Diner Reviews
  • "The restaurant was not busy, yet our service was slow. The menu seems to have been pared down since the last time we were here. There weren't many seafood dishes on the menu; no whitefish, just a seafood mix and salmon."

  • "Overall experience was good. One person in our party of four was disappointed in her entree, saying it did not match the menu description. Note to owners: clean the front door and windows! Bad first impression. If I had brought special guests, I would have felt embarrassed by the looks of the entry. Please know that this counts!"

  • "We went on Friday night and they have penny wine. Your first three glasses each cost only a penny when you purchase an entre. If you check in on Foresquare, you get a free dessert too. The food was delicious!"

  • "We enjoyed Carlucci this week just because it was Thursday! They have consistently great food, and their service is outstanding. I'd recommend them to anyone who's looking for a delicious food at moderate prices."

  • "Food was very good along with the service. The lunch specials were great"

  • "I noticed there is an outdoor dining area which looks inviting for better weather conditions once they arrive. The interior decor is nice and upon entry you are greeted by the hostess. The service was good but I was disappointed by the amount of noise coming from the bar area. The level of noise generated by the band playing made conversation nearly impossible even if the person was sitting directly across or next to you. Definitely something that turns me off from dining at an italian restaurant. Granted we were sat right near the bar area, but the noise does travel. The food was great but the bread was a shocker; it wasn't your traditional freshly baked bread for dipping but appeared to be bread prepared and supplied by Panera."

  • "We know when we choose Carlucci's for dinner the food will be delicious, the service friendly and attentive and the ambiance warm and inviting. One of our favorite local restaurants. It's a great choice for lunch, too."

  • "We went for their Friday penny wine night. I recommend the fried calamari or iron skillet shrimp for an appetizer. We started out with a tuscan style vegetable soup although the zucchini soup on special sounded good as well. I had the mezzaluna salad while my husband prefers the caesar. I also recommend the beet salad. I had the eggplant parmigiana that comes with a side of spaghetti and never a disappointment. My husband had the grilled wild striped bass with spring pea risotto, roasted knob onions, meyer lemon and olive oil. It was delicious! After dinner I had a cappucino which came with a delightful biscotti. We had the dessert on special which was a dark chocolate cup filled with chocolate cake, fresh berries and prosecco zabaione."

  • "If you want a nice meal, especially outdoors in the summer, this is a great place to dine. Not too expensive but with all the accoutrements of a high-end Fine-dining spot. The food here is consistently good and the wait staff is very attentive and personable. Pasta and seafood are my two favorites here and are always done well as are the "towers" (appetizers)."

  • "OpenTable listed Carlucci's as a "Chef's Week" restaurant; reserved Saturday. After being seated, our very nice waiter introduced himself, asking if we had any questions about the menu. Told him we had booked on OpenTable for "Chef's Week" and the special menu. He looked surprised; knew nothing about it. Excused himself and came back to explain he had good/bad news. Good news being they do have Chef's Week; bad news, not until Sunday. Apologized & offered a free appetizer. The menu offered a variety of seafood, beef and italian dishes. My husband raved about his Tilapia; I ordered the pork tenderloin w/whipped potatoes and mixed veggies. Loved the veggies, however, not crazy about the pork; (fatty) would not recommend my choice."

  • "One person at our table ordered lasagna. When it came to the table it was flat and the bottom noodles were burnt. Couldn't even cut it. It had the meat sauce all around the outside of the plate which was brown looking (kind of like dog food). The other two meals were delicious. After having to wait for a lasagna replacement of a different dinner they didn't even offer a free drink for having to wait."

  • "Had the Walleye Pike special. Portion was small and very greasy, like a tavern fish fry, but 3X the price and not as good. Arancini appetizer tasted okay, but very small portion. My friend had the pork tenderloin which was good. Very good service and the best part was the band in the bar afterwards. I may go back again and try an Italian dish."

  • "Everything about our dining experience was enjoyable. We had a friendly, pleasant waiter, appetizer was good, entree very good, dessert very good and we were left alone to talk. We were not rushed and were asked for drink refills only once. I always recommend Carlucci's for reasonably priced delicious food. Keep doing what you're doing."

  • "Ambience would have been rated higher and Noise Level lower if we had a table or booth further away from the kitchen."

