Diner Reviews
  • "I love their dinner menu! The lunch menu is not as varied. The food is always excellent!"

  • " Wednesday was our 26th anniversary; we wanted a quiet, romantic setting with great food. We looked at all the excellent restaurants in the Napa/Sonoma area and decided that Carneros has everything we want and is close. We told them it was to be a very small celebration (2) for our anniversary. It was special from the moment we were met by the hostess. We had a perfect table. The sommelier came immediately with an extensive wine list. However, we had brought a bottle of our favorite wine which he cared for and served elegantly. From then our waiter and staff all helped to make this a great experience. The food (a local swordfish) was outstanding. Finishing with creme brûlée. This was special evening thanks to Carneros Bistro and staff."

  • "writer's selection was a delight to eat. Friendly hostess arranged to get me veggies and mushrooms instead of potatoes - which made the big difference for me. The lightly smoked chicken breast was the best I have ever had. Lunch companions were also quite satisfied with their entrees. - Music, not pleasant at all primarily for the more mature ears, was too loud and disturbing. Why not keep it low and just as a fine musical background?"

  • "In the much cooler Sonoma Valley, this down to earth bistro is a great spot for Lodge guests. Steak was well cooked and wine was paired nicely. Staff is willing to go above and beyond, something you won't find in that 'other' valley [napa]..."

  • "After enjoying a great lunch with friends, booked dinner for special night. Started with Sommelier's suggested wine, pinot grigio blend arrived room temperature ?? improved with ice bucket. Mrs ordered wedge salad and it was teriffic! Featured an Oregon blue cheese dressing, bacon done correctly. My corn chowder wasn't chowder, but a pureed soup, much too salty, had to fish for the tiny piece of the advertised dungeness crab, had hint of white corn flavor. Waiter warned us off the $4 grilled oysters which were "very small" and opted for mussels. No one should serve dead (closed) shell fish... dish had 4, broth average. Advised to order lamb medium? Arrived chewy with tasty sauce. Don't understand picking that cut for a high priced entree."

  • "Noted improvement in wine selection by the glass. A little pricey for Sonoma"

  • "Are dinner and it was excellent. Mussle, wedge salad, and crab pizza were excellent! Usually pizza is just at the bar, but they allowed us to order because that what we were in the mood for. Excellent service from our waiter, Danny. Very professional and personable. We had breakfast the next day, and it was delicious also! Mushroom omelet was amazing! Our waitress was excellent and made sure our food came promptly as we were waiting on a trolley tour. Beautiful restraurant. Some of the best meals we had in Sonoma!"

  • "We were greeted in a friendly manner. Our waiter was engaging, knowledgable and personable. Support staff made sure we had to wait for nothing. At our table, we had both seafood dishes being served that evening. The King Salmon was cooked to perfection on served on a bed of red quinoa. The other couple had the halibut and really enjoyed it. We finished with a sorbet and it was divine."

  • "nice dinner menu and atmosphere. Breakfast buffet good but ordering off menu seemed to cause a problem in the kitchen."

  • "Very impressive restaurant - I would thoroughly recommend it."

  • "Started with a shaky experience at the bar but the bartender was very nice, corrected the problem and we moved on. Also it took too long to receive our drinks as we were 2 of 5 people at the bar and the other 3 had already been served. Anyway, the food was delicious, the wait staff very good and not intrusive. Everyone polite and attentive. The steak was done to perfection. A very nice experience."

  • "Our entrees of Petaluma Chicken and Nightly Special of Shrimp in brodo over papperdelle were disappointing. The chicken was overcooked so dry, it was unedible. The only flavor was of wood. Moisten and season the Chicken skin and under the skin with olive oil and herbs before cooking to give it more moisture. The shrimp special had virtually no taste. The shrimp was not properly seasoned or cooked. rubbery. The broth tasted of mushrooms and the papperdelle cooked perfectly but the broth did not pair with this pasta. Advice is to add Japanese flavors to enhance this dish. "

  • "This is one of our go-to places to celebrate special occasions - anniversaries, graduations, etc. The food is consistently very good with many dishes simply excellent - the lamb and the spicy shrimp are exceptional. The wine selections are very good and varied and the by the glass selections are varied and not the same old same old. Service is excellent and the ambiance graceful. You can count on the Bistro for a really nice experience and a pleasant evening."

