Caravaggio New YorkJust LovelyWhat a lovely restaurant! Spot on service, food and ambience. Very special place!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMReading the menu, I must sayReading the menu, I must say was not inspiring, 'seen it ate it' combination of food, but that being said, they do those basic/traditional very well. The wine, the food was delicious, no complaints. Only thing haunting me is there wall art.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial evening -- that madeSpecial evening -- that made it a most pleasant New York City experience ! Welcoming bar and beautifully appointed dining room.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAn Overlooked GemWhy this isn't on NY's top five is beyond me. Food is simply outstanding service sublime and portion sizes are perfect. I've dined here a several times and always look forward to a return visit. It's quite small, so reservations are essential. It's hard to believe, but haven't had a meal of this quality since visiting 3-star La Pergola in Rome (ok, so Caravaggio doesn't have a panoramic view of the Vatican, but the cuisine is comparable). Not a dud on the menu and the staff treats you like a regular.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMUES GemI don't want to write a review, its a gem I want to keep to myself. This place is perfect on every level. It is one of those restaurants where every little detail is flawlessly executed, as so you won't even notice the service. The food is amazing. One of the best lunches I have ever had, and for $28 2-course or $35 3-course for lunch, its a steal. Take your business partner, your mom, or the girl you have a crush on. This will get them to seal the business deal, win over your parents, and have her asking you out for another date.
You go here, your meal will be perfect. Every time. Nothing else I would change.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent service and food.Excellent service and food. attractive restaurant.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMExpensive but great food.Expensive but great food. The service was a little rushed. We got appetizers before we got a wine list, that we asked for, but I didn't feel they were pushing us out the door.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat again....Both food and service are superb! The octopus salad is out of this world and the rack of lamb the best I've had in New York-cooked to perfection! The pasta tastes just as wonderful as it does in Italy! Try the chocolate soufflé and the bomboloni for desert. They have an impressive wine list but ask for suggestions-their recommendations have always been great! The service is prompt and attentive. Overall ...this place exceeds expectations across the board!!!!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGourmet food. I think, thisGourmet food. I think, this is a regional Italian, very creative. Professional service. Good wine selection.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMI'm a regular diner here andI'm a regular diner here and highly recommend. This meal was the first time I ever ordered something that wasn't terrific. I had the spaghetti with lobster and it had zero flavor. The staff is super attentive and sensed something was wrong. They immediately removed it and my replacement meal was off the charts delicious (pasta with eggplant, ricotta and mozzarella). Will definitely be back...4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThanks to Open Table we foundThanks to Open Table we found a great new restaurant near the Met museum. Will definitely be back as soon as possible.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMCaravaggio never disappoints.Caravaggio never disappoints. The food is excellent, service top par.
The only negative I have is that the prices at dinner are astronomical. The specials are much more expensive than comparable dishes on the menu. Osso bucco was $52. Eggplant parmigiana, a special, was $35. Very much on the high side.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent , very quiet greatexcellent , very quiet great for having conversations...3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderfulOutstanding in everything from food, ambiance and service. Pasta tastes like you are eating in Italy. There wine list is exceptional. Try it you will love it.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Italian cuisineExcellent Italian cuisine and heavy wine list. Great at dinner and great value at lunch (and nice selection of wines by the glass). Lovely contemporary decor with lots of flowers.3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways delicious, serviceAlways delicious, service is terrific and guaranteed great evening... Highly recommend! The chef is very accommodating so don't be hesitant to ask for something off the menu. I had the swordfish on the snapper's veggies. Yum yum and yum.2/9/2013 12:00:00 AMI have dined there many times,I have dined there many times, and it is always excellent.2/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWe're going back againMy husband and I enjoyed our two course dinner very much and plan to return often. However, I agree with the other review - they do push the specials a bit too hard, although all the options sounded delicious. (I was tempted, but the price tag on the specials was 3 to 4 times the normal cost of an appetizer or entree from the main menu...which is already expensive.) Instead, we had the watercress and wild mushroom salad, the orata and the veal chop, all of which were very good. The highlight had to be the pasta with nut pesto, which is umami-licious! But just beware - it is sooo good you'll have to eat every last bit, but so filling you'll wish you didnt!
The staff is very charming and the ambience is perfect - definitely recommend.1/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
