  • "A little hard to find parking on the weekend, but arrive early (10:00 ish) and it won't be too bad. We ate outside. The weather was good, the food was excellent, the service was excellent, and the company superb. We hung out for quite a while after brunch and were never made to feel rushed."

  • "Everything we ordered was fantastic and the service was impeccable - my only compliant was the loudness of the pianist/singer. We were seared in the bar area and Even our waitor made a comment that he was a loud - which made our conversation with table mates difficult ."

  • "Unfortunatley, we were both not impressed with the food. Chicken Parm far too thick, ravioli was fair by no means excellent. Both entrees came with a side of pasta which we were unable to substitute with a salad. Im not sure why they would serve a side pasta with a pasta dish. Luckily, only 1 side pasta was brought to the table, we asked the server to not bring the second one once he relized it was forgotten. The portions are huge if your interested in eating a ton of food instead of some quality food. We also did order a bottle of wine the table but our server brought 2 glasses. Sadly, this was my first 'fair-poor' meal in Chicago. We will definately not return."

  • "Came here with co-workers..the service, the food, down to the bussers and food runners, were awesome. Will definitely be back soon."

  • "Sat outdoors at a small table where the menus had to be placed on the ground in order to make room for our drinks. Food was good. Excessive amount of calamari. Don't get it if it's only for two of you. Entrees were great but it took forever to get the bill. We were anxious to leave though because it was pretty cramped and it started to get noisy. Overall it was a 3/5 star experience. There's better places though."

  • "If you want a spot to see the world walk by, and feel in the center of all the beautiful people, take an outside table at Carmines. If possible, take one on the south side of the patio, away from the sidewalk noise and commotion and under the awning. The server expertly suggested we share entrees, which was great for the budget and given the portion size, a really good idea. The ladies room has an attendant! so you might want to bring tip money if you take the linen towel from her (although no need to do so), since there is also a paper towel dispenser."

  • "Service was very slow with no apologies. The waiter Never apologize and was unwilling or unable to make simply menu accommodations. Wine was good as well as the pasta dish. Good place to have drinks and listen to music in the bar area. Very noisy but okay for a Saturday night."

  • "Our food was fabulous at Carmine's. I had the veal marsala and my husband had the veal parm. Both delicious. We went for dinner and the place was packed. There was a piano player performing during dinner who was very good. A little loud but very nice. I would highly recommend this place if you like Italian food."

  • "Brunch menu limited. Portions are big but my sandwich was just okay. Wife loves the vodka sauce her all time favorite. I have to admit one of the best."

  • "My party of 6 had a very nice evening which was totally ruined by the valet service. BE VERY CAUTIOUS OF THE VALET SERVICE. They damaged my new car and stole a medallion off the rear tailgate in doing so. I made a police report and getting no cooperation from the CAPITAL VALET SERVICE with regard to fixing my vehicle. I will NEVER go back to the restaurant and use the valet service again."

  • "This is one of our favourite restaurants when we are in Chicago. Unfortunately last time we got a bad waitress. She was'nt really intressted in us as costumers/guests."

  • "We always walk away satisfied! Chicken parm, eggplant parm, veal saltumbucco, all excellent. Most entrees come with a side of pasta, get the sauteed brocolini to accompany everything! During the warm part of the year dine al fresco and take advantage of a great cityscape. The people watching on Rush is incomparable and the view of the famed "Viagra Triangle" is second to none. Service is very friendly and efficient. I've eaten here more than 20 times and will be back again soon!"

  • "1st time dining at here we didn't know what to expect. When we looked at the menu we all thought the food was very pricey, however when we received our food, we were shocked to see how large the plates were. Each meal is enough to share with 2 ppl. The food was very flavorful and tasty. We ordered their eggplant salad as an appetizer and it was excellent. We all equally loved that dish. My sis and I split the Chicken Calabrese and the Veal Saltimbocca, and they were both delicious. That was probably the best chicken I have ever had. My mom ordered the brick chicken and my dad ordered the salmon special of the day. Unfortunately, the salmon was too dry, and the brick chicken wasn't cooked enough. Over all we will def eat there again."

  • "Waiter had a bad attitude and rushed us through our meal. He didn't deliver on half of our requests including simple things like more bread! He did not pay attention to the food allergy at the table, and the person with the allergy had to wait an additional 45 min after everyone else got served to get their food right. Not coming back!"

