Diner Reviews
  • "This was probably the best dining experience we've ever encountered. We did the four course dining and it was perfect. Very romantic setting. The staff was amazing and the food was even better."

  • "The quality of ingredients and skilled applied to them at Carillon is impressive. This is a great choice for a relaxing fine dining evening. We chose the 7 course option, it took about 3 hours. We enjoyed every bit of it. Fantastic fine dining experience."

  • "Food overall fantastic. As New York City foodies (food snobs I suppose) we were impressed. Mero to die as was the porkchop, mussels, bacon and eggs and hamachi. Even the spinach salad was lovely - not overly dressed, great combo of the toasted pecans and maple. Only downside was the dessert. While stunning appearancewise, both failed on taste. Sponge cake bland and overwhelmed by the sorbet. What they called panna cotta was so not -- and very bad with the blue cheese. Overall though, no complaints as the rest of the meal was amazing."

  • "An outstanding dining experience. My wife, a friend and I ate here before a concert in the area. My wife had the miso marinated mero and loved it. My friend had the N.Y. strip steal and asked for it medium rare; he thought it was a little too rare and said he would probably ask for it medium if he had it to do over. I had the pork chop with cherry polenta; the pork chop was very good as well. We shared a bottle of Ben Marco Malbec which was good enough that both my wife and my friend commented on how much they liked it. For dessert, we had the panna cotta, crème brulee, and the chocolate and banana terrine. And, once again, were excellent. In addition the service was superb; attentive but not obtrusive. Excellent knowledge of the menu."

  • "This is my absolute favorite Austin restaurant! I love it even more that most people haven't heard of it. It is a true gem! We have been on three special occasions and plan to continue to do so."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Their mero is a great fish dish and very unique. Even the spinach salad was memorable. The option to select 3 dishes for $50 is great value. Loved the crab salad, the smoked pork chop. Service is great from the host (John, I think) all the way through. Very gracious. Corn fritters for dessert yesssss please. Wine selection superb and well priced."

  • "Whenever we take in an exhibit at the Blanton, it is an "excuse" to dine at Carillon. Although the high open area is not the coziest, the staff is amiable and the room becomes welcoming. The food shows an art too, without being excessively avant garde. They know that a good steak should be cooked to perfection(seared with a delicious rub) . The accompaniments on my plate, humble broccoli and fingerling potatoes, were so tasty. The escabeche also was the best pickled vegetables ever. I did not ask the others at my table if they enjoyed their meals as I could tell from the silence that all were immersed in their own foodie heaven. Dessert of corn fritters on lime curd, like donut holes, and salted butter ice cream was outstanding."

  • "The food at this restaurant is absolutely stellar. From the Amuse Bouche all the way through to the dessert corn fritters our taste buds were treated to the most decadent flavors. The lamb was probably the best entree I have ever consumed in my life. My partner and I now have a newfound love for food after this night. The waitstaff were very friendly and prompt, and the sommelier was very knowledgeable and helped us pick out the perfect wine to pair with our food. I would eat here every day if allowed."
    Dined on 3/18/2014
  • "The food was excellent, the first courses are very nice and presented so nicely followed by the main courses. The Caesar salad was superb. The scallops and sea bass were also very tasty"
    Dined on 3/13/2014
  • "This was truly one of the best meals I've ever eaten, and my husband felt the same way about his selections. All of the food was prepared perfectly, and the plates had a delicate balance of flavor that you rarely run across. The meats and fish were outstandingly fresh and tender. The cocktails were made to order - fabulous. The service was excellent as well. If I could make suggestions about The Carillon, it would be that the wine/bar list is unnecessarily huge and overwhelming (and we are wine people), and the service is a bit formal and stiff. I understand the service being what it is - if it wasn't that way, snotty people might complain. But I think it's Austin and people want a little humor with their meals."

  • "This is one of our favorite restaurants in Austin that absolutely always delivers an incredible dining experience. The service is extraordinary, John remembers us and our favorite table. Patrick always has a special wine to recommend and if you are lucky enough to have Oscar as your waiter you will have amazing service Josh's team delivers creative dishes that will have you coming back for more. Highly recommend"

  • "The food is amazing. My wife is allergic to dairy and the menu fit her need well but they were ready to adjust any ingredients as needed. I would highly recommend the Carillon to anybody that likes good food."

