  • "Have been to Carmines many times and last Saturday night was the worst. They had so many people flowing through it wasn't a surprise that the food was terrible. In all my dining experiences I have never ordered oysters that came out frozen! Yes, the entire plate of oysters were frozen. We almost threw up. The chicken marsala was terrible as well. Service was slow but expected that with the crowds. This place has average food on a good night. This was not a good night."

  • "The food was truly amazing, very tasty. The portions were a bit big, which is not necessary a bad thing. Two people could easily eat from one plate. The service we got was also outstanding. The waiter knew what he was recommending, he was funny and catered to all our needs. I dined with my family who were visiting out of town on a Saturday evening around 7PM. Around 8-9 PM it got very busy, a little bit loud. It wasn't too bad, depending what your tolerance level is."

  • "Our experience overall was very good. It became very crowded and yet everyone was very accomodating as our group of 8 had 2 little ones in strollers/high chairs. The only complaints I would have is that the prices on Carmine's website menu for dinners were substantially lower than they actually turned out to be! Also, the bottle of wine we ordered was NOT a full bottle (much smaller) and no one alerted us to that as we did not notice it on the wine list, and, we were charged $44 for the bottle when the wine list showed $29. So we paid $44 for literally 3 glasses of Moscato. We intend to call about that. The food was very good, the portions generous, and the outdoor ambiance was wonderful, even though it was a little loud."

  • "I hosted a dinner party of eight at Carmine's last week. Everyone enjoyed every part of our meal. The staff was a little too busy to be completely attentive, but it wasn't too bad. Beware, it's a lot of food. The salads are made for sharing and the main courses are 2X a regular servicing. If you have appetizers and salads, you won't be able to finish your meal."

  • "The food was ok. Salmon was somewhat dry. Stuffed mushrooms were way more mushroom than stuffed. Biggest issue was the service. Wed. night. reservation. Asked for quiet table - was seated in between 3 large parties. Took almost 10 minutes to get waiter. Another 5 to see a waiter who wanted to take our order but we hadn't been provided with a wine list. It's a team waitstaff concept - lots of rotation but bad coordination. Poor handoffs. The staff was rushed and not very attentive. For what we spent ($280 for 3 people) I felt like the service could have been better. The food was ok. It felt like a chain restaurant experience that didn't sync up with the price. No ambiance at all in the upstairs diding area. Patio is great - stay there."

  • "Everything was great about this place with the exception of the steak we ordered and of course, the price of that steak. I know Carmines is not known for steak, but if you are paying $40 for a steak, you expect it to be decent and at least cooked the way you ordered it. My husband ordered a medium rare steak and it came out almost well done. There was no color to the steak at all and it was difficult to chew with little flavor. We were appalled that we were charged $40 for it but were with a group of work associates and were too embarrassed to send the steak back at the time. I suggest sticking to their spaghetti and meatballs, which were delicious. Definitely an older crowd...."

  • "We enjoyed Carmine's overall. Great food and nice atmosphere. However, our waiter was very pushy and did not offer us the opportunity to look over the menu and relax a bit. We were not sure what the huff was all about? It was dinner and we were not a slow group that would tie up a table. In hind sight I should have asked him to allow us some time to look over the large menu, and if necessary change to another waiter, or as a last resort leave and go somewhere else. That being said, it was the only negative, and most likely not typical of the wait staff. We will give it another try because the food is very good."

We got a seat by the window upstairs which was very nice, our waiter was fantastic, and the food was great. Portions are huge, and we knew that going in, so my dinner guest and I shared a starter and an entrée and we still couldn't finish it all. The Shrimp Risotto was outstanding. Perfect consistency and flavor. I will be making more visits to Carmines when I am in Chicago."

The service is great and the brocolini on the side with lots of lemons is a great addition. The chicken is so flavorful and tender, can't be beat for quality and value."

Sadly, I overheard one of the staff talking about the old people eating so early. The food was excellent and I would recommend it, however, we were very disappointed with the comments by the male staff member. You do not have to publish this."
