Diner Reviews
  • "I have been going to this restaurant for a few years and it's one of my favorites. Great service and can't beat the view. I do have to say that they changed the menu since last time I was there and the food isn't as good. They have similar menu items as before but seems like they tweaked them a bit and not for the better. The other people I was with felt the same way..."

  • "Not only is the view one of the best in Los Angeles, the food is to die for. My clam chowder was top notch. It was served in a fresh and tasty bread bowl with clams still in their shells. Our main course was pasta with ribs. A+ as well."

  • "Beautiful location. Sitting outside is a joy, however, the food does live up to the view. It is only o.k. Frankly, would not recommend other than having a drink and watching the birds. Had to return to lunch meals as not up to par. Better place to go Malibu Pier Restaurant, the food is far superior and the view is just the same."

  • "The restaurant was beautiful, peaceful and romantic. We could not find a better ocean ambiance with an intimate setting. The menu, drinks, food and service was exceptional. We have already told our friends who live in Malibu, Westlake, Topanga and Calabasas about our dining experience. We will be going back soon for a birthday celebration! The lamb tagine and bone-in-filet were excellent."

  • "A superb location, on a terrace over the beach in Malibu. Good food, great views, perfect location for breakfast, lunch, or brunch; we had a great time and will go back"

  • "Restaurant, service and view were just fabulous. We requested and received a table outside and it was wonderful. Highly recommend this restaurant and hotel..."

  • "Always an amazing experience from the service, to the food, and the view….The Bloody Marys are so tasty, with just the right amount of spicy. Every dish is delicious. Even the french fries are done perfectly. The Lobster club is packed with perfectly done, tender lobster. I just ate at the Ivy and had over done, dry Lobster…yuck. I could sit here for an entire day and sip bloody marts, if not for the fact that I need to drive back to Santa Monica at some point. Beautiful."

  • "Took the wife out to Malibu for a nice dinner at Carbon Beach. View of the ocean/Malibu Pier is fantastic. Food was terrific, as was the service."

  • "This is an incredibly welcoming restaurant. The food is very good and the service is also very good. The views and the ambience are over-the-top!!! "

  • "Tough call: amazing view, comfortable seating, excellent menu options, and the waitstaff was excellent (we had Michelle). That said, the host/hostess situation was a total mess. They lost our reservation then said we couldn't have a nicer table since we didn't have a reservation (though I had an email from OpenTable confirming our reservation). Nothing on Open Table said anything about not getting brunch until 11 and our rez was for 10:45 and we were pressured to order from the breakfast menu since it was not yet 11. But how were we to know before traveling to Malibu?? They turne people away but then had lots of open tables. Keep in mind the food and drinks are expensive for what they are. But, the view makes the prices worth it. "

  • "Though the food was quite good the staff, courteous and efficient, and the scenery, waves and whales, made the evening! Only noise we heard was the waves! Was a pleasure to dine at Carbon Beach Club Restaurant!"

  • "I almost don't want to tell people about this lovely restaurant in the Malibu Beach Inn, because it will make it harder to get a table. But this restaurant on the water with a lovely view of the ocean is perfect no matter what inside or outside table you sit at. The food is delicious and not your ordinary salads and sandwiches. Parking is validated with lunch (still costs $7), but lunch is as good as Nobu down the road and half the price. Shh, keep it a secret. :-)"

  • "I enjoyed my experience at The Carbon Beach. First, the staff was super friendly, especially the server named Tracy. The view is stunning and u have access to the beach and make great pictures. "

  • "You come here for the view, but the food is actually very good. We had brunch, huevos rancheros, delicious. We ordered the buckwheat waffle, our attempts of being "healthy." It was very good as well. It is over priced as expected but the view is seriously ridiculous. The check and valet were definitely worth it."

  • "Fantastic location. Wife's chicken was dry. My first steak sent back because it was Medium, not Med Rare. Second steak too rare. Had to find a waiter to send the first one back, and nobody asked about the 2nd. Got frustrated and ate around the edges. Hate paying $45 for a steak that I can cook better. No manager inquired, either. But, it is a beautiful spot and will try it again."

  • "The view at Carbon Beach Club Restaurant in the Malibu Beach Inn is the BEST in Malibu. You are literally sitting right over the beach with big gorgeous rocks and the ocean waves crashing underneath you. The outdoor dining here is much more romantic and beautiful than Nobu or Nikita (although both of those are still amazing) because its a much smaller intemdiate venue. Great spot for a romantic sunset dinner or small group. Bring your date or bring your parents here when they are visiting. The food was also really delicious. Great seafood, steaks, veggies. All-around excellent menu and fine dining experience. They have a lot of specials throughout the week with wine/beer pairings. Service was excellent. Wine list was great. WONDERFUL!"

  • "Great spot to soak up the ocean views, the outdoor terrace literally hangs over the sand, couldn't be more idyllic for a special treat. Food was outstanding, highly recommend the eggs benedict with salmon. Servers are attentive and polite. Will definitely be back!"

