Carnaval Brazilian BBQ is located at Bannatyne and Waterfront in the historic East Exchange. The two floor restaurant has been the outcome of the hard work from our team that has worked tirelessly to bring you such great restaurants as Hermanos Restaurant & Wine Bar, Corrientes Argentine Pizzeria and the Billabong Gastro Pub.

Our team is proud to bring all the elements of an authentic Brazilian BBQ dining experience to Winnipeg. Featuring a wood coal burning BBQ that came from Rio Grande do Sul,South Brazil, home of the famous Brazilian BBQ. This rotisserie style BBQ, makes for the most tender, juicy, perfectly cooked cuts of meats. Our passionate team comprised of Brazilian nationals and Brazilian trained staff will ensure that the authentic culinary experience is one your senses will crave.

  • "Poor service from the waiter. Too busy with other tables and stemware for us. Seemed mad with the tip I left, didn't even say thank you or have a nice night. Threw Receipt on table and just walked away. All the sides were terrible. We were told they are all made together at once and set under warming light the whole time. Salad bad as well. Was warned that everything would be really salty but meat had almost no taste desperately needed seasonings. Need better selection of sauces to use other then just got sauce. Very cramped dinning room people were running into each other constantly. Sad we were celebrating a anniversary. The best part of the whole resturant was the servers with the meat. They had the most personality and were great."

  • "Pineapple dish tasted dried out and the server came to our table serving the core of the pineapple. We waited in hopes to have a couple of the first dishes served to us; however, they never did come around a second time. Our server was very eager to have us pay the bill; however, when we told her that we waiting for some particular dishes she mentioned that she would have them come to our table. Which unfortunately they never did. Our first time at the restaurant we were very impressed. Our recent second experience will have us trying another restaurant next time. Too much money to spend for a so-so experience."

  • "Lunch on the patio was tasty and the view of Waterfront is great. However, on that Friday (15th of August), the service was slow. 10 minutes to get our beers when we first ordered (and they weren't the correct ones either) is slow. The food was very good though and at $9 that's a great price. They seemed short staffed so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and will be back to try it again."

  • "As a relatively new Winnipeger and with a much newer girlfriend, I've embarked on experiencing what Winnipeg has to offer. I've heard positive things about Carnival (more like Carnivore) and was excited to try it. Service was great, food was plentiful, and I enjoyed myself very much. There was 2 large groups that were noisy but what the hell, the name of the place is Carnaval, right? If you want quiet, romantic ambience then maybe this isn't the place. Honestly, I can bbq myself a tasty steak at home for a fraction of the price but I came here for the experience. And the experience was great."

  • "Tables are small, really tight for groups. Mandatory 18% tip on 8 people or more, even when the service level doesn't come close to deserving it. The same cuts of beef come around again and again, but it seems impossible to get tenderloin, pork or chicken. Sides are delicious but on our first visit our server never checked on us so we couldn't get refills on side dishes or water. This visit we learned our lesson and asked for all of our sides at the beginning of the meal. You have bones, fat and gristle left over after the different meats but they don't offer anywhere to place them or swap your plate partway through the meal. We've tried Carnaval twice and neither time was fantastic - and for $50+ (with mandatory group tip) it should be."

  • "Upon entering Hostess was quick to attend to our needs and cordial but seemed to be just going through the motions.Upstairs we were promptly seated and our waitress was very pleasant and attentive with serving us.The servers as well. The choice of cuts were a hit and miss I feel.Some were bland tasting,others too salty while some being well done in taste and cooking time and others oozing in blood.Depends on what you like.I expected more chicken but the majority was beef and pork with too much fat.The grilled pineapple was nice.If your a meat lover it's for you.The side dishes were ok but nothing special.At 50$ a plate n all you can eat,go on an empty stomach to get your money's worth.Overall an average experience for a hefty price."

  • "This was a dining experience that transcended price. The dinner buffet was nearly $50 a plate. The wine cost as much as the meal. But none of that mattered when a juicy, well-seasoned tri-tip steak hit my plate. Before I could imitate a food critic describing the texture and presentation of the cut, another sword was on our table with another succulent slice of meat. The service was consistent and almost made it hard to keep up. On the note of service though, the waiting staff could use a little work. While we were impressed by our waitress's choice in red wine, which complimented the meal, she was certainly no stranger to airing her grievances about customers within earshot. Not a class move. Overall: Decadent food but prickly staff."

  • "This second visit to Carnaval was even better than the first. The first was a few days before the final matches of the World Cup, so the ambiance was of jerseys in the colours of the fans' favourites. The second time was quieter and more romantic. Both times, the food was superb. Of course, I have favourites: the skirt steak, the chorizo, the bacon wrapped tenderloin, the ribeye. Throughout, service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive or cloying. I have rarely seen this perfect level of attention. The wine list is very good, without going overboard in numbers of options. I suggest the Cabernet Sauvignon by Sottano; it pairs particularly well with the grilled food and is decently priced. Seniors get a break on Sundays."

  • "We 5 were sat behind 20 loud patrons. We could not hear to speak. We got their leftovers if we flagged down the server. The servers informed us that we wouldn't like the rare meat anyway. Drinks took upwards of 45 minutes. The pineapple never made it to us. What we did eat was good. I would recommend you give this place a miss and go to the other restaurant owned by this group. Incredibly disappointed."

