The service was horrible, and the food was inadequate at best. My shrimp tasted strange. My husband's steak was the worst I'd ever had. The calamari was the only saving grace. Also, when you are spending several hundred dollars for dinner and it takes over an hour to get anything, bread would be a nice touch. We were told they were out of bread, but they made us garlic bread out of some sort of stale leftovers. None of the staff seemed remotely interested in our bad experience. We definately will not be back and will tell our friends to avoid this restaurant. The setting was beautiful, but that can only carry you so far.

We thought the food was just average but you can't beat the setting right on the beach. We had an unusually well behaved and poised six year old with us and although I wouldn't recommend it for kids who may need to be more active, she did very well and didn't disturb anyone. The service was too fast at the beginning (we felt pressured to order) but it slowed down to the point that we couldn't get our waitresses eye to get a check by the end of the meal. One thing that made it uncomfortable was the lack of heat lamps outside- it got pretty cold and the fire pit just didn't help enough to off-set the cold.

You can't beat the location - right on millionaires beach. The restaurant doesn't seat very many and outside dining is very limited - but if you are lucky enough to sit outside it will be a memorable experience. The staff was courteous, the view was to die for - the waves were literally breaking 20 feet away from us. There were dolphins, good food and great champagne. Their umbrellas can be moved very easily, so if you don't want any sun on you, they can make that happen. I highly recommend this restaurant for a fun Sunday afternoon with friends. The food was priced very fairly, although the drinks, wine and champagne were outrageously over priced. Martini $16.00, Schramsburg Brut $66.00 a bottle, or $24.00 a glass. A little high.

VERY expensive -- but guess you pay for the view and the location which is a 10. And it is a hotel restaurant -- tendency is pricey for this reason too. Really nice design -- it's a lovely place all around. Small, and has an intimate feel. We sat outside and the tables were not full -- so can't really comment on the noise level.

For these prices, we were expecting equally stratospheric fare. The food was surprisingly ordinary, both in terms of creativity (fish: salmon and halibut, the lowest of all common denominators) and preparation (blah). Then, beef umpteen ways. Just not a "California" menu as we had expected. Although locals were dining that night, we figured the menu was dumbed-down to make tourists from the rural Midwest comfortable. So, despite the fanfare, Malibu still goes without a truly good, imaginative, non-touristy restaurant.

i have been to this restaurant 4 times in the last week 1/breakfast 1/lunch 2/dinner this past dinner was a disaster. we had to ask 4 times for napkins, it took half an hour for the waiter to take our order, empty plates sat in front of us for half an hour, the bread basket was empty for 45 minutes. an out of town guest wanted to take us out to dinner and it was an embarassment. after getting up and complaining two times to the front desk we were assigned a different server who turned out to be a "trainee". it's a shame becuase the location is so beautiful.

My three year old son and I took my husband here for Father's Day. The outdoor balcony is small but intimate and perfect for any occassion. It is small but very intimate and the ocean is right at your feet below. It really entertained my son and allowed us to have a very nice dinner. The food is delicious and they have a great wine list. Highly recommend for any occassion. My only complaint is that when making this reservation through Open Table, you have to place a credit card to hold the reservation or be charged $25.00 per person for no shows well we dined there and showed up but the host didn't check us in that way and I got charged $75.00 in addition to our bill. However, the manager was more than happy to refund it.

Don't bother to eat here if you're not staying at the hotel or a member. Went there for Father's Day (which required a credit card to hold, unlike Mother's Day), and the hostess was patronizing. Not one hour before, I had called the restaurant to inquire as to whether my request to be seated on the patio would be honored, which the host confirmed ("I don't see that would be a problem"). Of course, no such luck, as the hostess quipped, "It is ONLY a request" upon our arrival. My intent on eating here was to decide whether the service warranted dropping $800-1,000/night to stay at the hotel, which has meager beach service (the towels aren't even fluffy like you get at most hotels) and no pool. Won't be back again, and neither should you.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2006VIP
    Dined on 5/8/2008
Way overpriced, and the wine list certainly is not as good as it should be. Wine selections by the glass are not good (took us 3 tries to find one palatable!). Service was poor. We had difficulty getting fresh cutlery between courses (each course, they waited until hot food sat for minutes getting cold in front of us while we had no utensils), and we had to refill our own wine glasses several times. Our bill was over $350 for 2 of us, but the service was no where in that league. Food was quite good (but overpriced) and the views and ambience are SPECTACULAR! Worth going, but don't be surprised by the prices.

The restaurant was lovely. We ate on the deck outside which provided a beautiful setting The only food complaint were the challah rolls which were rubbery tasting; however the ahi tuna salad and the asian chicken salad were great. The hot brownie dessert was delicious. The other downside was the arrival of a patron (who did not eat lunch, just sat at a table and had a beverage on the deck) who talked for about 20 minutes on her cell phone. She clearly had no sense that her loud and abrasive voice was affecting other diners. Thankfully she finally left. I recommend that the restaurant have a no-cell phone policy both inside and out as the beauty of the setting and the graciousness of the venue were marred by the unfortunate phone caller.

We had to wait forever to be seated even though we made reservations. The food delivery was on time once we were seated though. The view was obviously beautiful, but the service was not that good...tea did not come in a separate pot to stay heated and the food was mediocre...meaning it wasn't memorable. A few more touches to the dining experience and it would really elevate someone's experience here...upgraded dishware, napkin laying in the lap, wine tasting and explanation of the bottle before purchase.

Although they show a few signs of being a new establishment, they had some great food. The Salmon dish in particular was out of this world.
