Carolina's RestaurantWorth a visitCarolinas was a wonderful dining experience. We went there for a Mother's Day brunch and enjoyed ourselves completely. The food was delicious bringing a unique touch to each dish, be it tomato soup or fried calamari.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMCarolina's on my mindWe had a great Mother's Day Brunch. Food, service all excellent. We have returned to Carolina's several times and it is a regular when we visit Charleston.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunchGreat food & our server made it great!! Miranda was not only helpful but very pleasant .5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFood quality uneven amongFood quality uneven among four customers. Chicken - pretty good; crabs - need improvement4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nice owner who is veryVery nice owner who is very involved. He cares about his resturant. Staff is well trained and knowledgable. Loved the food.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMMy daughter and I thoroughlyMy daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed Carolina's brunch. I made the reservation as a surprise for her. We live out of state, but visit often. She'd seen the menu online and wanted to try the pancakes. I had a crab cake Benedict. Both of our meals were excellent. The service was friendly and prompt. The only reason I didn't rate the service higher was that our waiter never told us about the specials. We only knew about them from overhearing them from another table. I also had an excellent mimosa.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecialty cocktails were excellent.Specialty cocktails were excellent. Wine list is adequate...for a restaurant with a significant emphasis on seafood, the white wine list beyond Chardonnay (...there really are great wines beyond Chardonnary) is very, very limited. The shrimp and grits was only adequate (in a town for which shrimp and grits is a "religious" experience)....the andouille tasted like polish sausage (really?). The soft shell crabs and sides were totally AWESOME! The crabs were perfectly cooked (and cleaned!) and the veggies were truly inspired. Definitely worth a try....just have shrimp and grits elsewhere. Our service was impeccable. Attentive but not overbearing...and great command of the menu.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSunday evening my wife andSunday evening my wife and I enjoyed a wonderful casual meal. The waitress. Was helpful and everything she suggested was right on, but we waited another half an hour between our appetizers and entrees.
Wonderful food but dinner ending at 10:30 is a bit late for us.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMoverpriced wine list, otherwiseoverpriced wine list, otherwise a great restaurant with wonderful service4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and atmosphere wereThe food and atmosphere were excellent. My husband has a slight hearing loss and with the padded velveteen walls he had a very hard time carrying on a conversation. Not a good room for us. Would definitetly go back!!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing! What a marvelous surprise to find such a gem ion a quiet street in fabulous Charleston! The food was outstanding. Every dish we ordered was unique and creative and delicious. Everything from the fresh warm crusty bread to the delicious coffee. I always judge a restaurant by it's bread, scallops and coffee and they were all perfect. We enjoyed the food and service so much that we returned two days later for another meal (after canceling another reservation). Of course the food was amazing just like the first time. We told our server to tell Chef Jill Mathias to go on Iron Chef America - she is good enough to be a master.if you live in Charleston or plan to visit, go to Carolina's!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThe shrimp and grits wereThe shrimp and grits were heavenly. Will return when back in Charleston.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat FindWe ate out at nice Charleston restaurants for a week straight and Carolina's was the only one we ate at twice. The decor and atmosphere are really nice. The service was warm and attentive - the waiter even acknowledged our return later in the week. I had the tilefish one night. Never trying it before I was really impressed. The scallops are perfectly prepared and the pan roasted Keegan-Filion chicken was one of the most exceptional chicken dishes I have ever had. The bar is nice too and they know how to make some nice cocktails. With all of the well known restaurants in Charleston, this one seems highly underrated.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWith the Bibb salad, the scallopsWith the Bibb salad, the scallops entree or the shrimp and grits, and the pecan brittle basket dessert, you cannot go wrong!! We will be back next time we are in Charleston for sure.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat lunch! We went to Carolina's because we had a gift certificate to use at one of several restaurants. We are really glad that we chose Carolina's for lunch!
My grits with shrimp were great! By far the best that I had while in the South.
The dessert that I really didn't have room for was equally good - a pecan sauced ice cream confection that was unbelievable! I wish that I could remember the details, but it was several weeks ago.
The next time we visit Charleston we will definitely go to Carolina's for dinner. and, maybe for lunch, too!3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting location on theInteresting location on the waterfront in Charleston -- was a horse stable way back when - has been "remodeled" into a lovely restaurant. Best S & G we've had in while. Relaxing on a busy day.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was surprisinglyThe food was surprisingly good, the service excellent and the wine list extensive. The decor however was very strange, fake flower arrangements, chandeliers that weren't in keeping, but I'd still recommend it.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service was top notch.Food and service was top notch.
