  • "We had not been to Carmine's in a long time. But we recently moved to a nearby neighborhood and decided it was time to revisit an old favorite. It did not disappoint. The same enormous family style portion are alot for 2 people, but they make it work and we had some great leftover pasta for lunch the next day."

For four diners, we started off with an antipasta misti (which had salamis, cheeses, and these awesome deep fried olives), house salad, and one entree (the chicken montana). The bread is also very good, almost biscuit-like, but flaky and brushed with butter. We had a chianti (not sure of the name), but complemented the food very well. Chocolate cake for dessert was great, too, sprinkled with toasted almonds while a couple of chocolate covered strawberries rode sidecar. Great experience, great service, excellent food. Parking can be a little tough, but they do have a valet. Will definitely go back again and again!"

While maybe marginally better than our local place, it was, at the end of the day, a pretty traditional and standard take on Italian food. The family style dishes are kinda fun, but that was about it."

  • "I selected the restaurant to celebrate my birthday as I was coming to town to visit my adult children. We had been to Carmin's once prior about a year ago and had a better experience. The waitress was rude, unfriendly, and seemed put out by our questions of the unexplained menu on the chalk board. Cute idea but a poor execution for a consumer dining in. The food was just, ok. The veal was tough, the spaghetti and meatballs was very good, the risotto was tasteless and the salad was good, not plentiful. The wine list was poor, what restaurant doesn't have a Cab to offer, not one? I spent over $200. for five people to eat and had superior meals at comparable Italian restaurants for way less money."

  • "I have been to Carmine's on Penn many times. I have referred people many times and was very disappointed. I brought my family for my mom's birthday. They were all new to the restaurant except for myself and my boyfriend. The hostess was extremely rude and our waiter made rude comments. The customer service was terrible. The food was great as always."

  • "Nate, our server, made excellent recommendations for food and wine. It was obvious that he had the menu committed to memory and was even able to recite the salad ingredients in short order. We had the Chicken Paisana, which was extraordinary and big. We were not sure what to expect for ambiance as we had never been here before. Turns out it is apparently a neighborhood staple with a lot of local regulars. Everything was very laid back, so if you're looking for pretense or a super upscale feel, this isn't the right place. They do provide valet service, but families were spread out 10 and 12 deep, and there was a definite bustle. Smiles were easy and Nate wrote our dinner order on the paper covering our table. We'll be back for sure."

  • "We had reservations for 5:00 not realizing that they didn't open until then. It was rather cold outside and there was a line waiting for them to unlock the door. A gentleman came to the door and said "I'm sorry, we aren't quite ready to let you in yet" and this was approximately 8 minutes after 5. Thought that was very rude to do that! Also, if you are a beer drinker, you only really have 1 choice of Miller Lite or if you want some other home-brewed beers which most are not something we were interested in. And no beer on tap! Seemed a little weird since we were not in a "bar" but a restaurant. We thought the food was pretty good but, as a couple, we would not go there because of the portions."

  • "Our experience at your restaurant was very dissatisfying. We were hoping for a nice delightful evening,, instead we received the opposite. We would not return to your restaurant or even recommend your restaurant to anyone. Here's why, the hostess was a snot, the floor manager ignored us from the moment we stepped foot in the doorway. He decided to seat people that were behind us first, and not make any acknowledgement of us as patrons and treated us like we weren't even their. Last of all, your food was overpriced with small family portions and was mediocre at best."

  • "My wife, and two friends joined me for dinner at Carmine's on 2/28/14. A co-worker of mine recommended the restaurant, so we decided to check it out. We were not disappointed. We ordered two entrees to share among the four of us, along with salad, an appetizer and dessert. The food was terrific, and the portions were huge. We wound up taking the food home because there was so much food served that we could not finish half of the portions. Our waitress was good, and the service was prompt. The only thing to keep in mind is the location is in a residential area so parking is mostly limited to on-street, with an optional $5.00 valet parking offered by the restaurant. Great place for dinner, and my wife and I would go back again."

  • "First visit here. Had always read about this restaurant. I was quite impressed with the wait staff. Friendly and attentive, but not overbearing. And this is especially good during Restaurant Week. We had a dish made with a lite, but spicy tomato sauce with chicken, sausage and shrimp served with linguine. Umm, very tasty. We also had the pear salad, made with butter lettuce and arugula in a lite and a little sweet dressing. We did understand that everything was served FAMIILY STYLE, which means large portions to share. I'd go more often if they offered single servings, as well."

  • "I was expecting to find a hidden gem with Carmine's based on the reviews I read but that wasn't the case. We went for restaurant week but found the service to be lackluster. The server was very nice but seemed very overwhelmed by his section, so he was not overly attentive. The food portions were very large, so they would be perfect for a large party, but did not include anything that "wowed" me or anything that would make me want to return. After finishing the meal, we awkwardly waited about 10 minutes for the check while the server cleaned other tables surrounding us that had all already left. We did get a complimentary cheesecake to go, which we were very pleased with, and this ended up being the best dish of the night!"

To our luck, as we were turned away the manager was greeting and placed us at the bar and immediately had us sat at a table where the server and service was awesome. This was our first romantic place to dine and have been coming back ever since, for 7 years now. Thank you!"

We only had one main dish so our opinion may not be representative of the whole menu. The portions were huge and we made a nice meal out of the leftovers the next night."

  • "This was my first experience at Carmine's on Penn and I will be honest. I have driven by before wanting to try it but wasn't sure about it due to the location. This past Saturday night I experienced great food and drinks. The level of deliciousness is out of this world! The portions are HUGE which is great when going with a large group or family. I would highly recommend the "carmines" and the "veal fresca" and of course not to mention the salads and appetizers. Next time I will skip right to the main dish! The apps and salads are great but portions are big as well!"