  • "We selected this restaurant for the location in the property (Malibu Beach Inn) where we were spending the night. The view was incredible. The server was pleasant but not as attentive as one would generally expect from this type of establishment. They did not accommodate my husband's simple dietary restrictions as we would have anticipated for a restaurant of this caliber. The food was good-tasting but steaks a bit tough for a price tag of $38.00. Rolls were burnt and we felt as though they were a bit stingy in removing the basket from the table, requiring that we ask the server to return each time we needed additional."

  • "This place has all of the right elements, but they have to get the food right. The service was great - the food was sadly overpriced and underwhelming. They made some changes to the menu and it seemed very heavy for lunch. I have had great experiences in the past, but this one left me wanting more in terms of the selection and execution."

  • "even if the food wasn't good (and it was), how can you not enjoy sitting outside right on the beach? The juevos ranchero was served in its own cast iron pan that kept it nice and warm. Shared the tuna tartare that was good as well."

  • "Dined at this beautiful spot six months ago when our reservation was made, on the same day, by a friend of the management. We got a table on the deck, had fantastic service and the food was outstanding. This time we booked two months in advance through Open Table and requested an outdoor table. We called to reconfirm shortly before our reservation and were told that no outdoor tables were available. Imagine our surprise when we arrived and only one table on the deck was taken. After a conversation explaining our friend's connection to the restaurant a table became available. During our entire meal outdoor tables were available. Our server was knowledgeable, attentive and professional. The food was fresh, not as good as at our last visit."

  • "Wow! This restaurant is such a treat! Food is delicious and your view is the ocean. This is one of the best views in Malibu. I definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "We booked this outdoor dining spot for Valentine's Day lunch since dinner out usually means, fixed menu, expensive, rushed and/or poor service. I had asked for an outdoor dining table. They had one, but it was unshaded. Actually the only two tables left that were both for parties of two. As a skin cancer survivor, I opted for indoors. Guess I needed to mention shade. Service was slow (which we had no issue with) but when we asked for bread, they said it only comes with dinner so it would take awhile (we had ordered salads). It was a long time coming and they charged us for 3 rolls. This is a very small hotel and restaurant (you mistake the front desk for the restaurant hostess area) so let the diner beware. Best for hotel guests."

  • "You can't beat the location & view! Unfortunately that maybe why the service is lacking... As for the menu a bit surprised being in California where fresh products are everywhere the menu had very limited choices... I will try again. Better second time around :)"

  • "The best ocean view along PCH! The food selection, presentation and quality are tops! Service is attentive. Beautiful dining room with tons of light and perfect views. Great outdoor deck for dining on the water. Easy valet parking for both arrival and departure."

  • "It's a beautiful restaurant. The food is okay, but not up to the prices charged. The service could also improve along with losing just a touch of theatrical snobbery. The valet said to make sure that his ticket was stamped. Turns out I paid 7$ instead of $9. Should be free considering the high meal prices."

  • "Want to enjoy a good meal and beautiful view...would definitely recommend dining here. Have only dined here for lunch..and would highly recommend it. We loved the quinoa salad with shrimp...and it was a little cool this day so they had blankets on the chairs if you needed it. Look forward to going back!"

  • "What a gem, you could be anywhere in the world with such a scenic ocean view. Excellent food, great ambiance, small and romantic, excellent service, a must to sit on the Patio, with waves crashing a few feet away. Magnificent spot for lunch."

  • "Had pre-dinner drinks here at sunset. Great view, perfect location, ok cocktail s. We took a look at the menu and decided to leave because frankly we couldn't find anything to order off this very odd menu that mixed targines with sushi with steaks. Also no fresh fish? Go figure? You could hang a line off the balcony into the pacific! I suppose this place is not about the food, more about the scene."

  • "Such a nice spot to dine at sunset on the patio if you can make it there by then. We didn't get to the restaurant until 6:30pm but fortunately it was a full moon that night. We had a perfect view of the moon from a table outside. They have a nice patio and on a warm night, the outside patio is the way to go. The food was delicious and a couple bottles of wine that were reasonably priced. I ordered the butternut squash ravioli in a balsamic sauce. It was so good! I thought it would be just ravioli's but was pleasantly surprised! The ravioli was served over squash, brussel sprouts and little pearl onions. What a delicious dish! I highly recommend this place for great food, wine and a beautiful view."

  • "What a find and terrific experience. My cousin had gone there 2 months ago and we have been meaning to try this spot, but it beat all my expectations. It was a little slow the night we went, but all the better for us as we were bathed in service and had a very quiet dinner with our friends. The view is killer, and the porch was where most people choose, but it was slightly chilly so we dined inside. All the choices were excellent. Salad and soups were very tasty, I had short ribs which were tender and tasty, my wife had a great burger served with a glass of wine, our friends enjoyed swordfish and shrimp pasta. Portions were plentiful. My only negative was there seemed to be over salting and seasonings."
