Beautiful Art Deco design, reminiscent of a 1940's New York nightclub, with romantic lighting, fantastic cuisine and excellent classic cocktails. "Mad Men" vibe with great live entertainment. Nothing like it in the DC area. Consistently rsted one of the most romantic restaurants in the city as well as best night out. Located just outside of Old Town Alexandria between two metro stops. Parking Garage underneath the Club as well as plenty of street parking.

We made reservations at the Carlyle club on the spur of the moment last Friday night. The fabulous hubcaps were the headline entertainment and believe me - of it weren't for this caliber of performer at the "art deco" dinner club, all one would hear would be crickets - and the grumbling pf thr bumbling, stumbling, and rumbling service staff. As a couple, we're were seated at a table for 4 when 2 other tables - fit for two were available. No problem - said the hostess - who cleared the remaining two place settings but left the filled water glasses - in case we got thirstier. 5 minutes later - well befor out waiter awoke - a second hostess - I use the term loosely- seated a second couple ( very nice) and told us the first girl "screwed up."

The Carlyle Club seems more like a place to go to listen to jazz and dance rather than a place for fine dining. The wine list is small and the restaurant was out of the first bottle that we chose.

I don't know what a "foodie" is, but the food was good, jazz was great, and the evening was spoiled because the restaurant hosts large groups that are not accommodated in separate rooms but are seated in the main dining area. These groups generate too much noise for people not in the groups to enjoy the music and potentially romantic setting.

We went at 6:30 to get 1,000 Opentable points, but the club wasn't ready for guests that early, at least the wait staff wasn't. There was a private party going on, and it seemed like only one waiter was covering the floor. Despite questionable service, the venue was beautiful, and a jazz trio added to a terrific ambiance. The prime rib was great as well. All in all, it was worth it, but maybe start a little later than we did.

An old fashioned dinner club! Light music, then live music, fun! I ordered from the appetizer section, starting with the portabella mushroom stack-delicious, followed by the ahi tuna and a side of sautéed spinach. Perfect! My husband had the prime rib. The food was fine but the overall experience was the reason we would return.
