  • "This was our 2nd visit this year, and it couldn't have been more different. The restaurant was busy, and the waitstaff over-extended, but that’s no excuse for the sloppy service – cutlery thrown on the table, no update on why our meal took 1.5 hours to arrive. For a place that prides itself in steak, 2 of ours were not properly cooked. Even after sending back a steak that was well undercooked (raw instead of med rare), when it came back cooked medium, the waiter tried to put the blame on us, insisting that in future it should be ordered properly. But it wasn't just the steak..the mashed potatoes were lumpy (think raw potatoes mashed into cooked ones). Our Jan trip was great, but we won’t be going back again after this 1 star experience."

I selected the venue for a special occasion with my boyfriend based on the high reviews, particularly about the warm and friendly service. Upon arrival my first impression was that the décor was horribly dated and it was ill lit. Despite the fact there were many open tables we were seated next to a large party of fifteen or more who were very loud and boisterous. Our server while being friendly barely made his appearance known, it was frustrating, me and my boyfriend had only managed to order one drink from starters until our bill. The food was well cooked but aside from the meat lacked any flavour, I can prepare undressed asparagus for myself. I receive better meals at The Keg."

  • "This was our 3rd visit and the second with poor service. It starts out great, then the restaurant becomes very busy and we are forgotten. They are clearly under staffed. Also have issues with payment at the end. Paying with gift cards seems to be an issue with them. ( long frustrating story)"

  • "We came to Carvers many years ago to celebrate my birthday...it was an expensive meal, but well worth it for the excellent meal, the delicious cheesecake and the charming waiter. Since my husband was going to miss our 10th anniversary, I decided to take him back there for a surprise. This time we were taken into the corner by the doors to the kitchen, despite the restaurant being mostly empty. I guess it could have been construed as romantic, but for a people watcher it was torture. Our waiter was solicitous until it was time for the cheque, then we waited quite a while. The food was, as we expected, amazing; everything cooked and sauced to perfection. The dessert and wine lists are on iPad. I hope the whole menu will be too, next time..."

But we found it pricey considering the service was a bit amateurish, and the decor was very hotely. The service was good, but there were no extra touches like describing the food, no amuse bouche, no conversation. not really any smiles - just not as high-class as you would expect for the money."

Only mishap: the wine I ordered was not what was brought to the table, and given I said "yes" to opening the bottle, we ended up paying for a more expensive bottle of wine. Not the waiter's fault as I should have caught that he picked the wrong bottle ... but to complain about the additional $10 for such a good meal, no a big deal."

The service was excellent and the food did not disappoint. The food was cooked perfectly and tasted great. I finished off the evening with the strawberry shortcake - it was delicious!   • "We had a lovely meal, albeit a lot busier than we would have liked, however, since our Anniversary is in December, when it is Christmas Party season, we have learnt to accept that this is the normal situation at this time of year. We were disappointed when told that the caesar salad could not be made for us, as the gentleman doing this was just too busy to fit a party of two into his schedule, since the salad is made at the table. The Brushetta was to die for. The steaks were wonderful and cooked to perfections. The wine was expensive but good. The dessert menu was a little sad though and our dessert was very ordinary looking, as were most of the choices. However, we had a great meal overall and would go back again for a special occasion."

If your at a hotel in the North East of Calgary near the airport and have a business dinner where you want to impress your clients. Carvers fits. the bill."

  • "While the food was nice and the menu was good. The service was very slow as it seems the restaurant was understaffed and the kitchen clearly over whelmed. Our food had been delivered to us after a lengthy stay under the heat lamps. Hate that. Hostess had to clear dishes. It all took so long we skipped desert. The room is not cozy at all. I find this very unlike a steak house. Not romantic if that's what your thinking or hope in for. I would come again for the food as it is good quality for the price but keep my fingers crossed that Carvers is properly staffed for the evening."

  • "This was a special occasion for us however our waiter did seem to rush us and when replacing cutlery or serving, did not set but rather almost threw on table. Felt like we were intruding on him and expected an over the top service experience from the reviews we read. 2 of the steaks were not cooked as requested but rather than complain to not create further problems we tried to make it work. Disappointing as we travelled and booked to celebrate a very special occasion to find not what we hoped it would be."

  • "My daughter's birthday was celebrated in style this year at Carver's Steakhouse at the Sheraton. We started with cocktails from the iPad wine list. This is a creative idea, however, once you've made your selection they take it away - removing the option of referring back to it for after dinner drinks and/or dessert. Then we had the Ceasar salad for two. Made at the table while you watch, the server offered to adjust the dressing recipe to accomodate any allergies/preferences. Our entrees were cooked perfectly as usual, portions were generous and the service was beyond excellenct.What we enjoyed most was the relaxed dining atmosphere. No rushing us through our meal courses - in fact, the patient style of serving made us want to stay longer!!"
