Diner Reviews
  • "Five star experience; ambience, service,& food. Evening started with complimentary sparkling wine. Fieldgreen salad & rolls & seasoned oil wet my appetite. Filet mignon was my entre of choice & done perfectly to taste. Being unfamiliar with Portuguese wines, waiter suggested Aneto (Douro) as a rich, full bodied red dry wine to compliment the filet. Fine choice -- Thank you Adalild. Have spent many an evening at Carmello's many years ago. This was my first visit in over ten years, & Carmello's has been totally remodeled. This was a most comfortable, pleasant dining experience. Thank you Alice & Miguel Pires. Looking forward to a return visit in the very near future. So many wonderfully appealing seasonal entres to try!"

  • "We were seated as soon as we arrived, greeted within a few minutes and with the exception that the waiter brought the wrong drink to one of us and the wrong salad to another the experience was very good and we will dine at Carmello’s again."

  • "I have been a big carmellos fan since the 90's and it has only gotten better and better. Highly recommend for any special occasion or just a way to show your significant other a nice time."

  • "We made last minute reservations for my wifes BD. The food was great, ambience excellent & good service. The manager Nick, who I've know over the past two years coming to Carmello's, was great as usual. Even though it was last minute Nick knew my wifes favorite desert "creme breaule" & gave us a complimentary desert complete with candle. This is why we continue to dine at Carmello's. It's become one of our favorite places in Old Town."

  • "Food was great. Wait staff was attentive and nice, if a few were a little unpolished (but made up for it with effort). The wine list badly needs organizing."

  • "Strangers to the area and not knowing where to eat we wandered in after we saw a couple at a window table having a great looking meal. No reservations - No problem we were seated promptly. Had a great meal with great service. We have been back again and again as we visit the area twice a year. Sad to say (for other restaurants) we have not looked at any other places to eat. The only surprises have been the extra nice touches. Like samples of wine when we couldn't make up our minds. We have turned dinner here into a special occasion. . . . . I almost forgot - Absolutely the best Calamari I have ever had and I've had it all over the world."

  • "Great for anyone who desires well thought out, delicious, fresh, beautifully-presented, DID I ALREADY SAY DELICIOUS?, creative, filling meals! Carmello's has undergone a transformation (had not visited in almost a year due to a bad experience)! Did I mention the after-dinner coffee? Nice brew...yum! Did I mention the dessert selection? WOW! If you want to go casual you can. If you want to dress up and make it a formal dining experience you can. All are welcome here and service with a smile."

  • "Only complaint is the food did take a long time to come out. Although they do not have a kids menu they offered Pizza, Pasta, Spaghetti & Meatballs for my 10 and 6 year old's. We declined the desert menu and the waiter very nicely gave a piece of cake in a to go box because my daughter wanted to order desert. No prompting... all on his own. Yes I would say the service was very friendly and courteous."

  • "We love Carmelo's! The food is always delicious and the service great. My only complaint was that when they seated us, no one else was there, but they seated us at a table in the middle like we were on display. Very awkward. They did honor our request to be moved to a booth."

  • "I always prefer to pick a local wine with my meal which I did with this meal. It was not a good choice for the entree I had. The red wine was overpowered with tannins and it did not compliment my Filet Mignon. I ordered another glass of a different grape and vineyard to finish my meal. This took a long time to be served and I waited to finish my entree while others in my party waited politely. We both orders filets medium rare. Mine was perfect, however my partner's was over cooked slightly. Overall a good experience, salads fresh and everything seemed to be made on site with the best of ingredients."

  • "Carmellos is a fabulous place. A wonderful part of Old Town Manassas, the food was superb, as always, and the wine was simple: we asked our waiter for a Portuguese red that would go with our meal, and he brought us a fantastic wine."

