues, and a staff that is unmatched. The decor is stylish and yet personable. The wine list is excellent. This place is a gem. HIGHLY recommended.

I've been to Fiola and Fiola Mare and was curious about Casa Luca so I finally stopped in for an early lunch. The ambiance was very cozy (especially on a cold and rainy day) and handled the increasing noise levels of my fellow diners quite well. The service was on point, just enough to make sure I had everything I needed but not overbearing. The food and portions were more than I could have hoped for. Everything was fresh, perfectly al dente, and seasoned extremely well. I will definitely be coming here again soon.

Made a 5:30 dinner rez and were among the first seated for dinner. Service was disappointing from the start. My guest and I were unfamiliar with tap wines and the waitress was not helpful in advancing our knowledge. Her response was "some people like them because they're lighter". (maybe a small taste given the price point and rareness of this option and the limited number of bottled wines by the glass? At least a little more info?). She then hovered a lot even though the place was nearly empty. We ordered 4 small plates and had to repeat the order for one after it failed to arrived. We asked for dressing on the side for our salad, but it came dressed. I could see and taste what's possible at Casa Luce, but it's not quite there.

Took my friends who were visiting DC, and they had a fantastic time especially because of the appetizers (Bruscetta/Platter). Superb. The entrees were not as impressive as the first course, but still very decent. We couldn't eat lamb but they were included in the mixed plate so the waiter brought out more beef steak for us. And they also gave us delicious, free pear sorbets for dessert. Great service, I should say!

The ambiance of the restaurant and the service was excellent. However, I was disappointed by the food. It felt like they were trying too hard to make innovative Italian. First, we ordered the bruschetta with ricotta and persimmons. There were quite a few bells and whistles on it, but the flavors did meld very well together. Unfortunately, this was the only good dish of the evening. We also ordered the lobster appetizer. There was such a strong, smoky flavor that it overpowered the lobster. I could barely taste it. For an entree, I ordered the white pork ragu gnocchi. It tasted great, however, the texture felt like I was eating a bowl of paste. It was heavy and gooey. Stop trying too hard, Casa Luca!

A great meal once again! I have dined at Casa Luca numerous times. The past two were not to the standards and quality I was accustom too. However, yesterday's meal was back on mark! The quality of the food was superb. The small plates are a must. Each month they feature an ingredient in season. This month it's truffles!

Second time we've been here, and it confirmed our view that this is a real find. Excellent food, good ambiance, first-class service. Started with charcuterie platter, chickpeas with tuna, and caesar salad. All superb. Then the daily special -- a seafood risotto, and two pastas. Great. A menu that has more than the usual to choose from. Highly recommend.

Casa Luca may be the informal version of its big brother Fiola--but it certainly has a very high standard of kitchen success and service. The pastas are unique but sensible. Appetizers are inventive and deserts are full of imagination------and all of this comes at a very decent price point. They also have some very fine house cocktails. We are happy to go there any time!

We had never heard of casa Luca but reviews on open table seemed consistently good, so we made reservations for our anniversary dinner. The food was amazing - we were one of the first seated for dinner and sat outside - the weather was perfect! Pretty soon the outdoor seating was full and he restaurant started filling up. The service wasn't the best, but was acceptable - I think our waitress had a lot of tables. All in all - amazing experience - we will be back and would recommend to anyone

Major disappoint after having had a half dozen memorable experiences here. Service was slow and distracted as if short staffed with the hostesses bravely waiting tables. All four dishes we ordered were unpalatable. The Burrata salad was a tasteless lump of mozzarella on stale bitter greens. The smoked gnocchi bolognese didn't taste smoked and swam in an unpleasant watery sauce that would have embarrassed the Olive Garden. The Bucatini with Tiger Prawns likewise had a watery sauce that tasted like it had been in the kitchen for days. The prawns had not been peeled or cooked so that shells and heads easily came off so you had to reach into the sauce with your fingers to peel them. Hopefully, tonight was just a single aberration.

