On July 15th, 2009, Caravaggio, opened its doors to New York City for the first time. Located at 23 E. 74th Street, the Bruno brothers' latest cutting-edge concept carries on the long-lived family tradition of serving great food to our devoted patrons and to the greater New York area.

Our attention to detail, in both food and service, will continue to be our main goal. We believe in nourishing body and soul, which is the wisdom of our Salerno ancestors from Southern Italy. Giuseppe Bruno, Cosimo Bruno, and their staff, along with the remaining fratelli Bruno, will strive to continue this heartfelt tradition.Continued

  • "My husband and I had dinner at Caravaggio after attending a summer cocktail party at a nearby art gallery. Dinner at Caravaggio was a perfect end to a lovely evening. First and foremost, I must compliment the welcoming ambience created from the first greeting at the door throughout the balance of the evening. Our server was superb. She was efficient, knowledgeable about both the wine and food, available, and, all around, a paradigm of excellent service. The food was good and the wine excellent with a very good price to quality ratio. My husband and I live in the neighborhood and will certainly return regularly to Caravaggio."

  • "This is a lovely restaurant with great ambiance and good food. The prix fix lunch menu is a bargain at $28 for two courses, although the choices are limited and some things are not always available. The quality of the food is always high and the service impeccable. They know the Italian red wine we like and have it ready for us. Great restaurant."

  • "We love Caravaggio. On this visit everything was great except for the $90 glass of port that was served with my cheese. The waiter- who was excellent in every other way that night - including finding an excellent wine within my requested $100- just asked if I wanted a glass of port and I said yes. But $90 ?? However we will be back"

  • "It is really too bad that our experience was so awful! We ordered the chicken meatballs as an appetizer and commented on how salty it was. That was nothing compared to the main dishes. They tasted delicious, but the amount of salt was not tolerable!! But what made it worse was the fact that the waiter was arguing with us about it. We sent both dishes back and were told that the chef tasted them, the chef cooks with allot of salt We did not have another main dish, since we were already told that it would be salty. We ordered desert. When we received the check we were charged for the two dishes we sent back!!!We had to argue with the waiter to take the dishes off our check! He finally did."

  • "Gorgeous restaurant. Perfect location for us. The service was totally in attentive. We waited twenty minutes to be acknowledged in any way. I requested a table by the wall since it's quieter both under special requests and on the phone when they confirmed. They immediately took us to a table front and center in the middle of all the hubbub. The food was poorly seasoned and not hot. The appetizer consisted of four asparagus, barrata and a scoop of quinoa with no seasoning at all - bland and unappetizing for $22. They never acknowledge our anniversary, which I had mentioned. Overall, we looked forward to a wonderful dining experience and we were disappointed. It is a lovely restaurant with lovely staff. They just missed the mark. "

  • "While the food was good. The experience was disappointing as the service was lacking for such an expensive restaurant. I went there to celebrate my friends birthday. I called in advance to make sure they knew it was her birthday and they would do some thing special for desert. On the phone they told me they would make a plate with samples of each desert with candles. I had to tell 3 different waiters it was her birthday before they got it, but obviously had to so it in front if my guest. They put a candle in a golf ball size scoop of ice cream and the person who delivered it didn't speak English well enough to sing. At another table a whole group went to sing. "

  • "We have enjoyed this restaurant in the past in all respects---food, service and ambiance. However our most recent visit was a keen disappointment. While the decor is fabulous and will not change, the food was not only ordinary but in the case of the first course, served hurriedly and cold. Unacceptable at these prices."

  • "We are regulars at Caravaggio and we loved being greeted personally by Bruno. We were given a lovely table (for 4), and enjoyed great service. The soft shell crabs are in season, and this restaurant prepares them wonderfully. One guest loved the lamb chops, and I enjoyed the lasagna. The soufflé and berries at the end were a nice treat. The only negative is that this restaurant gets more expensive every day! It was $120 per head, which I think is on the high side. $45 for soft shell crabs? $25 for soufflé? $15 for berries?"

  • "I was really looking forward to our lunch at caravagio.Our first course of Salume was fine but the second course of pasta with clams was not good. The clams were overcooked cockles. Really inedible. Too bad since previous times all had been perfect. As far as I know "vongole veraci" are not cockles."

