A word from Carbone
Carbone is an Italian-American restaurant created by Mario Carbone, Rich Torrisi and Jeff Zalaznick. The restaurant pays homage to the essence of the great Italian-American restaurants of mid-20th century in New York, where delicious, exceptionally well-prepared food was served in settings that were simultaneously elegant, comfortable and unpretentious. The food nods to that same history, but take its culinary cues from the great talents and techniques of the present and of the future. Familiar dishes like Seafood Salad, Linguini Vongole, Lobster Fra Diavola, Chicken Scarpariello and Veal Parmesan elevated to a new level.Continued

  • "We booked over a month in advance, upon arrival we were quickly ushered through to the back of the restaurant where it seemed all the regular patrons were. Almost immediately we were given some great crusty Italian bread, pickled vegetables and slices of tomato to make a beautiful bruschetta. Service quick and by our first real NY born waiter who was quick, efficient and when we enquired, had some great stories. Our meals were great with the mains being much larger than we are use to. The standout was the veal marsala, absolutely the very best I have ever had and whilst my wife was having lobster as her main, when I gave her some of my veal - she kept on asking for more of my veal! Really enjoyed the night."

  • "The food at Carbone is actually under-rated. We started with two crudo appetizers, one tuna and the other salmon, each in a different herb and olive oil mix, both of which were extraordinarily fresh and delicate. Great Ceaser salad with white anchovies. Angel hair AOP popped with flavor. The meat balls weren't on the menu but our waiter included them. The veal parmigiana was exquisite - best red sauce ever. Should have stopped with the macerated strawberries, but my daughter pushed for the carrot cake. A perfectly paired soft red wine from Sicily for dinner and a wonderful caramelized rum from the West Indies to balance the carrot cake. Our waiter was always there just as we were about to look for him. The sommelier is top notch."

  • "Some good & some meh: Bass Allison: phenomenal, A+. Tortellini al Ragu: good, B+. Wines (a glass of Barbara & an Arneis): acceptable, B, but shockingly overpriced, even for here. Bread basket: unimpressive, C-. Complementary antipasti: C+ or B- but too much, even unnecssary--felt "forced," much like the ambience. We liked our waiter very much. Hosts & floor managers were drab, not warm at all to speak to, as though they did not care whether we were there. Music was alternatively kitschy & odd. 2 rooms, 1 rather bright, the other over dark. Artwork was poorly chosen, quite out of place (though artist is well known). Overall decor is forced. Dishware: chipped. Price$: outta control. Despite very good entrees wld not return, but worth 1 visit."

  • "I was dying to try this restaurant and was finally able to get a reservation last Sunday night at 10pm. The food was amazing, the best Italian food I've had in a long time and the place was nice and classy. However the service was very disappointing and it ruined our experience. It was our last night in NYC and we wanted to have a great night. We had no budget, ordered an expensive bottle of wine did not even have time to finish it because we got served in about 5 minutes. The excuse we got was that it was Sunday night and late, so they basically want to go home. The air conditioning was so strong we kindly asked to lower it down but they never did. Overall, still a great place but avoid going on Sunday night!"

  • "This WAS our favorite restaurant and lovED Jason the waiter. Hard to get a reservation here but finally got one to take our son home from college. Before son got there Jason told us of Porterhouse steak prepared by taking the filet part and making a steak tartar first and rest grilled and served as main. We told him our son loves steak tartar Son order this dish... When main course came with no steak tartar first and the whole Porterhouse broiled I inquired Jason responded" sorry we won't be having it that way this evening---next time!" I should have sent it back but did not want to embarrass our son Jason gave us a free sorbet in compensation? Ridiculous! This was soo rude we may never return!"

  • "We were quite late, but Carbone still took us in after 2pm. Though rushed, I couldn't help noticing 2 things, the great combination of detail Italian decor subtly infused with the Tribeca factory encasement, and the number of Italians having lunch there. Without much adieu, our charming waiter helped us find our light pasta. The bread he then brought us was not only fresh from the ground up, it was freshly roasted with garlic, butter and herbs, and they supplimented it with warm home-made mozerella. That free basket of bread knocked me off my chair. The pasta came pronto, but the sauces were delicate and distinctly fresh. The meal ended with a perfect traditional tiramisu with a great friendly smile. I can't wait to go back..."

  • "From the moment you step into Carbone (named "carbon" - as most things are grilled at a super high temp), your evening begins. The food is fantastic but the room is equally delicious: it's nicely lit, the floors are covered in varying designs of retro black and white tile, there's a cozy bar in the back to grab a pre-dinner drink and swing your hips motown -- all under a beautifully restored tin roof. We tried many things on the menu - that's what everyone does, so go hungry! Homemade Rigatoni in vodka sauce, grilled branzino (favorite), grilled octopus, baked clams, veal parm... All delicious!"

  • "Loved our lunch here. What a fun atmosphere, great soundtrack (The Supremes!) and gigantic portions of excellent food. The meatballs are great to pair with the rigatoni spicy vodka. The market price whole fish (sea bream for us) is one of the more reasonable entrees and desserts are decadent but delicious. Definitely a place you can bring kids – we saw a couple well-behaved cuties dining with their families."

  • "Had a friend in from LA - and wanted to go somewhere "NYC". This was it - Great host/greet staff - amazing and fun waiter. Food Delicious. Music was great (had a little goodfellas feel to it.....) The baked clams were insane - and both pastas we had were amazing. The prices are pretty steep steakhouse prices - but the food is worth it. "
