  • "We stayed at the Carolina Inn for a romantic anniversary weekend and ate at Crossroads, the in-house restaurant, for both dinner and Sunday brunch. The dinner menu emphasizes local meats and produce and features creative versions of classic North Carolina dishes. The ambience was quiet and romantic, with candlelight, orchids, and fresh flowers and an elegant table setting (but lots of Carolina blue everywhere!). The server was friendly and had excellent timing. The dinner dishes exceeded our expectations, and the brunch was the best we've ever had. The service was excellent; the only reason we gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that our server passed us off to another server as we were finishing dinner, without letting us know."

  • "We have dined at Crossroads several times for special occasions and found it nothing short of exceptional. We invited a few friends telling them what a great dining experience it has been in the past. When I saw the menu I barely understood what the dishes were, and had to have the server explain to us what the titles of the dishes meant. It was a very strange menu. I understand trying new items, but it was hard to find something I would like to eat. I finally decided on the Tuna appetizer and there was 90% plate and 10% food, and it wasn't very tasty. We had the fish special, whose name I cant remember, and it was okay, very short of exceptional. If we ever decide to come back, I will make sure we check the menu before doing so."

  • "The Carolina Inn is as you would expect in Chapel Hill: stately, easy, unhurried, and charming. Service is thoughtful. The Sunday brunch buffet, however, was a mixed serving; which makes one suspect that the Sunday's they don't buffet make for a better choice. To be sure, there is ample food and some of it is quite good. The made-to-order omelets were superb, if not terribly creative, and the ratatouille was just right. Fried Chicken (which should have been spectacular here) was just OK; the asparagus was steamed to olive green and the key lime pie a disappointment We'll go back, but not for the buffet."

  • "I had dinner there. It was a suck experience. Only a few choices, I ordered the large size dishes, but, it is only a little food that I can eat. However, the price is very very expensive!!!!!!!I will never go back to have dinner there again! And will tell all my friend not go to there!"

  • "As a vegan, I have a hard time finding place they do interesting food. Tends to be pasta or traditional mushrooms or eggplant or something pretty boring. I hate both mushrooms and eggplant. When I let the chef know we were thinking of cancelling b/c eggplant and mushrooms were on the menu, the chef responded within an hour to say they had plenty of veggies. WELL, did they indeed! I had a truly spectacular breaded blossoms, gorgeous sauces, fresh beans, and more than I can recount. They even brought me vegan bread. I am so incredibly impressed each and every time I go to the Carolina Crossroads. The wine, the service, the food, the ambiance: WOW. Utterly and completely Wow. And so personal."

  • "Breakfast items offered at brunch were custom omelets, fruit. No grits, muffins, toast, or biscuits...only quartered pita and crackers. Lunch items were mediocre at best. Grilld chic breast, mahi mahi in cream sauce, flank steak and lots of fillers: corn chowder, red potato slices, corn salad. Only thing special were the hart de cote vert. Was hoping for cold seafood, there was none. Desserts were plentiful, flourless chocolate cake stood out. Service was superlative, welcoming and efficient. Have had very nice dinners here, skip brunch."

  • "Could not find fault with the service. Waitstaff was on the ball. Our food was excellent - tasty and elegantly presented. My only complaint is the serving portion. I ordered the chef's creation - pan roasted drum on a bed of wilted greens. First off, I could not stand huge portion of food on my plate, but this one had two very small slices of drum fillet - two tail ends at that (where's the middle and top portion of the fish?). And the greens, wow - you would think they were of rare variety that they had to use it sparingly. My plate looked so pathetic and at $26, better off eating at the Lantern on Franklin St. My son ordered a plate of tuna carpaccio as appetizer, for $14 he got three tiny slices. "

  • "The surroundings are beautiful and enjoyed reading about the history of the Carolina Inn. The staff was very friendly and professional, if occasionally a little too talkative. Unfortunately, the food wasn't as good as expected to be. It was o.k., but expected something more for the price and reputation of the Inn. Surprised that in a southern restaurant such as this there were no biscuits or grits! The only "bread" to speak of was a mini-waffle. Not sure if I'd go back."

