A word from Carlitos Gardel
Carlitos Gardel Steakhouse is a family-owned and operated restaurant offering the finest in authentic Argentine cuisine and hospitality since 1996. With an extensive menu of personal family recipes from Buenos Aires, the restaurant serves only certified USDA prime cuts of grass-fed beef and sustainably sourced ingredients prepared the Argentine way.

Sommelier Max Bozoghlian directs a multiple award-winning wine program showcasing the largest cellar of Argentine wines on the West Coast and several rare and boutique labels.

Named in honor of Carlos Gardel—an iconic cultural figure in Argentine history and the paternal voice of tango—the restaurant was recently highlighted by Irene Virbila of the Los Angeles Times as one of the city’s top steakhouses. Its 1930s-inspired ambiance is a nod to the “Golden Age” of Buenos Aires and has been a favorite of many locals, celebrities, and Argentine visitors for years.

Diner Reviews
  • "We had a wonderful early dinner, so it was not busy. Everything was great. The only negative was that someone, I presume the owner, was sitting at an outside table smoking a cigar. "

  • "Excellent service. We got to the restaurant a few minutes.I was apologetic about it. Told the host that we were on a tight time schedule. The server was made aware of our situation. Sure enough the restaurant accommodated us and we got out of the restaurant within our requested time. With the time constraint the quality of food did not suffer - scrumptious meal!!!"

  • "A perfect dinner, the service was adorable, the food exquisite (a memorable lamb rack), perfectly cooked, and the wine was superb (awesome list of Argentinian wines). A total must, and one of the best dinners I had in the past year."

  • "Gardel's is saved for special family events. We are always happy and never disappointed when we leave Gardel's after a delicious meal, graciously served. I am not a foodie and do not enjoy fussy food. Gardel's menu has choice and variety but sensible and everything is well prepared and I enjoy every bite of my meal. If only I was more affluent and the restaurant was closer to home...I would be a more frequent visitor. I would also be living by the Pacific instead of stuck in the Valley!"

  • "Fantastic experience. We had great service, excellent grilled sweetbreads and steaks that were just to die for. I will definitely be back. It's not easy to find places that do grassfed steaks and cook them well."

  • "We went to this restaurant because of our love of Argentine food. We had the Matambre al Pollo for an appetizer and it was excellent. For entrees we had the Milanesa and the Pollo con frutas, both very typical Argentine dishes. Bot were superb. We topped it off with Panqueques dulce de leche which was incredible with housemade dulce de leche, something you rarely get even in Buenos Aires. The service was very attentive. Overall it was a lovely experience."

  • "Service as good as you would expect for the price. I've only had service like this in New York where your waiter is a professional waiter, not a writer or actor "wanna-be." Everything is quality and not hiding under butter or sauce. A real meat eaters paradise."

  • "Wonderful food. Great professional service. Attention to details. Would go back."

  • "This is now one of my favorite restaurants in LA. Wonderful food and best of all a great sommelier who suggested exquisite wines. Clearly a restaurant managed by people who care deeply about their product and service."

  • "I love this place! My wife and I first stumbled into Gardel's over 22 years ago, and it has always been a beautiful experience. Great food! (perfect gnocchi and ice cream) Great Service! (in every aspect and every person) Great Ambiance! Great Music! (Loved their musician, he put me in Argentina!) God bless Carlito Gardel's!"

  • "Nice small footprint venue with good food and service and a giant wine list."

  • "The entire experience was simply exquisite from the delectable appetizers, the mouth-watering steaks, and the scrumptious desserts to the amazing wine selection and outstanding service. We couldn't have asked for more. If you're looking for a memorable experience, this is the place to go."

  • "Stereotypical menu far from authentic Argentinian cuisine. Cheap quality OVERPRICED food items. AKA...Tourist trap."
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "We very much enjoyed our food and service. As a party of 6, I was not surprised that the service charge was automatically added (although no mention of this on the menu or signage). I was surprised that the service charge was 20%, and that it was added to the bill pre-tax, thus I paid 20% PLUS the extra percentage of the prevailing local tax. This seems a bit tricky and almost like gouging. The food was expensive - and worth the price. The tricky method of increasing the check was simply desperate on the part of the restaurant as we were the only patrons present when we arrived for lunch. Not cool."

  • "I have been to Carlitos Gardel on three occasions. And on each time the experience has been very positive. Really good food. A little noisy when the restaurant is full."

  • "Smart, caring owners. Delicious food with lovely ambiance. The piano player on a keyboard was a little odd looking and too loud but he played very well. Policy on corkage ($30!) seems punitive. But overall a terrific dining experience. We shall return."

  • "Gardel is the place for a special evening: a romantic evening, an evening of fine food and wine, an evening of being pampered."

  • "Took a friend to lunch. The empanadas were the best I have had- but the lamb chops were perfection! I will be dining there soon again!"

  • "The lamb was exquisite as always. The lingua appetizer was a pleasant new surprise. My guests were delighted, including the vegetarians. I love to bring business associates here as in this case as Carlitos is quiet and conducive to conversation. The service is wonderful and Max always chooses the right wine for us."

  • "Small, intimate setting perfect for a special night out. Came here with the bf for his birthday dinner on a Friday night and we shared the bone-in rib-eye dinner. The stuffed mushrooms and mixed salad were nice appetizers, and the wine recommendation was spot-on. Highly recommend!"

  • "My husband & I have been eating here for years now and every experience is great. Coming to Carlitos GardeI gives us a chance to relive the great memories we have of our trip to Argentina some years ago. It's a fairly small restaurant so feels quite intimate and the live music really adds to an authentic Argentine experience. The steaks are all AMAZING and cooked exactly as requested every time. The wine list seems infinite and the sommelier is very knowledgable without being stuffy or only recommending the most expensive bottles which is refreshing. Love this place and can't wait until we go again!"

  • "But small restaurant, don't bring a group or a kid"

  • "The pasta was a little too salty. The wine selection was fantastic. The manager was very friendly."
    Dined on 10/19/2013
  • "Had been there many years ago when the menu was simple, you could have conversation and the prces were moderate"
    Dined on 10/19/2013
  • "Small and intimate, with really good food, you feel like you've stepped back in time. The waiters, (in suits), are not wanna be actors working for tips. They are the sons and relatives of the owners, who take their positions very seriously and with great pride. No doubt that's why this restaurant has been so successful for twice the average LA restaurant life. Meal sizes are solid. Lamb, pricey, but amazing. Rib eye also awesome. Dulce de leche ice cream with bittersweet chocolate chips - aphrodisiac!"

  • "Never disappointed at Carlitos. Gnocci appetizer with rack of lamb entree for business lunch. Quiet place for important conversation. Great wine recommendation (we asked for moderate price) with 2007 Malbec. Thanks, Max."