  • "We've been there several times in the past and each time is a real dining pleasure. Although the courtyard was covered with snow, the Roman like fountain still looked majestic. The wait staff is courteous and helpful. The food is excellent. We plan to go back many more times."

  • "Reservation at 645pm. Dinner not sereved until after 9pm. I had to call our waiter over and explain that we did have other plans for the night. Not a busy night, and plenty of staff. not sure why we had to wait. I have been to Italy, and I get how no one is in a hurry over there. Nothing gets done quickly in Italy, so I guess they just wanted you to have the full Italian experience. By the way the food was just so, so. I was looking forward to the Burrata because you can't get that a lot of places and it was very disappointing. The porcehetta was ok , The carrots terrible as they were the awful "baby" carrots you buy by the bags. AWFUL! The mushrooms were great. Fresh, large, not overcooked. very good indeed. But, alas, we won't be back."

  • "I had high hopes for Carlucci. My family and I were celebrating my youngest daughter's birthday. The menu was very limited. However, we were still hopeful. When our food arrived, my entree, chicken piccata, was overly salty. The only flavor I could taste was the salt and an odd lemon flavor. My husband and two daughters had to add salt to their entrees for any kind of flavor. When you charge high prices for your entrees, you should be able to get good food. Needless to say, we will never return to Carlucci. The food was awful."

  • "We had a great time at the DG Carlucci during Chicago Restaurant week. For the 33 buck dinner we got FOUR courses not the usual three, and all were quite good. PS We go to this Carlucci's fairly often, and in summer, they have a great outdoor patio, frequently with music."

  • "This was our 1st time to Carlucci's. We tried it as a family because they participated in Restaurant Week and I have to say -- the restaurant went all out in making its restaurant week offerings both diverse and wonderful. It seemed like they took the very most popular items from their menu and made a 4 course meal available for only $33. It was just a great opportunity to try the food broadly and we really enjoyed it. The service was excellent too!"

  • "This was my first dinning experience here. The food was very good but even as good as it was it was overpriced. After a tip my bill was well over $100. That included 2 glasses of inexpensive wine. Outrageous for the experience. I will not be back. Many options for similar food and ambience. The wait staff was friendly and prompt. Our waitress was unfamiliar with the menu and could not describe the daily specials or the Chicago Restaurant Week menu. However, she was very polite and pleasant."

  • "Food was very good. Restaraunt week menu had to be asked for but food was excellent. Serive by Nick was very attentive. I had pork special that was very tasty. Wife had tha Alfredo made with fresh cheese. Excellent also.plus penny wines on fridaynight."

  • "I had the Calamarata Gamberita and it was spectacular! It was very rich and I took the other half home for lunch the next day, when it was also exceptionally good. My husband had the Costolette di Manzo (short ribs) and they were also REALLY good. We shared the cheesecake (NOT your average cheesecake) for the dessert and almost took a leftover box for that, too!"

  • "Despite 1 fresh foot of snow and (minus) -14 F below temperature, they stayed open to serve 3 tables who braved the weather!"

  • "Carlucci has the most tender calamari around. Nothing like a bowl of their minestrone to warm you on these cold winter days. My favorite salads are the beet salad and the mezzaluna salad. We enjoyed the chicken parmigiana, the eggplant parmigiana, the radiatori pasta and the escolar on special. The kids love the homemade mac and cheese. Friday is wine for a penny night but Saturdays they have a band in the bar. We love The Amazing Brando performing magic for the family on Sundays. We love the Tiramisu and the chocolate lava cake is delicious too. Another version of the tiramisu is the lady fingers dipped in limoncello which is on special some nights. Our grandson enjoyed going with Genti into the kitchen to make his own ice cream sundae."

  • "Restaurant was nice. Waiter service was good. Found limited menu disappointing! Waited a long time for our meals and when received was again disappointed in the taste and quality of both our meals. I would have expected better from a nice looking restaurant. Not saying all the food there is bad, but the two dinners we selected left a lot to be desired as far as taste was concerned. We will not be returning..Sorry! Too many other good Italian restaurants available that I would recommend first. Our high hopes for this restaurant were dashed when the meals arrived. Food prices were reasonable but drinks were over priced."