  • "Loved my experience at Carnaval. Our server was available when needed, explained how the dining experience worked and filled our water glasses after every couple sips. The choice of side dishes was good but the choice of cuts of meat was exceptional. Everything tasted fantastic and I left feeling stuffed as I could not get enough of the different cuts of meat offered. The lamb shoulder stick out the most for me. My wife and I don't eat out very often but this dining experience did not disappoint. My only critique would be the music was a little too loud for my liking as it was sometime difficult to hear the conversation. I will be back here for sure."

  • "Everyone seemed to be trying hard, but our waitress couldn't answer basic questions about the menu. The side dishes were really poorly done: The roasted yams were mushy, not caramelized, and cold, the rice was not appetizing and was mixed with chunks of grey mystery meat, and the panzanella salad was chunks of tasteless unripe tomatoes tossed with boxed croutons and a bit of balsamic without a hint of seasoning. The meat consisted mainly of fatty, over salted, over cooked beef (with no taste difference between cuts). We never saw any chicken (except one 1 1/2 inch strip of bacon wrapped something...thigh maybe?), filet mignon, or lamb, and the pork loin only came around once. It does not compete with similarly priced places (at all)."

  • "Took my family to Carnaval for the first time last night. What a great experience! We were greeted cheerfully when we arrived, our waitress was friendly and attentive, and the food was excellent. It might be a bit too salty for some palettes but that is the nature of authentic South American barbeque. We really enjoyed having the gauchos come to our table and carve off meat from their skewers for each of us. Loved the ambience, and the Exchange District location is an added bonus. I made the table reservation the day before using the OpenTable link on Carnaval's website and it worked perfectly for me. I am looking forward to my next visit to Carnaval!"

  • "I felt that the waiters/ Chefs came around too slow. I understand it gives time for the patron to feel full, and therefore not eat as much. I felt the food lacked flavour (otherthan salt), and although tender, a little dry. We tested the lunch buffet to see if it would be worth it to come for dinner, and I felt it was not. Overall pleasant, nice atmosphere, but somewhat disappointing!"

  • "Poor service from the beginning. We had reservations and had to wait because they were late opening. The hostess was full if attitude from the start. She rolled her eyes, was not friendly and did not clear the extra settings or menus before spilling water all over. Most of the food was very dry and over salted. The better cuts of meat like filet mignon never appeared. We requested items that we saw served beside us and they never came. The gauchos were all polite. The hostess promptly told us the table was reserved after us and we would need to move to the lounge as soon as we paid the bill. At almost $50/person this was really substandard. Go for the novelty not for the food quality and certainly not the service or paid street parking."

Two complaints though; when making a reservation online it had a section asking if I had an special requests, I said it was my girlfriends bday if they did anything for bdays. Nothing special happened even though two tables over I saw someone receive a piece of cake with a candle in it. 2nd complaint; waitress was very unattentive. Only saw her once after receiving our wine, and an hour into dinner we had to ask her where our side dishes were that we ordered at the beginning of the meal yet. She acted like she had no clue what we were talking about."

  • "I have been to Carnival a few times and the food is always AMAZING! This last time I found the service to be lacking. The waitress didn't warm up to my table until the bill came and we found that the food was coming out slower than normal. I am also used to them explaining how things work to people who haven't been there before. Which they did not do this time."

  • "Service was pretty bad for such an expensive restaurant. If we have a reservation for 6:30, arrive on time, and don't get seated until 6:50, that's a bad start already. The server was hard to find to order anything, and water wasn't often refilled (even though I left the glass on the edge on the table for her to see). The meat came by often enough, but most of it wasn't fantastic (the exception being the two bacon wrapped ones). All in all, I don't ever plan on going there again."

  • "This was my 2nd visit. I wanted a special evening as I had two grads to celebrate. I had everyone pumped up about how great the atmosphere, service and food was the first time. This visit we were seated under an extremely cold fan. Even with cardigans on we were cold and our food cooled off quite quickly. Our waitress asked that we be moved as our end person was in the aisle. The hostess nd finally moved us to another open table for six. The food was delicious. We did need to keep asking for water and sides. We walked out the front door and almost tripped over an ipod docking station. This should have been hidden. We will probably come back but not for awhile as the service could be improved."

  • "Went on a Saturday night, hostess didn't greet us or smile or even look at us when we arrived (with reservation) Service was completely unacceptable. Waiter was rude, did not explain the concept of the meal, wouldn't explain the dishes, I believe the wording was 'you'll see when it comes out'. We asked another waiter to explain the meal as our server was useless, the other waiter then said she'd gladly pass on the information as it wasn't the first complaint about him. We saw them discussing or arguing in the back afterwards. Server came to table to say they were out of things and didn't even ask if we want to substitute he just walked away after. Then also cleared dishes when we were still eating and had food on our plates. Rude."

  • "Overall it was a great food experience. Only disappoint was that we never saw any of the chicken dishes at our table, only beef, lamb, and one pork. Would have liked to see more variety and less of the exact dish over and over. Our server could have come around more and explained things a lot better than what he did. Was disappointed that our table was not ready on time."