  • "Calamari is a must - easy the highest quality and largest I've ever seen. Our waiter, Salvatore, was incredible. He did all of our ordering for us, and nailed every recommendation. Great place - only complaint was after the live music started it was hard to talk across the table. But the music was fantastic, so well worth it."

  • "The experience at Carmine's never disappoints. The food and service are impeccable, and the drinks and wine list unique. While some may consider it pricey, it backs it up with the whole package. I'd highly recommend to anyone!"

  • "Table requested was not met. We had party of six well in advance and in person. Table wound up being inside rear patio facing wall under TV. Muscles were cold, veal tasted like patties (certainly not pounded) as I am used to...leftover issue storing w/ hostess / valet as we would have liked to walk. Server was very accommodating (Luis) and water refills good."

  • "We have visited many restaurants on our frequent trips to Chicago but not Carmine's. My husband didn't think he would enjoy it and prefers other restaurants in the Gold Coast area. His veal was spectacular and they offered a gluten free pasta for me. The best of both worlds"

  • "Had a group of girls out to Carmines for a birthday dinner. Everything from the service to the food was fantastic. After dinner the manager grabbed us and brought us to an outside table in the front and gave us a bottle of Prosecco. Fantastic!"

  • "My wife ,son, and I had a great times. Good music along with great food. Huge portions, you will not be able to finish. It is a bit noisy but fun. This is what eating out in Chicago should be. There is seating outside as well as downstairs. We were downstairs and loved the vibe."

  • "Great atmosphere -- lots of energy at this member of the Rosebud family of restaurants. Entrée of tortellini carbonara was the best ever -- portions are gigantic -- enough for two. Even the house salad (kind of bland) was large enough for two people. Be sure to make a reservation. We were seated at the exact time we requested. Walk-ins were accepted but had to wait a minimum of 30 minutes. This place is very crowded -- no room to spare between tables. Our spot was adequate, though we were right next to the kitchen where beverages were prepared and final touches were added to food -- it was a constant parade of wait staff squeezing by with trays of food. Crème brulee to die for. Nice wine list. Wonderful, memorable evening! We will return."

  • "We live in the neighborhood of Carmine's but rarely have gone there as expecting it to be too touristy. However now after two visits, we have found it to be a place where the good is great, service friendly and prompt and drinks generous. We had a waiter this past week that was just great even though the place was packed. My husband and I shared a Caesar salad upon the recommendation of the waiter as he said it was large. Then we both had a chicken dish. The portion was again large but just terrific. We are so happy we have decided to check out Carmine's and look forward to our next dining experience."

  • "The poor service you hear about in all these reviews are definitely true. I feel like we were often forgotten. BUT when it comes to the food, they basically serve you two portions so everyone is walking out with leftovers which is awesome because you can enjoy their great food on another day."

  • "Best Italian food I have experienced in years. Loved the experience. Service pathetic. Took appetizers away. After 35 minutes, waiter stopped by to say food on way (after serving next table who arrived after us). That was when he placed order with kitchen. Food arrived 10 minutes later."

  • "Carmine's has delicious food with extremely LARGE portion sizes. This would be a great place for a group or family to share. Our service was poor except from the bus boy. Would only recommend based on quality of food, not quality of service. We were traveling from Florida and were interested in learning more about Carmine and it's sister's properties, but our waitress had NO interest in explaining or going into details."

  • "Very loud inside with indifferent service. Food was just OK."

  • "Food was great and portions were huge. I was pretty much stuffed with just calimari & the house salad. Took half of my dinner home. Great time!"

  • "We arrived early for our 8:30 reservation, but Carmine's sat us immediately! Our server was very pleasant & accommodating. Since we were a party of 5 ladies, one of our ladies decided to order a couple of meat entrees, a pasta dish, & a risotto dish. We shared & all were delicious! We were not rushed by our server & he even gave the birthday girls a dessert for each! It was a wonderful time."

  • "Carmines is a wonderful location, especially if you can get a table outside in the summer. However, the food is a bit over priced."

  • "Love the fish salad and the eggplant salad. Great outdoor patio."

  • "When I arrived with my two girls we had to wait several minutes before anyone noticed and seated us. We were seated next to a large round table of businesspeople. We had three different waiters come to our table and they seemed very busy and not particularly friendly. We finally pinned one down to ask questions and give our order. The table next to us was very lively and had several waiters hovering around. Yet it was hard for us to get someone to bring us bread, then awhile longer to get butter and another while to get parmesan. I got the feeling that since I wasn't ordering lots of bottles of wine and big entrees that my value as a customer was diminished. The food was fine but the service certainly took away from my experience."
