A word from Carnivale
Carnivale is a reflection of Latin culture and community, as passionate as the people themselves. The soulful cuisine allows you to explore the dishes of Cuba, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, El Salvador, and Mexico. The kaleidoscope of colors, music and playful décor ignites the sense of being in a Latin house party. Executive Chef Rodolfo Cuadros supports the Green City Market and uses as many local, sustainable ingredients as possible out of concern for the environment and community. Carnivale is the perfect location for your lunch, dinner, birthday, anniversary, wedding or corporate event. Carnivale has hosted exciting events such as Oprah’s “Color Purple” release party, the “Batman: The Dark Night Returns” wrap party and a private event with John Legend. Carnivale is located in Chicago’s West Loop, just off the expressway and close to downtown. It's also a quick CTA ride from Michigan Ave, Navy Pier or the Art Institute of Chicago. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant is great! It has all 3 components, Great Food, Vibrant Ambiance, and Well Priced. We have lived and traveled all over the world and this place is on our top ten list. Now living in Chicago, we will be returning Alot! My husband and friends were totally against trying this restaurant and now they are planning a private party for celebrating 2 different events! This place is a winner!!!"

  • "This restaurant was recommended by a friend. We took out some relatives who were in town for the weekend and I made reservations on line. I tried to get the reservation at 6:30 but it was already booked. Since we were already on route to the hotel to pick up my relatives I took my chances and booked the reservations for 5:30 and I called the restaurant direct and was able to change the time to 6:00. We made it on time and got our food in a timely manner."

  • "The meal and drinks were hard to beat and we loved the decor but our waiter disappeared on us halfway through the night."

  • "Love the décor. Server was very knowledgeable and patient-Kate(?). Delicious food-ordered wild mushroom coca flatbread, Australian lamb rack, Pappardelle. Flatbread crisper than I prefer."

  • "My boyfriend and I went here on a double date. We were impressed by the size and location of the restaurant. The food was amazing! Everything we tried was so good that we ate off of eachother's plates! I had the Carnivale Martini which was really good, and my boyfriend was impressed with the beer selection. Our waiter was helpful with the menu, and was always attentive, even after our bill was paid, but never rushed us. We were there for two and a half hours taking our time, and his service never faulted the entire evening. Overall, I would highly recommend Carnivale to anyone!!!"

  • "Lunch prices were high compared to selection of food, food was mediocre. Will not be visiting here again."

  • "April 8, 2014 This spot never fails to meet expectations. From the bright-bright decor to ebullient waitstaff and food, everything is pleasing. Our party decided to dine on shared appetizers only; no entrees. We ordered almost every option on that part of the menu and were pleased with every plate. Octopus and tuna were the most notable, but none of the remainder was less than pleasing. Clearly recommended for special, boisterous occasions and less so for personal, romantic dinners, mainly because of diners attempting to converse/shriek over the din caused by loud piped-in music. That said, I did see two separate couples seemingly engrossed in each other and oblivious to the outside chaos. Go for the fun, but stay for the food."

  • "We had a good time Not to happy with our fish meal. Even their special fish was poor. Would love to go back to have beef there! Stay away from fish! Appetizers were wonderful."

  • "I had my birthday dinner there this past Saturday. What a wonderful experience. Our waiter was amazing so sweet and full of knowledge about all the drinks and dinner options. The restaurant was beautiful such a fun experience. The best part of our whole mini vacation to Chicago"

  • "Overall experience was good, food is a fusion of the Latin world, they had some baby back short ribs with grits, that confused me. Somethings should be left simple, the flavor wasn't what I expected for the orginal. I understand the concept, but like I said leave some things simple. The chocolate cake was to die for, one word- "wow"..Make sure you get this. The occasion was for a friends celebration for her new job, and they surprised her with a cake. Nice job, I really appreciate it. Overall experience was a 4 out of 5. I would come back."

  • "I have heard about this place for awile now, and finally had a chance to dine here. My wife and I had our 4 year old son with us, and we were a little hesitant after reading one review about the environment was not 100% kids friendly. Our reservations were for 5:30pm, and actually, I think it worked out well. We loved all the food! Ropa Vieja to start, that was great. I had the Churrasco and my wfe had the Paella. lovedit. we got the sweet plantains, hit thespot. The drinks were great too: The Bourbon Whisperer, Sangria, Mojito. Our son enjoyed the oversizd organic cotton candy for dessert."

  • "This restaurant is stunning on the inside. I found some of the food to be incredible and other dishes to be just okay. We got the poached shrimp ceviche which was outstanding. We also got the salmon ceviche--kind of bland and was a pile of coconut soaked shredded carrots with a small amount of salmon. App salad and ropa vieja--delish! My husband got the halibut and the fish was cooked nicely and was very tasty, but the accompanying turnips were pretty bland. We got the tres leches cake for dessert and while it tasted great, the presentation was weird. It came out of a can and we thought it was odd that someone would cook cake in a can and serve it to you as if it was chic. Overall, I would definitely go back. I'm just not in a rush..."

  • "Dinner at the Carnivale was a culinary delight in every way - the guacamole was excellent - very fresh and the halibut was excellent. We had fantastic service from a waiter who knew his trade. We will definitely go back when we return to Chicago!"