  • "Really great find for me in Austin - apparently a little off the beaten track, but it should be mobbed by foodies. Terrific, innovative, gorgeous to the eye, prepared within a very watchable kitchen, and served in a setting that actually gives tables enough space between them that you neither need to shout to be heard, nor whisper to not be overheard. You should go!"

  • "Our table of four had a lovely dining experience at Carillon. The pace was unrushed, yet service was attentive. Blissfully, we could carry on a conversation in a normal tone of voice, though we did go on a Wednesday when the restaurant didn't seem too busy. The food seemed expertly prepared. Presentation was impressive, and the flavor of my smoked pork chop was sublime. If you're looking for a trendy, exuberant dining experience for a lively group, the Carillon probably isn't what you want. However, if you want great food in a relaxed, peaceful atmosphere, give the Carillon a shot."

  • "I love the Carillon. It is an elegant restaurant with wonderful food, terrific service, and blessed quiet! I could hear everything that was said at our table of 8, even though people were speaking in a conversational tone. This is THE special occasion restaurant in Austin. I took 6 friends who had never been there before and they were very impressed. It's reasonably-priced ($50 for a three-course meal) and free parking in the building. And they gave the birthday boy (84) a gift certificate for a free dinner on his next visit. What more could you ask for?"

  • "great service......the waiters tend to be UT students or grad students. All interesting to talk with."

  • "We had a wonderful evening at the Carillon. Every item we had was full of unique flavors. The service and attention was consistent with the best restaurants we've been to around the world."

  • "We were immediately seated when we arrived for our 7pm reservation. When the staff learned we were celebrating our anniversary, we were given a flute of champagne. Water was filled and bread and butter were brought out. We chose the 3 course menu with wine pairings. There were several options. I chose the scallop dish and the sashimi dish for my hot and cold dishes. My husband also had the scallops. They were perfect with the prosciutto and grapefruit sections. The wine pairing for the scallops was the best of the three. My entrée was the Moroccan spiced lamb chops. I can't remember when I've ever had better lamb! A delightful celebration shared with an excellent staff!"

  • "Carillon gave us an unforgettable, romantic evening. My husband and I were celebrating a belated Valentine's Day and my birthday. The staff went out if their way to make sure we had a lovely evening together. They even gave us a certificate for my birthday to use @ another time. We would like to also try their breakfast. Food was so delicious and service was great!"

  • "Great everything and will come again. The only fault is the slowness. Took too long over 2 hours."
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "The Carillon can't adverise except through word of mouth........this fine dining restaurant is truely in a class by itself. The Chef is amazing and turns out food that is as spectacular in taste as it is in it's presentation......I was in food heaven with the imaginative flavors brought about with the use of ingredients that are not typically blended together....the atmosphere was comfortably elegant and the servers were excellent in terms of tasks and recommendations....for dessert the.try olive oil sponge cake with pea custard ,bacon brittle and mascarpone...It will blow you away in terms of taste and surprise....I kid you not...."

  • "This place was beautiful, amazing and the food was absolutely wonderful! It is pricey for small servings but was well worth it. Me and my husband went for a valentines dinner, you will need to make reservations. All the staff was very nice and knew everything from the menu to a T. I 100% recommend this place!"

  • "Good food attentive wait staff although service is a little slow. You have to know where you're going in the conference center- signage is almost nonexistent"
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Ordered SEARED SCOLLOPS for $16. The scollops themselves (all two of them) were tasty, but the almonds, crispy prosciutto, dill and grapefruit did not complement or improve Ordered GLAZED QUAIL for $14. The sauce was excellent, quail itself was not tender, but not bad... could have been improved by paring it with (wilted lettuce? ...pear?) Ordered COLORADO RACK OF LAMB for $32. Lamb was tender excellent. Pairings were so-so."

  • "Everything was great from start to finish. This is not a trendy place but more of a hidden gem. It's not over crowded and loud. Just perfect for a romantic dinner when you want to be able to talk without shouting. The food and service were superb."

