  • "The waiting room is very old and stuffy. The room we were seated was a little crowded and loud. The food was very disappointing and salty. The only thing I enjoyed is the garlic mash potato."

  • "We started out with a reservation for 10, and this mushroomed to a group of 19. No problem. This staff was on it and gracious. They were attentive and helpful with babies & little kids. Add to this was, of course, the wonderful food. These folks know how to do beef. The tournados oscar was perfect. Some of the group had filet and others prime rib. Others in the group reported that the halibut was flawless. Everyone in our party was effusive in their praise of the food and service. But I will never forget how the wait staff made us feel so welcome, despite the burdens we placed on them. Thank you all for a wonderful evening."

  • "This is a beautiful restaurant with a large stone fireplace. Booths encompass the walls around the room. Round and square tables are the interior of the room. They have a sun room with tables, as well as an additional room for seating. It is much bigger inside than it appears from the outside. The menu has a page of appetizers. This is primarily steak and chops(pork & lamb). Dinner comes with choice of 4 salad types, as well as potato or vegetable. I enjoyed the Filet Mignon with vegetable, as well as a spinach salad. This was so good. Service is some of the best I've experienced. They have a good selection of wine and beers on tap."

We feel all the employee's enjoy there jobs. Never have to look for service very accommodating . I love The spinach salad and fried shrimp. Tuesday night specials are wonderful."

  • "We didn't tell them this was a special night for us, one year before we got married after being together 23 years. And no it wasn't that I didn't want to get married it's just the first day that we were able to get married with all the legal rights as other couples. Carvers is more like a private club, low keyed and we were taken to the wood paneled room with a fire going in the fireplace even on July 2. It reminds one of a time long gone with servers that know how to take care of their guest. The food as always is wonderful prepared just how one asked for it to be done. This isn't a place where your rushed, you may feel guilty for wanting to stay just a little longer then needed but again it was a specail night."

  • "This is so well hidden that even locals are still discovering it! The prime rib is their signature dish and was as perfect as our waiter Adam had described. The deserts were amazing and the service impeccable. Only criticism the booths in the library room are tight for adults to sit comfortably. Highly recommeded."

We have been to Carvers a few times and it is always delicious. Even the drinks were very good. The best Vodka tonic I have had in a long time. We all had steak of different varieties and each were just they way we ordered. Thanks to all of the staff for making our fathers day outing lovely!"

  • "We have been to Carver's several times with my in-laws in their 70's. They really enjoy it there. For us, the food is hit and miss. The ribs have always been good. We would call the steaks average if you compare them to Donovan's downtown. 80% or more of their clientele at the RB location is 50 years or over."

  • "We live in Carmel Mountain Ranch so it is nice to have this level of steakhouse not too far away from us. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. My dad ordered the surf & turf (medium rare) special but it was not made clear that the dish was spicy. We sent it back and was told that the spices would be "fired off" to remove the spices. Steak came back not spicy; however, Dad's lovely medium rare New York became medium-well and too tough for him to eat (he has chewing problems). Rather than send the steak back a 2nd time, my husband traded steaks with Dad just so he could eat. My recommendation is that the chef should have re-fired a new steak without the spices. Mom ordered the fish of the day and she said it was too salty."

  • "We were looking for a new steakhouse anywhere in San Diego. After reading reviews and checking out the menu we decided to try Carvers even though it is a 45 min drive from coastal north county. Loved the "old" steakhouse ambiance. (getting tired of this new, cold atmosphere that other restaurants are putting in). We have been back twice since. Took parents back for Tuesdays special. Everyone raved about the food. I only wish they had a location closer."

The staff makes every effort to make the dining experience a pleasant one. The steaks are very flavorful and the sides are varied and ample. It is wonderful that a choice of salads come with the dinner as well as a potato. The Calamari appetizer is one of the best we have had. It is a very nice place to celebrate a special occasion or just to come for a reasonably quiet dinner. I would definitely recommend Carvers. "

  • "We stayed overnight in Rancho Bernardo to escape the Sunday morning gridlock in San Diego with the Rock and Roll Marathon. We wanted to find a nearby restaurant for a nice dinner that included seafood choices. In spite of having a hard time finding the restaurant (tucked behind a Starbucks in a large shopping center), we were pleasantly surprised to find that, even though this is a steakhouse, their somewhat limited seafood choices were excellent. Decent wine list, friendly staff, great food, reasonable prices - what else could you ask for?"

  • "We had requested a table and area for a 50th Birthday and anniversary celebration and even thought the restaurant was not crowded they did not seat us at the requested table that was vacant and I had to demand to be seated there. They never once mentioned either our anniversary or the 50th birthday. The food was just average and certainly nothing to really enjoy nor desire to return. What a waste of an evening."

  • "We recently dined at Carver's on a Tuesday night to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We were able to try the Tuesday special for the Prime Rib and Filet and they were both excellent! I like the smaller portions for the meal and the service was fabulous! We will definitely be returning."

  • "Carver's used to be a nice restaurant, but the building is seriously rundown. Don't know if it isn't making money and the owners can't do any repairs or updating or they just take the money and run. Duct tape is the repair of choice...for flooring, windows, etc. The food is still expensive but the quality is not there anymore. The Caesar salad wasn't cold and it was mostly Romaine ribs. The cream of spinach soup was lukewarm with a film starting to form on it, was too thick and had very little spinach in it. The New York steak was tough and the sauce was mediocre. The filet was pretty tender and tasty, but the vegetables with it were skimpy, unattractive and boring. This restaurant needs a new owner with deep pockets and good taste."

  • "The food was delicious. My girlfriend had Whiskey Peppercorn New York Strip with Garlic Mashed Potatoes & Wedge Salad I had a 11oz Filet with Au Gatun Potatoes & Wedge Salad. Desert she had Mud Pie and I had White Chocolate Raspberry Cheese Cake. Phenomenal!!! The service was the right amount of service and the right amount of privacy. This is now a date night favorite."

  • "We booked Mother's Day early afternoon and starting with reservation (which I changed headcount 4 times)they were very accommodating. We were 12 people and wanted to be seated in the sunroom since restaurant is rather dark. Our server, Adam, was pleasant and despite being a busy holiday, our service was excellent. Prime Rib was delicious, stuffed halibut was moist and tasty. Avoid crab stuffed mushrooms. They were covered in thick, gooey cheese. Portion sizes are large so many of us took home leftovers. Desserts were big enough to share. Bonus is that this restaurant is quiet so even on a busy holiday we were able to enjoy conversation at our table. "

  • "This restaurant was a bit of a surprise. First, while in a shopping center, it was hard to find - we had to resort to our GPS. Second, the exterior is old and not particularly well maintained. Third, the interior is very dated and rather unappealing. While the outside temperature was in the 90's, the inside fireplace was roaring ablaze! Even with these negative beginnings, the food was topnotch particularly the prime rib. Our dinner was quite reasonably priced given the quality and quantity provided. Finally, the service left something to be desired as our original waiter was pulled off our table to attend to a larger group."
