Diner Reviews
  • "We have been to Carsons several times and they did not disappoint this time. Service was prompt, friendly and professional. The food was very good. The only item that was not outstanding was the prime rib. I ordered medium rare but instead was served an end cut that was medium to medium well. It was still pretty good but not what I ordered. We had brought in a cake to celebrate a birthday and the server handled this very graciously."

  • "Enjoyed getting together with a couple we have not gone out with before. It was a great dinner, and we happened to be on a Saturday when they were offering bottles of wine half off. That was great also."

  • "Nice menu selections, great wine selections. Overall a very positive experience. We were there for dinner before a play at UM."

  • "My wife and I really liked the service and food here. The filet mignon was an outstanding cut of meat. They always have cooked my fish perfectly and not overdone. They did not disappoint me with a beautiful piece of swordfish. We also had the Brussel sprouts made with some chopped pecans and garnished with some shaved parmesan as an appetizer, which were delicious. The bottled wines were half off on Saturday, so we took advantage. Yum."

  • "the server did not give good service at all. it took her long to bring our orders, we got wrong orders, the food, bread and coleslaw all came at the same time, the dessert for the birthday person didnt come until 5 minutes after the rest of ours came, the server never came to check to see whether we liked the food or desserts, we needed condiments and had to flag down a different server after trying to catch the attention of ours for a long time, our leftovers were left unpacked on the table for a long time and then hastily thrown into the to-go boxes. am definately not going back any time soon"

  • "had an 8:30 reservation but got lost and bad weather, so didn't get there until 9:30. they sat us right away because they were very slow. service was great! TIM was very attentive and personable. had good suggestions. crabcakes were superb. corn chowder very good. prime rib closer to medium than med-rare, but good! baked potato was cool. another one brought and it was hot!! chicken schnitzel almost too buttery if you can imagine! will return!!!"

  • "The weather Thursday morning was atrocious. Carson's is right around the corner from us. It offered a welcome break from the grey and white that was later followed by wind and rain. We too often overlook the quality of Carson's to go farther afield to see what else Ann Arbor has to offer."

  • "We were recommended to come here by a friend. We enjoyed everything very much -- the food, the ambiance, the beer on tap. Just a really great place!"

  • "I was very surprised to find the place crowded on a Monday night. Everything we tried was great! The white fish appetizers was sooo good, with some kind of avocado jalapeno sauce on it. I wish I could get the recipe for that. I had fish tacos for my meal and a cup of corn chowder , both really delicious. My husband got a burger made to order and he was very happy. We recently had a rehearsal dinner held there and everyone was thrilled with their meals . They have a little room that's off by itself for a private feel, perfect. My daughter had the grilled orange pound cake for dessert with nutella mousse! wow wow wow!"

  • "Never even heard of this place before I came upon it on Yelp. Figured I would give it a shot. Took my girlfriend here to enjoy a valentines day dinner and it was great. Waitress was nice, and the food was delicious. The tablet menus were a cool bonus, very informative. Would definetly recommend."

  • "My boyfriend and I were late to the reservations game and ended up taking a 5:15 at Carson's, even though we'd never been before. I was nervous that it wouldn't feel "nice," but we really enjoyed our experience. The restaurant's look is classy but not fancy. The food was delicious -- we ordered a VDay special that gave us bruschetta (lovely), salad, prime rib and crab cakes. The meat was fabulous and the sides were excellent. I particularly liked that their bread had caramelized onions in/on it. Yum! We had a dessert (grilled pound cake with nutella mousse) that gets an A for originality and a B for execution. I will definitely go back to Carson's some time soon."

  • "My wife and I had a nice dinner. They had a special for couples but we went with some of our favorites off the menu and we were pleased. It was very busy this night but reservation was well managed. We will be back."

  • "The menu has a little something for everyone. Great, timely service and extremely good salmon. We had a very enjoyable time and really liked the tablet menus...made dinner selection easier to make and a great visual aid!"

  • "The food was prompt and spectacular: tender & juicy chicken, creamy & flavorful mashed potatoes, and amazing caramelized onion bread! The place was pretty cool with dim lighting, antler chandeliers, and a fireplace when you first walk in. The service was not great. We saw the server only a handful of times as other workers greeted us, brought us the food, cleared the dishes. My dish came with the wrong sauce (lemon butter instead of honey mustard) and it took a while to even flag our server down to request the correct sauce, who then replaced with, drum roll please, the SAME SAUCE. Comical yet frustrating. I give a great overall rating because service isn't always a good indicator of a great restaurant. Can't wait to eat the leftovers!"