  • "We have come to Carmello's a half a dozen times, and every time our food has been to our satisfaction. The menu is not very extensive, so we probably have eaten almost every option in it already, but every time what we ordered has been prepared correctly and tastefully. The wine list however is of good size and with very good Italian selection. I have found difficult to find a place where a proper classic martini is served correctly but Carmello's did it as a classic should have been served. In our reservation I noted the occasion to be my wife's B-Day and the waitress brought a nicely presented dessert with a candle at the end of our dinner. Being a Sunday evening it was only about 20% full so noise level was obviously very low."

  • "Great food and service... the manager came out to talk to us when I asked a question about the beer selection, he was very friendly and helpful. They were a little slow getting things out to us which was surprising because it didn't seem too busy, but that was okay because we were not in a hurry."

  • "Valentine's Day is a very busy day for restaurants and I was pleasantly surprised with our experience. Seating was a bit later than stated on the reservation, but not unbearable. They served complimentary champagne to the waiting diners, although we don't drink, a nice touch. I was pleased that they had their full menu available instead of a prix fixe' set-menu. Food was excellent, and delivered timely given the large number of patrons. Totally recommend the crab and corn chowder. Sea bass was just ok though."

  • "Carmello's food, service and atmosphere are absolutely wonderful. The attention to detail by the owner is appreciated. From the appetizers to the entrees to the desserts, they never fail. We can't wait to spend the evening there again."

  • "We had a group of five couples celebrate Valentine's Day on the 15th of February. The restaurant had a very nice table set for us with room for everyone to enjoy their dinners and get in and out of the table very easily. The menu was superb -- we tried almost all of the first and main courses and all were excellent. We were greeted by a very attentive staff and served complimentary Portuguese sparkling wine (similar to Cava) when we arrived. Each lady was presented with a red rose also!! Highly recommend Carmello's -- especially for a Date night. This was our fourth or fifth time here -- but first for Valentine's Day -- andf everytime Carmello's has been superb."

  • "We had a fantastic Valentine's meal! We were brought complimentary champagne and I was given a rose shortly after we were seated. The ambiance was warm and diners were happy. Special cocktails were great. Our meal was fantastic. Best Oysters Rockefeller I've ever had, lobster bisque was delicious, tho short on lobster pieces. Filet was done to perfection, seared on the outside and juicy on the inside, and was served with excellent scallops wrapped in bacon. Chilean sea bass was exquisitely seasoned and cooked. Dessert of chocolate stout cake with espresso mousse was worth every calorie! Servers were friendly and attentive. Kitchen was perhaps overwhelmed, as the room was packed, with a bit of wait between courses. We will return soon!"

  • "Based on our dishes and what I saw at the table of four next to me, everything comes with mashed potatoes. That to me means filler. Not only will those potatoes fill you up, but it makes the plate look full. The pork shank was as good as I've had it in gastropubs in Europe, but here, double the price. My girlfriends steak was done as she wanted and was nothing special. The food was solid. Service staff were friendly, but waitress hard to find. But, the main walk-away feeling was summed up best by my girlfriend, "would you pay $100 for this meal again?". No, I wouldn't. That is the bill for one shared appetizer, one alcoholic drink each, main courses, no dessert. Sorry, won't go back."

  • "My friend and I both ordered the VEAL with asparagus, sauteed mushrooms in Madeira wine demi-glace, atop a bed of goat cheese mashed potatoes. It was absolutely fabulous! I would have liked a bit more salt in mine, but there are no shakers on any of the tables. I did not want to offend the chef by asking for salt. The veal came in thin slices, standing on end, laying on the potatoes. I would have done well without as many potatoes, as I really did not taste the goat cheese and the potatoes were a bit gluey. I have never tasted veal that was any better! Overall, I would order it again with pleasure! Save room for dessert. Everything on the menu is well thought out and executed sublimely. The meal, with wine and tip $50-$75 per person."