  • "Carolina Crossroads has great food and ambiance. The out door patio which was lovely. The soft Shell crab was fantastic. The service is lacking a little. Our main server was fine however the support staff needs training. It starts at the front door. The valet parks the car and you walk in to a big lobby with no one there to great or direct you to the restaurant. It's too the left and down a few hallways. The hostess was seating another couple and it took her 5-6 minutes to get back to the front desk. A server came up and said the hostess would be with us shortly but it took a while. Wine was never refilled by a server or service staff. Plates were presented by food runners upside down."

We appreciated the breads and butter, and the crackers served with the cheese platter were very appealing. Desserts also were excellent. Perhaps music might have been a nice addition, but overall a very memorable and lovely experience. We are looking forward to a return visit."

Made me wish I was on a date but my friend is good company too! My only complaint is the drinks we ordered were too strong so we sent it back and had them make it again and it was better."

We enjoyed their new menu with the small plates - with an appetizer, it was just the right amount of food.....and it also left room for dessert! We have never been disappointed with our meals at Carolina Crossroads."

  • "We have dined at Crossroads a number of times over the years and invariably have found the experience to be excellent; the current visit was no exception. The atmosphere was welcoming and warm. The service was attentive but not intrusive and was very well paced - a key feature for those who were attending a Memorial Hall concert later that evening. The food was very good. My wife loved the seared scallops with a butternut squash and bacon ragout and a fennel relish - all the flavors blended together well. I had a roasted beet and kale salad which was excellent. This was followed by "trout" and "shrimp and grits" and then a "bread pudding" all of which we enjoyed."

  • "My husband booked a table for two at the Carolina Inn to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we both had a lovely evening. The restaurant is very pretty, lovely cream and blue colouring, and the waiting staff are great. I had a very nice non-alcoholic cocktail, which was a nice change from my normal choice of coke or juice! The menu was great and I was very pleased to find that the restaurant uses as many local sources as possible. There was some dinner jazz playing in the background, just loud enough to hear but not so loud that it disturbed conversation. My husband's steak arrived a little cooler than he would have liked but the kitchen warmed it up nicely and we were given a discount on our bill. The desserts were fantastic."

He was attentive, but not overly and exuded the type of southern charm that makes you feel at home. The manager, Carlos, was also a pleasure and made sure our night went off without a hitch.   • "The restaurant is lovely, as is the hotel. The servers are attentive and polite, though kind of stiff. A basket of bread and butter comes as part of your meal. We shared Caesar salad. I thought it was a bit sour. For lunch, my husband got the shrimp and grits (large size, which wasn't all that large), and I got the chicken pot pie with biscuits (it was really just the innards of a chicken pot pie with two biscuits on top). Dessert was the most disappointing - expensive and pretty good, but with very small portions. If you are a dessert person, don't eat here. If ambiance and attentive service is the most important thing to you, come here. If the quality of your food in relation to price is, go somewhere else."

  • "We've chosen the Carolina Crossroads on other occasions including a family Christmas brunch so we were prepared for the excellent food and service. Wonderful food -- great selection, delicious, and beautiful. Our table was taken care of very well with coffee and water refreshed frequently and dishes removed promptly. Everything was great until time to check out. The wait person delivered our checks with an explanation that an 18% gratuity was automatically added to bills when there is a request to split the bill (2 couples = 2 bills is not an uncommon request). An 18% mandatory gratuity for splitting a check (and for a buffet) is not something we've ever encountered and we will certainly think twice before returning to this restaurant."

  • "This was our first time to the Carolina Inn and we had heard that they had a wonderful brunch. We were greeted as soon as we arrived. The manager David, came over to introduce himself and to inquire as so how we had heard about this restaurant. The items on the brunch were delicious and not the normal things that you would see on a brunch table. We tried the cajun blackened catfish, the braised short ribs and the coq au vin to name a few. All the desserts were scratch made and I think my favorite was the lemon pie. I would definitely return to this restaurant and would highly recommend it."