  • "This was my first visit to Carnivale and I must say I will be returning. The atmosphere is amazing and the sangria is to die for. The food was good, however not as good as I was expecting. Next time I go will probably just be for drinks and apps. The service however is impeccable and again I cannot get over how fun the vibe is there."

  • "I had a terrific time. The server at my table was fantastic. However, the bar back/bartender was quite rude at the end of the night. Very off putting; my date and I had a laugh about his sour-puss face and attitude. The overall experience was still great."

  • "I was with a group of 3 girlfriends. We had a cocktail each, guac app, and a main course. I had the Sea Bass and it was the most magnificent sea food I have ever tasted. The sauce that it was cooked in was incredible. We really enjoyed ourselves."

  • "Bright atmosphere with lots of people. The food was great, especially the Criolli Half Chicken. I loved the Carnivale Martini too. While the bar was crowded without a lot of room to wait for your seating, the dining areas were good with comfortable chairs. Service was good - the waitress weighed in helped me make the right selection. Very enjoyable. Be prepared: attendants in the restroom. It's NOT pronounced carniVALE."

  • "The brunch was great. Food was pretty good, nothing spectacular. The dinner menu is much much better. The brunch experience itself was amazing! The ambiance plus live violin music makes for a very festive experience."

  • "On behalf of my friends and my self. The seating was prompt the waitress was fast and super efficient also knowledgeable about the drinks and food her name is Kate. The food wasn't great too average for the place and expensive for what it was. We order Calamari witch was ok. Guacamole very average and Ceviche. and then our main dishes witch sorry but didn't impress me at all we go out often to restaurants and on service from 1 to 10. I will give them a 10. The drinks were so so the food 5 or less and what was the tipping point the glases and silverware were not that clean. I usually give a great review about the restaurants that we go to. But i can't this time. I am sure they can improve what i see as their downside."

  • "We loved Brunch at Carnivale in part because the ambience is festive, vibrant, and friendly~ and there's live music. What a treat! Offerings are varied and include Latin-influenced dishes, naturally, but also a smattering of American plates for less adventurous palates (eggs, potatoes, english muffin is one plating; pancakes with blueberries is another example). We mixed both and enjoyed the Chilaquiles with lots of tomatillo sauce and some carnitas with its lively flavor. The French Toast was delicious filled with a pineapple-key lime custard and surrounded by fresh berries. If still hungry, banana cream pie can be had. Or Bacon dipped in Ecuadoran chocolate. You choose! Service was warm and attentive. A lovely start to a day."

  • "Carnivale was a fantastic dining experience. The appetizers are more like tapas, which is a great reason to order a couple, and share. Even though the restaurant was packed, the food came out in a timely manner, and the presentation was wonderful. The staff, everyone from the host, bartender, and server, were exceptional and friendly. The only drawback was that we had to wait 15 minutes for a table, even though we had a reservation. I would highly recommend Carnivale for dinner with a date, or a group setting with friends."

  • "It started out great but then our server forgot about us! One drink in 75 minutes... My wifes dinner was overcooked but sever did nothing to fix but say he would tell the Chef. She ordered the same thing as me and mine was fine but hers was very dry! We traveled 50 miles for overpriced poor food and service! Not happy..."

  • "I love coming to Carnivale! Though it can be a little pricy- it's worth it. The food is amazing, the service is fantastic, and the mojitos do not disappoint! This is definitely not an all the time place, but it's worth a visit for a special occasion."

  • "Every other month a group of friends meet for dinner at various restaurants throughout the city. The ones we like th most we always return to. Carnivale was one of those restaurants, the drinks were great and the food was perfectly cooked. Being married to a Chef makes me a little more critical than the average person. I had the Salmon which was perfectly cooked, and very moist. The total experience was very good and I will definitely return."

  • "We went for a late lunch, drove an hour to Carnivale from where we live and was very disappointed that we could not order what we came to order. The only menu available was their brunch menu, could not order off their regular menu. Went at 230/3pm for this and was very upset that we had to order brunch this late. If we wanted brunch food we would have came before noon. Brunch menu looked amazing though if you do go for brunch, I dont eat eggs so it was hard to find something to eat Banana cream pie was AMAZING!!!!! would defintely go back just for that Ceviche was alright, was expecting more to it then just shrimp but it was tasty needless to say."

  • "I went to dinner with my boyfriend and we used the TravelZoo coupon that I bought for $75. The coupon included 2 drinks, 2 appetizers, and 2 entrees. The food was excellent. We both had margaritas which were very good!! We ordered the ropa vieja and calamari for appetizers both were EXCELLENT!! For dinner we had the short ribs and churrasco. OMG!!! The short ribs were amazing! I would go back just to eat them again!! The service was excellent; our waitress was very attentive. We didn't feel like our dinning experience was compromised because we used a coupon."

  • "a real carnival with Cotton candy too! Was having a little reunion with some girls I haven't seen in a while. They were really nice and accommodating (I switched the number of people twice.). Our waitress was sweet didn't mind taking pictures of us even though it was busy. We went at 830 on a Friday night and it was busy but no long wait to be seated. Service was a little slow at first but I didn't mind u could tell they were very busy. I would go back again. The cirole chicken or something like that spelling was amazing. Flan and chocolate cake were good as well."