  • "I was a bit surprised. Food was pretty good. Our waitress was great though. Totally surprised at that. Better than some very expensive restaurants we've been to. I'd go back."

  • "Carsons beat out Mediterrano. Carsons was my 2nd favorite of the three restaurants that I attended during restaurant week. Somehow I mistakenly gave your review to Mediterrano. I only visited Carsons one other time, but I would return for that potato leek puree. It was exceptionable!"

  • "Hi, there were five of us at a table, which was big enough, but was too close to other tables. the staff had trouble serving everyone, without bumping into others. I noticed that there were other tables available were there was more room for everyone. thanks"

  • "We don't like loud places to celebrate New Year's Eve, so Carson's was perfect. We enjoyed our dinner with our friends, and never felt rushed by the staff. The food was excellent, the service friendly and professional."

  • "My wife and I made reservations for dinner on New Years Eve. Our table was ready when we arrived and although noticeably crowded we were approached by our server quickly. This my third visit to Carson's and I must admit that based on other New Years dining experiences I have had at other places I was worried. As it turned out my worries soon vanished. We had a delightful server and a full menu to choose from as well as fair pricing. For the quality of food you receive Carson's has to be one of the best.restaurants I have dined at. Not just in Ann Arbor but anywhere. I had the blackened Tilapia and my wife had the perch. Both were great. Love their blue cheese cole slaw. Deliciously different. We will be back again soon."

  • "ENCOUNTERED QUITE A FEW PROBLEMS/ISSUES... MANAGER [PATRICK] WAS VERY ACCOMODATING AND RESOLVED ISSUES IMMEDIATELY. fyi...don't get seated in the bar area if you're looking for a nice dining experience."

  • "Our family of 4 came to savor the delights of Carson's - 1st time visit - we live locally. Very pleasant experience, great food and low noise, we could actually hear one another at the table! The sliders were excellent and melted in the mouth. The ribs were delicious! The pecan chicken was nutty and moist, a real treat! We all shared the peanut butter pie for desert to round off a delightful evening. Our server could have been more welcoming and warmer, a little too aloof for our liking. Also, it took about 20 - 25 minutes to receive our food after ordering; the delay was surprising since the restaurant was not particularly busy. However, the quality of our dishes was outstanding and we intend to return!"

  • "I made reservations for a faculty recruit interview luncheon requesting a quitet area. However, the place was crowded and very noisy. The wait for a server was an hour and a half. One interviewer had to leave without lunch because the wait for service was extremely long. I wish I would have been told that my request couldn't be honored during this time, I gladly would have made reservations elsewhere."

  • "We are always pleasantly surprised by our dining experience Carson's. The food quality is definitely above-average and the waitstaff is well trained. This time I tried the Blackened Tilapia with mango/avocado salsa and it was excellent!"

  • "We didn't realize that this restaurant was even there but decided to try due to it's great location for accessing 23. We enjoyed everything about it, from the flavorful, delicious food to the service and atmosphere. We went with friends who all stated their enjoyment as well. Will definitely recommend as well as return for another visit."

  • "Carson's was a great choice for a couple of pescatarians, we loved the salmon and telapia. In addition to the food the service was prompt, courteous and attentive while giving me and my date plenty of space to talk and enjoy the meal. We liked the tablet menus and look forward to some of the other meals that we were able to look at. We enjoyed our time at Carson's"

  • "Carson's on Plymouth Road is a good choice for football weekends in Ann Arbor. The menu is varied and interesting, the service pleasant and the ambiance casual. You can get pretty much anything you want here, and it's not as crowded as the joints on Main Street after a football game. Ribs are always good here; as are most other items."

  • "We came upon Carson's American Bistro a couple of years ago, as we moved back to the Ann Arbor area. It replaced another restaurant (Cooker), and Carson's is one of the Main Street Venture restaurants. Our server this evening (Ramya V.) was fantastic. The menus are on electronic tablets, so price, description, and a picture are available for each item. The prices really aren't that steep (my blackened tilapia was only 17.00, which I thought a bargain, given the portion size). We all had dessert. The restaurant is just a few minutes from our home - there is plenty of parking - a great feature, since parking downtown is always a challenge."

  • "I depressed to order the fish instead of the pecan encrusted chicken and was very disappointed. I was even still hungry after,I had to finish the bread off and stop on the way home for something else to eat. My friend got the pecan chicken and it was delicious!"