  • "We dine here frequently and last Saturday we were happy to bring out of town family who were here for the weekend to go wine tasting. All were extremely happy with the quality of the food and the service couldn't have been better. "

  • "We enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Carneros Bistro. The ambiance was very good - we were able to chat to our friends as the noise level was quiet. The waitress was very attentive and even gave us scones and marmalade, even though it was lunch time! Our meals were all very good. A really nice restaurant for a lazy, conversation friendly lunch."

  • "After living in Napa for 6 years, I discovered this incredible restaurant! What a wine list! The food was incredible! Attentive servers, not too pricey and free wine tasting on Thursday nights. How can you beat that?"

  • "Enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Carneros Bistro & Wine Bar. The fish tacos were excellent and the shrimp salad was light and flavorful. The atmosphere is inviting and the service was nothing short of perfection. We haven't had dinner here as yet but if it's anything like lunch, we're in !!!!"

  • "Easily the best "hotel restaurant" we've been to in a long time. Very good food & service. The beet salad burrata was just about perfect. Give this place a try."

  • "My wife and I stayed at the Lodge at Sonoma Renaissance Resort and Spa (restaurant is part of the property)---convenient since you don't have to worry about drinking/driving issues. Staff extremely professional and friendly. Food was flavorful and presented nicely. The restaurant has an extensive wine list. Since we were celebrating my wife's birthday, she was presented with an impressive dessert with "Happy Birthday" piped in chocolate on the rim of the plate. The restaurant serves a fabulous breakfast also; however it is a bit pricey. Would definitely eat here again if in the area for a special occasion."

  • "My husband loved your Petaluma Chicken. I had the Lamb sirloin and was very disappointed. The meat was tough and hard to cut. The Greens were heaped on the plate and hard to manage and the mashed potatoes soaked up all of the good juices which would be so nice with the lamb."
    Dined on 2/27/2014
  • "You wouldn't normally be expecting the varied menu, excellent service and thorough wine list in a hotel restaurant - this is a quality resto that only happens to be in a hotel on Sonoma's main drag. Defintely worth a visit - lots of smaller label Sonoma wineries on the pairings list."

  • "We both enjoyed our meals, but the red quinoa has got to go. It was too salty. Wine by the glass was steep. Service was good."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner for 2 to celebrate my birthday. Our server was excellent and always there when we needed her - but did not hover. The swordfish was the best I've ever tasted (that was my husbands dinner). I had the fillet mignon - cooked perfectly and severed with wonderful sides. Dessert was delicious too. My husband had the crème brule (sp?) trio and I had the chocolate cake with peanut butter ice cream. They wrote Happy Birthday in chocolate sauce and served it with a candle burning brightly. It was a lovely treat!"

  • "We had a wonderful birthday dinner! We are vegetarians and found a variety of gourmet vegetarian choices, which surprised us! The service is superb, a nice ambience and setting. Definitely recommend!"

  • "I enjoyed dinner with 4 of my friends on a Friday night. The service was wonderful. All staff was attentive. The ambiance was beautiful and although I was not on a romantic dinner, it could be a romantic location for a date. Food arrived in a timely manner and was cooked perfectly. I enjoyed the salmon and quinoa which was fabulous. I tasted the Lamb and it was tender and juicy. They only thing that left a little to be desired was the french fries. They were nothing to write home about. They really didn't fit the dinners we were having. They seemed a bit "fast food ish" All in all, I will return to this restaurant. It was a wonderful experience."

  • "It's a good place to go for Sunday brunch. Been here a number of times. Service can be spotty - fair to good - depending on who and the time of day. Price is okay - a bit higher than I would for the brunch menu. Paying for the ambiance and location, I suppose."

  • "I seem to forget that hotels have restaurants too, and while looking for a nice place to eat the weekend after Christmas remembered that the Carneros Bistro was recommended to me a while back. I took my wife and parents there, and we all enjoyed ourselves immensely. My wife says that the fish she ordered is the best she's ever had. Too bad they ran out of truffle fries though."

  • "Carneros Bistro has a bar area where you can order whatever you like and still sit in comfort and enjoy sports on TV. They also have a large dining area with nice ambience that is never too noisy so you can enjoy an intimate dinner or have a small private room for a party of 5 or more. The food is consistently good!"

  • "My husband and I were excited to treat ourselves to a very nice meal since it was Christmas. For 65 dollars a meal we were expecting the best meal we've ever had. The food was okay but nothing special. I chose to have the steak for dinner. It was good but it came with four small chunks of potato which was not enough in my opinion. For dessert I had the eggnog creme brûlée. That was not good at all. Overall the food was just okay but we both agreed we wouldn't return to the restaurant. The service was good but the food was not."
