CARPE VINO SERVES PERSONS 21 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER (YES...EVEN THOUGH WE SERVE DINNER). Located in what was originally a Civil War-era saloon in the heart of Old Town Auburn, Carpe Vino offers a unique setting for relishing great wine and stellar cuisine. Enjoy wine and dinner at the "Mary Pickford" wine bar with selections from all over California, or relax in our elegant dining room, surrounded by racks of wine.

Carpe Vino's innovative menu is California themed yet French-inspired. We offer fine dining tempered by our Old West heritage, with many core ingredients sourced from local farmers whom we know by name.

The menu changes virtually weekly, with new selections added based on farmer's market availability. Upwards of 40 wines are available by the glass; since Carpe Vino has a substantial wine shop business, bottles opened in the building are priced at retail plus $5.

  • "Hey, this place serves really good food! A little noisy, a wee bit lacking in the decor department, but the meals produced and presented are just excellent. The hummus appetizer, the corn soup, beet salad, lamb meatballs, duck, ravioli, halibut and finally peach profiteroles left our group of four happy, happy, happy, and happy. Could the ambience be better? Yes, but isn't it the food we can't cook at home what we go to restaurants for? Hard to imagine you can do better in Placer County... Or Nevada County for that matter."

  • "Carpe Vino isn't a restaurant you'd expect to find in a foothills town like Auburn. San Fran, maybe. Or even New York. The food and service are at that level. But how lucky are we to have this jewel so close to home. This time around the staff and food were simply at their best. Paul, our waiter, was wonderful, recommending a bottle of wine that we loved after first listening to our preferences. We ordered two appetizers, a salad, and just one entree to split between us. We had the fried green tomatoes, the lamb meatballs, the beet salad, then the white bass. Oh my....I love food. I love good food. I've traveled the world. But, man, this was one of the best meals in my life. Perfect tastes in the perfect order. Heaven!"

The staff was friendly and treated my daughter-n-law's special needs (pregnancy) with kindness and understanding. Great overall experience. Great food and service. Their menu is sensational and it's the first time we both decide to try something we usually don't eat. I had the pork chop and my husband tried the lamb, which was so tender it was falling apart as he scooped up with his fork. We shared and were both blown away. So, that we've decided to make it our monthly date place. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and family."

  • "We enjoy Chef Eric Alexander's creations each time we dine at Carpe Vino. He is the best Chef we have come across; we, therefore, keep coming back for more of his deliciously prepared meals. His mussels preparation is to "die for." And we had a chilled corn soup that was beyond outstanding! Paul, our server, is always so attentive to our needs and helpful in wine selections. Our favorite restaurant for food, service, and friendliness!"

  • "Our dinner was amazing! Our waiter treated us like family. He suggested a few appetizers that we normally would not have tried, but were delicious. My wife and I had caeser salad that had to be one of the best I've ever had, but the sockeye salmon entree was simply unbelievable! The flavor and preparation are still memorable two days later. I love when my expectations are so far exceeded."

  • "Not my first visit to CV, but I screwed up trying to add another person to my party using the reservation system; as a result, the confirmation that came the date before my dinner was one person short. I called the restaurant and was told that they were fully booked. Not wanting to dis-invite my guest or cancel my reservation, I called again and this time the person on the phone checked with the restaurant manager who graciously said they would accommodate my extra person. My birthday celebration was a success! The highlights were the prosecco by the glass, the lamb merquez, the borscht and the asadao-style beef, and both desserts...food of the prix-fixe World Cup theme. Another excellent visit to Carpe Vino!"

  • "This was our first time at Carpe Vino to dine, we've stopped in for a glass of wine and snacks before. We had heard the place has great food and we weren't disappointed. The food was excellent, the service was excellent (even though we had a trainee), and the ambience was excellent. We'll make this one of our go to date night places. Their wines are sold at retail + $5 corkage which makes eating at a five star establishment affordable for us vinos. Plus they have a great selection of wine and took time walking me around to find the right bottle."

  • "My partner and I had a wonderful meal this last Sunday at Carpe Vino. Not much of a crowd (Memorial Day) so the energy level was low but the food was fantastic. We had the Lamb Meatballs for the appetizer...outstanding! We followed that up with the Arugula & Fava Bean salad and the duck...all courses were spot on. The service was wonderful too - Brittany was attentive yet not intrusive. We can highly recommend the Val 'd Oca Prosecco...paired nicely with the spiciness of the lamb meatballs and salad!"

  • "Carpe Vino is a great place for dinner. The food was outstanding and the wine list was to die for. I had the roasted baby beet salad (the best I ever had) and the Alaskan Halibut. My wife had the romaine heart caesar salad and the spiced duck breast. Our service was excellent. Our server was also wine savvy and recommended a wonderful Pinot Noir. There were two negatives: 1) the restaurant is noise when full populated; and, 2) The portion of halibut I receive for $32 was absurd (I must have gotten all of 2 to 3 ounces). While the halibut was excellent I would not order it again because of the portion size. "

  • "Unfortunately we chose a week when they were doing a special menu and were not able to order off the regular menu. Not our type of food, good but not our thing. Somehow, even with making a reservation weeks in advance, we always seem to get seated in a dark area in the back of the dining rooms. People that come in later get better seats, even though we asked to be moved. Our waitress was excellent as was the wine. But, we will think twice about dining here again."

  • "Went to Carpe Vino with my wife, daughter and Mother for Mom's day, the food was good except the beef filet was not good at all, my wife and I had the lamb, it was perfect! My daughter had the halibut, it was good but maybe 4oz's. Over all it was a good dinner, appetizer's were good wine list was great. I understand fine dinning and am a foodie but most likely won't be back for dinner, but with the nice wine list/price I'd hang out at the bar and have some wine and munchies. BTW service was spot on! "

  • "Best restaurant in Auburn for fine dining, hands down. Great food, epic wines, and the staff acts like adults (they don't sugar coat their statements). Found our favoite bottle of Zinfandel for a full $20 less than it can be found elsewhere in town, as well. No kids were there, which was probably the best part of all. We were able to enjoy our meal withiout listening to the normally present cranky kid that most restaurants have. If only there were a movie theatre with the same 21+ restriction..."

  • "Excellent presentation, modest choices but more than sufficient, anyone would find a meal to put together, hundreds of wines through a Kindle loaned to the table, but more than adequate list on the menu. Drawbacks include poor acoustics (which make the place noisy) and somewhat slow service (a four course meal took about 2 hours)"

  • "I hesitate to rave about Carpe Vino because we want to be able to get a reservation! But, I will. The food is excellent - prepared by a chef who was trained at the CIA in Hyde Park, NY. It not only tastes delicious, it also is presented beautifully. The dishes are "different" from other restaurants. You won't find food prepared the same way anywhere else. The service is excellent, no matter who is serving. Seating is limited. If crowded, it can be a bit noisy."