  • "I eat here a couple of times a month and you just can't go wrong. If you're going to "cheat" and have a pasta meal this is the place to do it. Their pasta with eggplant is off the charts! Staff is fabulous and you never feel rushed."

  • "Service and food are consistently good here. Their lunch prix fix menu, however, is very limited and most days, they are out of at least one entrée. My husband ordered burrata, which was not on the prix fix menu, and they not only charged $25 for one small lump of burrata, they also charged him not only the prix fix charge of $30 but also charged $8 for desert. As he paid extra for the burrata, he was entitled to two courses for lunch. Whenwe pointed this out, they removed the extra $8 charge from the bill."

  • "Ana Maria and our service team were super. The service team made the lunch special indeed. As this was our first visit, I cannot comment on all food selections. Our appetizers wer soup and the pasta and clams. Delicious. For entrees, I loved the scallops which was indulgent with the virgin olive oil chosen by the chef. My wife had an excellent shrimp and vegetable selection. Oh those bread sticks and the superb bombolino dessert which we split. So decadent ! We will be back immediately. Rob Milo"

  • "15 minutes after being seated, we still hadn't been given a menu to look at. Waiter was either nowhere to be seen, or seemed preoccupied with cleaning spoons near the kitchen. The service was so poor and slow that at one point I had to go to the kitchen entrance and ask them to bring out the main course as we'd been waiting roughly 20 minutes and were getting sleepy. To cap the night off, despite taking my father's crutches from him after we were first seated, neither the waiter nor any other staff member brought the crutches back to him when we were done for the night."

  • "The service was much too rushed. The restaurant was less than 1/3 full but they asked many times if we were ready to order within 5 minutes of being seated. Once ordered the first course came in 5 seconds. They then came to clear the course 3 times while we were still eating. The main course came as the 1st course was being cleared. The same rushed service with the dessert and were asked many times about more wine during our meal while the glasses were still half full. Also a big hard sell for coffee with dessert. Our reservation was at 1:30 and we were through by 2:15 I do think you will agree that 45 minutes is rushed for 3 courses with wine."

Three of us enjoyed the branzino, my husband's lamb was not good, and had we not been with friends, he would have sent it back. This restaurant is on the extreme end of the price scale!"

The juxtaposition of a $25 menu price with a wine list by the glass with the cheapest being $14, and most between $18 and $28! This is patently absurd! During restaurant week most good restaurants offer some kind of offer for a flight of wines, or a reasonable priced selection of three or four wines for the week. This is not in the spirit of restaurant week."

  • "Caravaggio is a small, elegrant restaurant of a type that used to be common in Manhattan and now is all too scarce: a single dining room, a carefully curated menu, thoughtful, unobtrusive service, and incredibly, a noise level low enough to have a conversation even when all tables are occupied. As a plus, the restrooms are on the same level; no steep narrow stairs to negotiate. We had the Restaurant Week Menu at lunch time. The choices were imaginative and beautifully presented. The regular menu is pricey enough that I checked "special occasion" but I look forward to going back. Definitely a keeper!"

  • "I loved everything. The decor of the restaurant was so classy. I thought I was in Italy. The staff so professional. Dining alone I felt so comfortable. The eggplant lazanga was excellent. Perfect sauce and the Branzino cooked and presented as though it was a Caravaggio painting. My glass of wine was very smooth. That was the first time I had 2 glasses. I must go back to try the chicken meatballs and their PAPPADELLE . Again, I felt so great having lunch at this unique restaurant and it ended with the most delicious postacio cake. Just enough with real whip cream. Again, I really enjoyed this boutique restaurant and can not wait to get back. The portions were great even for Restaurant Week."

  • "We went to Caravaggio for Valentines Day. I had low expections because Valentines Day menus are typically set and basic. The menu was special but it was extensive. We had the rack of lamb for 2 and it was cooked to perfections and delicious. We will go back."

  • "From the stunning decor, to the excellent food and service, this restaurant doesn't disappoint. Although quite pricey, when the quality of the food surpasses expectation, one doesn't mind the tab when it comes. We were celebrating my godson and his wife's joint birthdays, and I always want it to be a special experience for them. They were knocked out by the restaurant itself and loved the food. We had a wonderful dining experience, enhanced by fine wine, and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. I definitely recommend for a special occasion."
