Went for dinner before a show. I had the ravioli and the cheese was mouthwateringly delicious, in fact my husband wanted to eat my dinner. Highly recommend the pasta. However, my husband ordered the Chicken Limone. I've had better almost everywhere else. The chicken was tough and the Limone was so so. The Caesar salad was very good, not too much garlic or dressing. Light and flavorful. We needed to get in and out because we had show tix and our waiter was great. We'll be back to try some other dishes.

came back to chifor a 4 day stay. our experience started out a bit rough, as we were seated at a table right next to the kitchen door, even thought there were other tables available. then a party of 20 was seated next to us and they were loud, beliigerent and made for a very uncomfortable feeling. we also felt ignored, as our waiter seemed to have disappeared. after asking to be moved, we were taken to an outdoor table, and the rest of the evening was wonderful. great service, great drinks, great meatballs!!!! i go back to carmine's every time i'm back in chicago

Every time I come to Chicago I make it a point to recommend and dine at this restaurant (I am originally from Chicago so am familiar with other restaurants). The food, the people, are outstanding. This was the first time dining inside on the ground level and the noise level was loud; however, it was practically a full house and an engagement party of 15 enjoying themselves. I would not let this stop you from visiting.

We went on a warmer fall day that turned chilly, but the heated patio seating kept the temperature perfect. Great people watching location. Food was tremendous - bruschetta, shrimp, skirt steak - all really fantastic. Waiter was very good but service was slow and took a long time to get more water, more bread, etc. Food more than made up for it, just a little frustrating since there were several help staff running around but couldn't get their attention - and shouldn't have to anyway - they should be coming by and checking more frequently. Definitely recommend.

Order pork chops and husband had shrimp. I asked for plain broiled pork chops. No pepper like menu stated. Wanted them tender pork needs to be cooked to a temperature so as a customer? I just wanted them plain broiled and hot. I received them they were floating in some oil butter sauce and had pepper I guess that was the potatoe sauce? Didn't want to complain as it was my husbands birthday and didn't want to ruin his night. He also gave me a taste of his shrimp? It was rubbery though it was hot ..mine was not. My husband ordered shrimp and said no onions in any thing? Salad was full of onions. We have eaten at carmines a few times, but it has been a while ? So I am a little dissatisfied as I feel the cost was a lot for the quality.

My wife and I took my son and his girlfriend out for a special occasion dinner. Since my son and his girl live in Chicago and have tried the food there, they raved about how good it is. They weren't mistaken. Lasagna was closest thing to my Mom's that I've ever tasted. Chicken El Forno, Rigatoni in Vodka Sauce and Veal dish my wife had were all to die for. We ordered a side of meatballs just so we could try them and they were out of this world. Red sauce is outstanding. The great food, just right atmosphere and friendly and attentive service make Carmine's a wonderful and memorable dining experience. Wish we had room to try more for desert than sampling the delicious piece of birthday cake brought out. You can't go wrong at Carmine's.

Noisiest restaurant I've been to in a long time. We found ourselves actually screaming across the table to hear ourselves. There was only three of us at a four-top, but all of our sentences began with "what" and then the sentence was repeated at a very high level. I don't believe I've ever had an experience like this at a fine restaurant. I think it would be ideal for large groups as they do take over the restaurant from a noise level. Not fun for us. Food and service were good, but pricey for the experience we had.

My wife and I visited Chicago for a 4-day weekend for our first anniversary, and had high hopes for this restaurant. We always get a calamari appetizer everywhere we dine (when available) so were excited when we read specific comments about how good it was. Sad to say, we were disappointed with the calamari at Carmine's more than anything else. The pieces were too large, very chewy, heavily battered, and almost tasted like they were pulled out of the freezer or deep fried in old oil. Was not a good start to an overall average meal. The complimentary bread with oil/parmesan was probably the best part, although risotto entree was decent. My wife's lasagna was just so-so. For what we spent, we expected much more.

Always great food and service was spot on. Didn't love the check in process though... there was an outside hostess who seemed to do nothing as there was a long line to check in and there was no real distinction between those with and without reservations. We were told to wait in the check in line but others were walking straight in without waiting causing it to take a good 15-20 minutes to tell them we were there for our reservation. Once we did we were seated almost immediately. We went on a Saturday night with reservations at 8:15 for 4.

Our reservations were for Saturday night before the marathon. Big mistake on our part and more mistakes on their part. I am sure they have dealt with this in the past and should either take less reservations or warm people. Food was not as advertised on the menu, probably because of volume, pasta portions were tiny as a side to eggplant and chicken parm. Waiter was frazzled we never got out extra cheese, oil or butter for bread, waiter never checked back after we got our meals. I would try again on a non marathon weekend, but come on, you have done this before. Learn from your past mistakes. We did. No pasta restaurants before a marathon, unless your running.

We artived 15 minutes early for a 6:45 reservation the night before the Chicago marathon and did not get seated until 8pm. The hostess flat out kept lying to us - first it was "we are running 10 minutes behind", then it was "just a bit longer", then, "you're the next 4 top", and we still had a 30 minute wait after that last comment. The restaurant was slammed when we arrived at 6:30 - how are you supposed to honor reservations when you fill the restaurant beforehand?

The place was an absolute zoo. I ran the Chicago Marathon yesterday and booked Carmine's a week in advanced for a table of 4 so that my family and I could enjoy a big, carb-loaded Italian meal before the race. We showed up on time for a 6:45p reservation and weren't seated for about an hour. There were hundreds of people there waiting for their tables. It is beyond me why they felt the need to over book. It was a terrible experience waiting and arguing with a hungry crowd to get the hostesses attention. I am embarresed that I took my family there and do not plan on going back in the future.

We went to Carmine's the night before the Chiacgo Marathon. We had no problem with our reservation. The place was packed. Our server was great, but the food was just alright. For the prices charged (perhaps they saw the runners coming), the servings were large, but the food was only mediocre. I'd solidly classify this as a tourist trap.

This was our first time at Carmine's (we were visiting Chicago). A friend in Omaha recommended it to us. There are MANY Italian restaurants in Chicago - we loved this one! Not the place for a romantic dinner or a cheap bowl of pasta. But delicious food, server was very knowledgeable about ingredients and preparation, and we appreciated that. Loud and crowded, but fun. Requested a table in a quiet section and was placed in a room above the second floor that was so noisy I could not hear my dinner date. The table we were seated at had only 3 chairs which I feel threw off the dynamic of the table itself. The tablecloth was dirty and spotted (I have pictures). We were brought bread and then we waited 5 minutes for plates to eat said bread. On the upside the food we ordered came out quick. I ordered fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and broccoli. I was given broccolini with my pasta instead and the sauce was very watery, not thick as it's supposed to be. My dates cheese stuffed ravioli was good. The server and busboy were friendly and attentive. I expected better from a rosebud restaurant partner.
