  • "I've eaten at Casa Lever three times in the past 12 months (I live in Seattle). The first meal was charming, food was great, wine selections awesome. We ate there again about 6 months ago, and the service and food had slipped. This time, the service was inattentive and the food was just OK -- and the word must be getting around that their quality has fallen because only a third of the tables were taken on a Saturday night from 7:00 PM until we left at 8:30 PM. The space remains lovely -- especially with all the Andy Warhol portraits. But CL needs to put a General Manager in charge and hire a new chef and regain a sense of urgency and focus!"

  • "I had a strange meal at Casa Lever on Wednesday. The food was great. There is a beautiful menu and the specials were even better. I had a great asparagus appetizer and the pasta of the day. My meal was almost spoiled by slow and peculiar service. After my entree was served my waiter never returned. At one point two diners, the hostess, and a server, who patiently stood with the diners drinks on a tray, stood between my table and the next one. One of the diners butt was inches from my face. After about 5 minutes they all left only to return 10 minutes later. My dessert never arrived (I had ordered a mousse from a passing maitre'd) Finally paid at hostess station where I was comped my dessert "to go""

  • "We had dinner for four on a Thursday night. Food was very fresh and delicious. Had a variety of appetizers including caprese and beet salads, pasta, soup. All were quite good. We especially liked the Dover sole and Cod fish selections. For dessert, we had the gianduia milk chocolate and hazelnut crunch and a sponge cake choice which were also wonderful. Nice wine list and good atmosphere with vaulted ceilings and Warhol images along the walls. Would definitely return. "

Example, a side of something called "crispy potatoes" arrives as cut fingerlings covered in the cooking liquid in which they were sautéed and bearing no resemblance to anything "crispy." The rest of the food at our table was desultory at best. Were the food the equal of the decor and the service, Casa Lever would be at the top of the list rather than a place of expensive mediocrity."

The rabbit dish was reportedly excellent. Service came with an attitude, correct but filled with attitude. The noise level was high enough to interfere with conversation. The most startling was the wine menu; while varied and of quality, was ---- for a California used to high quality American and European wines ---- considerably overpriced. Despite its New York success, we wondered whether the restaurant would survive in San Francisco."

I would like to see a wine list with many more bottles under $100. It feels like it starts at $100 and most of the bottles are in the $200 to $400 range. I was steered towards a 2004 Barolo for $235 - which I really enjoyed - but felt just took me over what I really wanted to spend."
