Diner Reviews
  • "Enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Carneros Bistro & Wine Bar. The fish tacos were excellent and the shrimp salad was light and flavorful. The atmosphere is inviting and the service was nothing short of perfection. We haven't had dinner here as yet but if it's anything like lunch, we're in !!!!"

  • "Easily the best "hotel restaurant" we've been to in a long time. Very good food & service. The beet salad burrata was just about perfect. Give this place a try."

  • "My wife and I stayed at the Lodge at Sonoma Renaissance Resort and Spa (restaurant is part of the property)---convenient since you don't have to worry about drinking/driving issues. Staff extremely professional and friendly. Food was flavorful and presented nicely. The restaurant has an extensive wine list. Since we were celebrating my wife's birthday, she was presented with an impressive dessert with "Happy Birthday" piped in chocolate on the rim of the plate. The restaurant serves a fabulous breakfast also; however it is a bit pricey. Would definitely eat here again if in the area for a special occasion."

  • "My husband loved your Petaluma Chicken. I had the Lamb sirloin and was very disappointed. The meat was tough and hard to cut. The Greens were heaped on the plate and hard to manage and the mashed potatoes soaked up all of the good juices which would be so nice with the lamb."

  • "We both enjoyed our meals, but the red quinoa has got to go. It was too salty. Wine by the glass was steep. Service was good."

  • "Always delicious food and a great selection of wine - - but a bit on the pricey side."

  • "I WAS HOPING FOR A MUCH BETTER EXPERIENCE ON VALENTINE'S DAY, BUT ALL WE GOT WAS MEDIOCRE FOOD AND WORSE SERVICE."

  • "Very much enjoyed our dinner. Food was fresh, well prepared and just delicious. Sommelier suggestion was genius. Don't miss the creme brûlée trio. Service was very attentive and cordial. Never bother to give reviews but this was outstanding."

  • "We go to the Carneros weekly and always have great food and great service!! Great restaurant for Sonoma visitors as well as Sonoma locals like ourselves! John and BJ"

  • "We had a wonderful dinner for 2 to celebrate my birthday. Our server was excellent and always there when we needed her - but did not hover. The swordfish was the best I've ever tasted (that was my husbands dinner). I had the fillet mignon - cooked perfectly and severed with wonderful sides. Dessert was delicious too. My husband had the crème brule (sp?) trio and I had the chocolate cake with peanut butter ice cream. They wrote Happy Birthday in chocolate sauce and served it with a candle burning brightly. It was a lovely treat!"

  • "We had a wonderful birthday dinner! We are vegetarians and found a variety of gourmet vegetarian choices, which surprised us! The service is superb, a nice ambience and setting. Definitely recommend!"

  • "I enjoyed dinner with 4 of my friends on a Friday night. The service was wonderful. All staff was attentive. The ambiance was beautiful and although I was not on a romantic dinner, it could be a romantic location for a date. Food arrived in a timely manner and was cooked perfectly. I enjoyed the salmon and quinoa which was fabulous. I tasted the Lamb and it was tender and juicy. They only thing that left a little to be desired was the french fries. They were nothing to write home about. They really didn't fit the dinners we were having. They seemed a bit "fast food ish" All in all, I will return to this restaurant. It was a wonderful experience."

  • "Went there for lunch and had, as usual, good food!! Prices are reasonable and the waitstaff make sure that you are well taken care of. The portions are just enough and very favorable. We have been here before and will be back again!!"

  • "It was a true pleasure to dine at Carneros Bistro this weekend. Every aspect of the food, service and attractive wine program were wonderful. My wife and I vowed to go back again soon."

  • "An amazing experience each time we go. Thanksgiving and Christmas day dinners were amazing and no clean up afterwards!! The Sommelier does an incredible job of pairing the amazing Sonoma wines with the Chefs creations. A definitely must go restaurant!"

  • "I seem to forget that hotels have restaurants too, and while looking for a nice place to eat the weekend after Christmas remembered that the Carneros Bistro was recommended to me a while back. I took my wife and parents there, and we all enjoyed ourselves immensely. My wife says that the fish she ordered is the best she's ever had. Too bad they ran out of truffle fries though."

  • "Had a fabulous prix fixe meal at Carneros Bistro on Christmas day. The filet of beef was fabulous; I ordered it medium rare and it was a delicious, large piece of filet, so tender you could cut it with a fork. The cream of cauliflower soup was a gem; rich and creamy with a down home taste. Dessert of yule log with candy cane ice cream was the right touch to finish off the meal. The sponge cake was great, wrapped around a cream filling, not overly sweet; a joy to the taste sense. This was my first experience at this restaurant. I will want to try their lunch menu next!"

  • "It's a good place to go for Sunday brunch. Been here a number of times. Service can be spotty - fair to good - depending on who and the time of day. Price is okay - a bit higher than I would for the brunch menu. Paying for the ambiance and location, I suppose."