At our bday dinner we asked for a quiet table & were seated in a corner booth. We split the burrata Caesar salad - a sophisticated intrerpretation. We had ravioli San Remo-the hit of the evening, melding flavors exquisitely. The buccatini was also delicious. We had to request bread. The tasty rolls were like Parkerhouse rolls, not your usual Italian bread. Our good wine was from the $28 list. A complaint was that our waiter didn't ask about taking home our remaining wine. We got dessert to share and were given a bday dessert on the house-delish. A manager offered us cherrycello (like limoncello) to celebrate.Yum. Another manager graciously checked in with us. In contrast, our waiter did his job but wasn't especially personable.

I have dined for lunch and dinner at Casa Luca more times that I can count. My last few visits have been disappointing. I see a downward trend in food quality and service. I had a late lunch with a business associated. There were few occupied tables but the service was very slow. The food was disappointing..very heavy with olive oil...not the fresh light meals they once served. Not only is the food and service quality declining the prices have visibly increased. I do not think this will be a favorite any more.

  • A modern model restaurant
    zorro
    Dined on 9/9/2014
Casa Luca is owned by a distinguished chef but it suffers from the modern bar/restaurant model. The bar is surrounded two-deep by shouting yahoos. That forces the noise level up well over 85 decibels and compels the diners to shout at one another if they wish to be heard. The food is a work in progress. Nothing memorable. The service, outdoors at least, is haphazard. We gave our main order to the manager and the desert order to the busboy. The ambiance is beyond energetic, it is simply a din, which seems to be the goal of new restaurants these days. The bar denizens and the diners will be shouting at each other for the rest of their lives due to poor hearing. The surprising thing is that adults put up with it.

We had an excellent dinner at Casa Luca! Having been a fan of Fabio's other restaurants, we'd wanted to try this one and finally made a reservation for a Saturday night. Even though the neighborhood is more office-oriented, the restaurant was fully booked which added to the ambience. Our reservation was for 8:45 for a party of four, and when we arrived (on-time) we were asked to wait. That wasn't a problem, we ordered a drink at the bar (delicious) and maybe 15-20 minutes later they seated us, and gave us complimentary prosecco for having to wait. That was a great way to start the meal and we had nothing but a great experience with both the food and the service the rest of the night.

We chanced into Casa Luca this evening and were simply delighted! There was a very vibrant bar scene, but the restaurant was large enough that we were able to sit in a pleasantly quiet section. The five of us celebrated our friend's 91st birthday at Casa Luca on Sunday night and it was wonderful in every respect. They easily accommodated her wheelchair and suggested wonderful appetizers for us to share. Two of our friends had the soft shell crabs, which they pronounced delicious. The rest of us had various pasta dishes, which made us feel like we were back in Italy. It was all wonderful. Loved the Raspberry-cello we were served at the end. Great restaurant, great food, great service!

I am not big on Italian food.. I know crazy, right? But man will I tell you, this place was absolutely incredible! I have never enjoyed pasta as much as I did when I went here for dinner. We started with the bruschetta and it was delicious. A tad bit hard to eat, but certainly worth making a bit of a mess. I then ordered the ravioli san leo. Hands down the best ravioli I have ever had. It was a lighter dish, but still very filling. I was full after dinner -- we didn't even order desert. I am also picky with my wine, and was shocked that they had few options by the glass. I had ordered a glass of red on tap and it was very good! I don't believe I have had wine on tap before..

The menu was varied enough to satisfy both a vegetarian and a dedicated meat eater. Our pasta dishes were excellent, as were the branzino and pork chop entrees. I scheduled the dinner for after Restaurant Week because of noise level concerns. Then Restaurant Week was extended! When I called, I was told that they would seat us at the quietest table possible. In deed, our "back room" table was perfect. The deserts (particularly my coffee gelato with chocolate sauce and flour less cake) were absolutely wonderful. Service was friendly and efficient, and the night was a total success! I highly recommend Casa Luca for a special dinner.