  • "I was expecting to see the old familiar restaurant when surprised by a new modern interior and menu. The traditional Italian and Portuguese menu items have been replaced by a seasonal menu with selected items. The food was great, but the room seemed rather contained due to the interior design choices and creating another more casual sister restaurant next door and party room on the other side. Our party of four enjoyed our appetizers, entrees and the desserts were great. Will go back again even though most entrees were between $28-32."

  • "I like the setting of the restaurant. They know how to make a diner feel welcome specially with the complimentary sparkling wine. The servings are generous but I do have some suggested improvements. They need to revamp the lobster bisque and clam chowder. Dining is also visual and the colors of the soups weren't very appetizing, it didn't look like bisque or chowder. The clam chowder was too salty and overpowered by corn and other ingredients. The braised beef needs a tad more seasoning. lastly, if they want to be more upscale, they need to have a customized take home bag. A plain plastic bag you get from a take out Chinese restaurants just doesn't cut it."

  • "We have eaten several times at Carmellos. This time I was very disappointed with my selection. Airline chicken was extremly salty and overcooked. It will be nice to have a few fish choices. The menu is quite heavy. I realize this is a seasonal thing, but lighter dishes are always welcome!"

  • "My wife and I brought six colleagues to Carmello's for dinner after an event. The service was very good, the complimentary sparkling wine was a nice touch and the food was excellent. Several of the party who had the lobster ravioli declared it to be the best ravioli that they had eaten in any restaurant. We were seated at a table for eight and it was easy to have a conversation amongst all of the group. I would definitely recommend Carmello's as place to eat in Manassas, VA."

  • "Carmelo's is a small bistro in downtown Mananas, VA. The menu has a Portuguese slant, but there are selections for everyone. All of our entrees - 2 fish and 2 meat dishes were well prepared and presented. The sauces were tasty but didn't overpower the main attraction. The pork shank, which I don't often see on menus, was excellent, as is the wine list. Recommend Carmelo's for a no-rush, quiet and excellent dinner."

  • "Many people have told us that we needed to go here. They were right! I don't know what took us so long. The service was amazing and the food was some of the best we have ever had. It is pricey but was worth every penny."

  • "We had reservations for 6:15. There was a festive atmosphere; hostesses were dressed in sparkly attire. The restaurant wasn't crowded when we arrived and the servers were attentive. We had a complimentary glass of champagne before our meal. We each hada glass of wine. Lobster bisque wasn't bad, but I have had better. My husband had lobsterand filet mignon and I had the sea bass. The sea bass was tasty, but the accompanying potato cake, beans were average. My husband enjoyed his entree."

  • "The bread, calamari, & desserts were very good. My date & I ordered the Lobster Ravioli ($28). It did not have the wow factor in the presentation as it looked dry. It tasted okay but we expected better than average. The lobster bisque was very different. Generally it's a creamy soup, this soup had a more clear base which was fine but maybe it should be be called something other than lobster bisque. We enjoyed the chocolate hazelnut cake and bread pudding."

  • "We went to celebrate our anniversary, having received an email offering us a free appetizer and dessert. We were given complimentary glasses of Champagne, while waiting for our table. When seated, we found a bottle of wine waiting for us that our children purchased. The meal was very good. The Smoked Salmon Carpaccio was a great starter. The pan seared Chilean Sea Bass and the Veal Agnolotti were very well prepared entrees, and the cheese and chocolate hazelnut cakes were nice ends to the meal. Then the bill came. The appetizer and one dessert were deducted, but the bottle of wine was on the bill. I pointed that out. There server brought me a corrected bill. The wine had been removed, but the appetizer was now on. Try #3 got it correct."

  • "While the ambiance was festive and the service very pleasant and prompt, the food was mediocre at best. The lobster bisque was too salty and the lobster ravioli rather flavorless. The wild boar was good though overpriced. The seasonal beet salad was delicious as were the olive and bread starters. Sadly, however, at $200 for three with 2 glasses of wine and 1 cocktail, given the lackluster quality of the food, it was not worth it."
