Diner Reviews
  • "Carmines was wonderful. They sat us early. The food was delicious and service was wonderful."
    Dined on 4/11/2014
  • "New York has the BEST restaurants - this was fine, but not fresh/delicious. We would not go back. (1) PORTIONS ARE ENORMOUS. Each serving is enough for 2 people, and the salad is enough for 4. They will not sell half-portions. Huge waste. (2) NOT FIT FOR FOODIES. Nothing tasted fresh to order, the flavors were OK but this was a huge letdown. (3) ENERGETIC/RUSHED. My husband felt like he was eating in a train station -- and the food felt like it was cafeteria throwing it on a plate. Not wasting my time to write more, just don't go."

  • "Went for a late lunch. Family style servings. Outstanding service and food."

  • "Best for groups of three or more. Portions sized for four people with good appetites. Food excellent, service quick and attentive, prices reasonable. Wish they would serve single serving portions."

  • "Third time at the restaurant and it didn't disappoint. It's related to Virgil' s BBQ. Had Virgil too this trip, but it can't touch Carmine's. Family style meal tastes like it was made just for me. Don't forget the cheesecake. It serves four but they'll cut it for two."

  • "Huge portions amazing food!!! Can't wait to go back!"

  • "I ate THE BEST penne alla vodka I have ever tasted -- and I use that dish as my benchmark to rate all Italian restaurants. I've eaten it all over the world, and Carmine's is now at the top of my list. Well done!!"

  • "Great place to eat, yummy food. Always make sure making a reservation before going."

  • "We booked a table for 10.30pm. The service was excellent as was the old style Italian food. The restaurant was busy, boisterous and fun. We had a great night. I liked it so much we went back!"
    Dined on 4/9/2014
  • "Besides the fame, it's a restaurant that the food is so simple and does not provide a good experience!!! In Sao Paulo - Brazil we do have much better Italian comparing with Carmines!!"

  • "This week was my 4th time having dinner here. There really isn't anything negative to say. The service was wonderful. The food is delicious. You feel very relaxed. It's a great experience. Everyone should experience dinner at Carmine's. Valley girl"

  • "Our dinner was perfect and so were our drinks. I wish I could remember our server's name - Dina maybe? She was so accommodating. Our cosmos were delicious, just like I like'em. We enjoyed the special salad, the porterhouse steak to die for and coffee and desert. The ambiance is nill - it could use a good scrubbing. The food is tops!"

  • "We love Carmine's midtown. We are from out of town but we make a point to dine here every time we are in the Big Apple. This is a great place for people with young kids. Family friendly and the food is great and reasonably priced. We have had some innovative salads and entrees and the wine list if good as well."

  • "We go to Carmine's 2-3 times a year as a family. This time it was a girls day out. We decided on lunch & the theater. We all agreed on Carmine's even though not all had previously been there. All of us enjoyed our food. We had drinks, garlic bread, the salad special, the entree special & another entree and of course....coffee & dessert. It was a win win with a doggie bag for each of us. 5 star restaurant always. Never a disappointment except when we can't get in. Bon appetite!"

  • "We finally got a chance to go to Carmine's made a reservation and got right in. The food was excellent. Even my daughter who is very picky when it comes to meat, she LOVED the meatballs. We can't wait to take another trip to NY and go back."

  • "Confusing why when I called the restaurant to book a reservation I was told nothing available until 9pm. Went online and made reservation with little effort for 1:30. Arrived on time but were told to go to the bar area for 2 mins. 25 mins later had to get up and ask how long to be seated since several people walked in after us and they were all seated. Many tables empty on lower level however we were schlep to 2nd floor where there were even more tables empty/available. Listened to 5 waiters negotiate who was going to wait on our table which took 5-10 mins. Waiter that finally greeted us was cold, unfriendly, and not very helpful. All of this was disappointing. The saving grace was the food....superb! Must consider if we will be back."

  • "We had a lovely lunch pre-theatre and all 4 of us shared one salad, and one entree. The shrimp was cooked just right. We told our server that we had to be at the theatre and we got in and out in time, without feeling rushed."

  • "Our family of 4, including a teenager and 10 year old, loved this restaurant! With the classic atmosphere, pleasant service and good food it was a highlight in our trip. The Ceasar salad was the best we've had. Our teen asked to take the left-overs! A reservation would be recommended because we certainly didn't see any open tables. We arrived 10 minutes before our reserved time and were directly escorted to our table. Easy! We will definitely return during our next trip to New York!"

  • "After a long anticipated wait, we finally went to Carmine's to eat! Well, it was somewhat of a let down. We ordered two appetizers and they came out within 20 minutes of each other. one was for 2 people in our party and the other was for the other 2 people so needless to say we didn't eat together. The entrée of chicken parm was burnt on the bottom and the linguini wasn't even a pound of macaroni for $30.00. Tony Dinapoli's 2 blocks away is much better!!"

  • "Great food, great service, great experience! Portions are big and served family style. Servers are very knowledgeable and advise on how much food to order for the size of your group. Take that advice! Great range of food. There were only three of us so couldn't order a huge selection as we would never have gotten through everything. We ordered the Carmine's salad which was very tasty and also the spaghetti and meatballs. The tomato sauce was amazing, great depth of flavour. We had a couple of the blueberry mojitos, they were nice and strong, but not too strong! Very busy restaurant would definitely advise booking in advance. Will definitely return the next time I am in New York. Will bring a bigger group so I can try more of the menu!"

  • "This is the best Italian restaurant in NYC! Biggest portions and tastiest food."
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "We love taking large groups here. The atmosphere is great, the food is delicious, the wait staff is friendly and the portions are huge. Usually one portion will feed four or five people so even though your are paying $30 - $40 per portion, in the end, the price is very reasonable for the high quality and delicious food you get."

  • "My wife and I went to Carmine's after a show - and would definitely go back! It seemed like there were 2 separate restaurants inside - downstairs was crowded and noisy (but not in a bad way - maybe vibrant is a better choice), while upstairs was roomy and much quieter (but not tomblike). The food was outstanding - and the portions were huge. We read other reviews but weren't prepared for the portion size. We ate less than half of the Carmine's salad and about the same amount of penne with Italian sausage (which was incredibly tender and tasty!)."

  • "Loved this suggestion for dining if you are going to the theatre. We went after the show and it was packed. Super happy we had reservations through open table. The food was delicious, our waiter superb. Would go again in a heartbeat. Chose the tugboat ovedr the titanic though. One can only eat so mucn at 11:30pm."

  • "I went with my family and was a great experience nice food and good service and very reasonable given its location would defiantly recommend."
    Dined on 3/30/2014
  • "I called to inquire about portion size for 2 people and was told that lunch portions were smaller, so therefore better for my daughter and myself. But NEVER told weekdays only. So imagine my disdain when informed of that on Sat. So we paid twice as much and threw away half the food - although the meatballs were delicious! $80 is steep for the simplest salad, angel hair pasta and meatballs and cokes for 2!"