  • "I can't praise this restaurant enough. The service was warm, friendly, and attentive; made us feel like we were the only one there. The food was outstanding. Every dish was a favorite, and we walked away definitely wanting more. We tried to six course tasting menu with wine pairing. Like I mentioned, every dish was outstanding. The wine's were delicious and paired excellently with every dish. Cannot wait to go back!"

  • "Was in Austin, TX for business. Found this place on the internet. Quiet place virtually on campus at U of Texas. You can order as much or little as you want. Had scallops, prepared perfectly. Overall everything was very good. Would definitely go back with a bigger apetite"

  • "The food and the service were both flawless. Highly recommended."

  • "Interesting food prepared creatively. I would put it up against the best in Austin. All delicious. Service very friendly and knowledgeable. There's no escaping the awareness that you're near UT where everything has to be able to handle groups but the spacious venue is a nice alternative to the cramped dining at other hot spots."

  • "The Carillon was fairly empty on this Wednesday night. The host greeted us very kindly and enthusiastically. He was the only one from a service standpoint that was great. He even brought us a couple of glasses of champagne unsolicited and toasted our engagement. The waiter was nice and prompt to begin with but would disappear for long stretches. The only things that we ordered that were GREAT were the Escolar and the "Bacon and eggs" (porkbelly). We had broccoli soup "compliments of the chef" that was also outstanding. Outside of that, all else just ok including the lamb chops and mussels. Good wine list and not ridiculously overpriced. Kitchen staff was loud and seemingly oblivious to how distracting they were in a very quiet restaurant."

  • "Exquisitely prepared food! Unusual, always delicious. I walked away feeling Happy. It was a dining experience."
    Dined on 1/18/2014
  • "Everything about our experience at the Carillon was exceptional. We were sat immediately; the service was attentive yet not intrusive; our server Eric was friendly and knowledgeable; the food was amazing (we had the six course tasting menu with wine pairings); the atmosphere was quiet enough to actually have a conversation-so rare these days. One of the classiest dining experiences I've ever had in Austin! The one and only problem was finding the restaurant-didn't see any signage driving around the building, and even after parking in the garage there was no signage directing us where to go. Otherwise, a great night!"
    Dined on 1/11/2014
  • "While the service is friendly, the restaurant appears to be understaffed. Dinner (3 courses) took over 3 hours. In addition, the coffee was stale, warm and sludgy. Dessert was expensive and, except for 1 dish, resembled a tasting rather than a serving. I recommend that the "crew" serving a table be limited to 2. Each function and stage of the meal appeared to have a different server and no one "go to" person. We will not be back for dinner, only buffet lunch. The menu was novel and pretty well executed, but definitely not worth $350 for a table of four."

  • "I was in Austin for the first time last week and had heard good things about Carillon. Like we often do in well-reviewed restaurants, we ordered the fairly expensive Chef's Tasting menu with wine pairings. The wine choices were excellent and the pours generous. However, the food was inconsistent. We had a delicious amuse-bouche -- a shot glass of cauliflower-based yummy. The third course was a very tasty green salad which contained cilantro. Unfortunately, when asked about allergies, one of us specifically asked if there was cilantro in any of the dishes and she was told no. She could not eat it. The other courses were small and unremarkable. We left hungry. I'd like to think that this Tasting did not represent the chef's best effort."

  • "Great restaurant all and all. I think this one is a bit of a hidden gem. Don't see it on many of the "popular lists of great Austin restaurants" but it should definitely be there. Only down side I would say is that we went on NYE and there was a prix fixe menu. To be expected, it was pricey but I knew that going in. All and all great meal, but for what they charged that night, not worth it. Definitely would go back on a non holiday, date night. I would definitely go back. Wine list was great, service was of the highest level. Portions small for the prix fixe menu price was only negative on this night."

  • "Thank yo for making our 1st anniversary celebration such a wonderful memory! Food was exceptional, Oscar took care of all our dinning requests and needs with confidence and knowledge. Will be definitely back!"

  • "This was my first visit to the Carrillon and chef Josh Watkin's menu was fabulous. The service was impeccable and the wine sommelier was both knowledgeable and very cordial. Highlights of the meal included the Mero and the Wagyu beef which were not only cooked to perfection but paired wonderfully with our wine selection. Hats off to the staff for beginning 2014 on a high note."