  • "Carneros Bistro has a bar area where you can order whatever you like and still sit in comfort and enjoy sports on TV. They also have a large dining area with nice ambience that is never too noisy so you can enjoy an intimate dinner or have a small private room for a party of 5 or more. The food is consistently good!"

  • "The location and ambience was a great meeting place or date night. I found the food portion size small for the high price. I left a bit hungry. I don't mind paying for great food as long as the bread basket isn't the focus. (It has hotel pricing)"

  • "Have dined here many times before and liked it. Perhaps because it was Christmas Day, none of the servers seemed interested in being there. One filled a water glass to overflowing and walked away, not looking back. While the food was of good quality, well prepared and adequate in quantity, the prix fixe menu ($65) was not as interesting as the food has been in the past. In general, it was a disappointing experience and not a good value at $90 for three courses including tax and tip and an espresso. On the plus side, there was no corkage fee as we brought Sonoma wine."

  • "Went for Christmas meal which was a prix fixe menu. The food was good. Excellent wine list. We had 2 small children (ages 4 and 6) and there was not a different children's menu which was difficult."

  • "My husband and I were excited to treat ourselves to a very nice meal since it was Christmas. For 65 dollars a meal we were expecting the best meal we've ever had. The food was okay but nothing special. I chose to have the steak for dinner. It was good but it came with four small chunks of potato which was not enough in my opinion. For dessert I had the eggnog creme brûlée. That was not good at all. Overall the food was just okay but we both agreed we wouldn't return to the restaurant. The service was good but the food was not."

  • "The food is good, the wine list is impressive, the ambiance is very pleasant, and the staff are great. That said, the restaurant is over-priced."

  • "We. Booked for christmAs lunch The room had zero Xmas decoration Zero Not even lights No music A terrible fan noise like an airplane Only a prix fix $ 65 dollar lunch Shame on this hotel"

  • "The service was superb, as was the food, from the time we sat down and throughout the meal. This small restaurant in Sonoma is on a par with excellent restaurants in San Francisco, but with better parking! We have watched this little restaurant grow in stature for the past few years, and it is now quite "grown-up" today. We had four adults and two young children, and everyone was quite pleased with the service and the food."

  • "In any other small town you could say the food is outstanding but Sonoma has a lot of competition. My Ahi tuna was cooked to perfection. My husband's hanger steak was also cooked perfectly. Our waiter was excellent - attentive but not intrusive. We were seated in a private room which made the occasion feel more intimate, personal and quite. It was easy to hear others at the table. I have to say we did rearranged the table to make it a square rather than a long rectangle. We and the wait staff had plenty of room and it made conversation much easier. The restaurant staff was gracious and flexible about the new arrangement. They may even use it on a regular basis. Best of all - no corkage fee for locals!!!"

  • "I think because this is a hotel restaurant, people do not expect or know that the cuisine is excellent. Our food was as well prepared as at Auberge du Soleil for half the price. The waiter was knowledgeable about the wines and pointed me toward a pinot noir I really liked rather than pushing the more expensive one that was not to my taste. I don't understand why this place is not packed all the time, but, it's not. I highly recommend it. Three dinners so far and all were excellent."

  • "We had a wonderful meal and time at Carneros Bistro. The wine list was impressive with many great selections and the waiter's opinion o the wine we chose was on the mark. We went on a Thursday and they had a guest winemaker pouring some samples of his wines. Great additional benefit and you get to interact with a winemaker! One of the best meas we had in wine country and it was a great experience overall!"

  • "The last night my parents and Brother would be in town and wanted a special meal to celebrate the end of our wedding weekend. Food was amazing, my brother is very picky due to health issues and he said it was the best he had in a while and it did not upset his stomach at all. My parents really enjoyed the food and ambiance and the hostess was kind enough to put us in a quiet corner so we could enjoy our evening. However, I would think the noise level might be a bit higher during a Friday or Saturday night. Service was great. My new husband and I plan on enjoying this restaurant again very soon."

  • "While the look of the restaurant was nice, the food was just fair and service was poor. We noticed our appetizers sitting on the service line for almost 4 minutes before the manager finally brought it over. Soup and fries are not good cold so we sent them back where it appears they were microwaved to reheat rather than provide fresh. We were a party of 4 and asked for the check to be split between couples. One check was brought to the table and when we requested it be split, it was still not correct. Not a good experience and would not return."

  • "The Bistro is located in the front corner of the Sonoma Lodge (a Marriott/Renaissance hotel). It is moderately sized, upscale, and modern, but very comfortable. Nice bar and an open kitchen. The menu is seasonal with good choices and everything is prepared and presented with class. We had smoked corn soup, caprese salad, plus a lamb and salmon entree - all were excellent and served with nice seasonal sides - plus, the staff split the soup and salad at no additional cost. If you want wine, you can buy it in the hotel wine bar (good selection & reasonable prices) and they will serve it without a corkage fee. Service was attentive and timely, all in all a very nice experience - this is our 4 successful visit."
