A word from Captain James Landing
A Baltimore landmark since 1978, Captain James Landing Restaurant has earned the name "most unique eatery" in Baltimore City. For starters we are the only restaurant shaped like a merchant vessel. Five brothers created a restaurant in the 70"s with the goal of providing quality service to the citizens of Baltimore, Maryland as well as the thousands of tourist that visit our Monumental City. Our Waterfront Crab House (located adjacent of our restaurant) was awarded in 2012 "#1 Best Crabs in Baltimore" by Baltimore Magazine. Our Crab House is the one spot in the city where you can eat steamed crabs with a true waterfront seating. Water Taxi Stop #14 brings you right to our waterfront location.Continued

  • "Took my family there to celebrate my mothers birthday. Nice size group and just about all ages. Service was wonderful and friendly. Servers attended to all parties present no matter how many questions they were asked. Upbeat and playful. Great selection on the menu so much to be desired that we have to go back to try what we didn't have this time around."

  • "The escargot was better than I have had at a lot of other places. The quality of meat for the burgers was very well. The temperatures and preperations were spot on with meduim rare burgers. Hope to catch brunch next time and see how the food is for brunch"

  • "We were excited to celebrate our anniversary here but found it not so great. Staffing was terrible, and no one seemed to know what they were doing. We sat at the bar for nearly 15 minutes before anyone approached us. We finally ordered but decided to take it with us and that took another 30 minutes. When we arrived home we did not receive all side items as the menu had stated. We have a groupon so will return to use it but would likely not go back. A very disorganized establishment."

  • "Excellent sea food & dessert offerings, fresh, high quality salads. Carved beef was flavourful, but not as tender as we had hoped. No innovative surprises, on the menu, but everything presented was of excellent quality. As with most dinner-and-music situation s, the band overestimated their importance to the experience and were a little too loud, but we've seen far worse offenders. We're planning to return within the quarter."

  • "We went for Saturday brunch. Very reasonable prices, (their Belgian waffle is $4!). Food was not as good their dinner options but good all around, the syrup they use and their toast were standouts."

  • "I loved this place! The food was tasty and the staff was friendly. I will return."

  • "We went for steamed crabs. We called ahead and asked whether or not they had Maryland blue crabs. On the phone they said yes. When we got to the restaurant, we were told they only had gulf crabs. They were unapologetic about the lie. We ordered 6. Two were inedibly mushy. The other 4 were small and difficult to pick even though they called them "extra large". At the end they would not help us get a cab back to our hotel. The experience was a total disappointment."

  • "Several items...notably soft shell crab items not available. Needed to remind waitress of order...only had soup and appetizers. Many other places near Fells Point to check out. The decor is cool and the host was very hospitable. Fair for it all."

  • "Surprise experience. I bought a groupon to try it since I drove past this place hundred times and have never eaten in there. I had a wonderful date night with my boyfriend. I would recommend this place to my friends. The place truly feels like your on a boat. Spacious and quaint. it felt like we were the only ones in the place. We got the crab dip as an appetizer and it was delicious . I definitely want to go back to try some of the other selections on the menu. If I do buy another groupon , I would recommend to take another couple. it wasn't easy to use the full promotional value."

  • "A bit disappointing - group of seven, half got the crab cakes (excellent and lots), and half got the "special" hot pot (bland, skimpy). Would like to try again in the summer, outside with just the blue crabs. Probably good for that! Service and people very nice tho."

  • "This restaurant came recommended. The food was average. I went solely for the all you can eat crab special they were offering, but do to the recent snow, they were not able to offer it."
    Dined on 3/17/2014
  • "The shrimp in the shrimp cocktail was a little old (metallic taste). We had them make the scallops twice: The first time they were way overdone, the second time, they had no flavor, and were swimming in a watery sauce. The service was slow (the servers were also making drinks)."

  • "People may be turned off by the exterior being a boat. But, this place has amazing food. There is a casual dining side as well as a formal side. My wife loves the seafood Alfredo and orders it every time. I am the adventurous one I have had the crab cakes, steak, and lasagna. Each amazing in their own right. Try it, you'll be pleasantly surprised."

  • "Our party of 7 stubbled upon Captain James Landing following a long journey up from North Carolina for a wedding. The seating is modest and the atmosphere charming. Everyone enjoyed their dinners, with each of us getting something different. I had a flatbread and a salad - very tasty!!! Others had seafood, which the crab cake was well received by those tasting it. Overall I would recommend Captain James Landing for a great meal within reasonable prices."

  • "My husband and I were visiting for the weekend and wanted a moderately priced seafood restaurant. We chose poorly. The food was subpar but the service and atmosphere were terrible. There were a group of 20 something's that were dining at the table next to us that completely ruined our experience. They were yelling and being completely obnoxious. There was someone that appeared to be of authority, not their server that catered to them the entire evening. Instead of asking them to quiet down so they would stop districting the other guests in the restaurant he continued to bring them shots to add to their drunkeness. We were so frustrated with the experience that we had 2 bites from our meal and asked for it to go. We will never return."

  • "Looks like a huge boat so it is easy to find. Tons of fre parking acros the street in their private lot. Large portions and great food! Will be back when in the area."

  • "I went with my family for dinner. We had a reservation and that was a good thing because there were a lot of people waiting to be seated. The servers were very friendly and attentive. It took a while though for us to receive our food. Though we took it as a sign that the food wasn't just taken out of a freezer and reheated. The food was really fresh. I highly suggest the crab cakes! I will be going again."

  • "Appetizers were perfect (shrimp cocktail, and garlic and shrimp). Oysters were good, not great, because they were a bit "over fried". Parking was great! They have their own lot!"

  • "We had a great date night away from the baby here. The appetizers and salads were served promptly and were very good. I recommend the crabby mac and cheese! I ordered the seafood platter and my husband ordered th Mahi. His was cooked perfectly and was delicious. My platter while being a large platter was a bit bland. The crab cake on it was very good and large but the white fish was almost worth no flavor. That being said the best part of our visit was the service! Our drinks were never even half full and our waiter (Greg I believe) was exceptional. Based on this alone we will be back!"

  • "The steak was great and I only had a taste. Even when it was re-heated the next day it was still very tender. The crab cake was ok and I recommand the crab mac & cheese."

  • "i didn't realize they didn't have a lunch menu for restaurant week, that's my fault. we had a 3:15 reservation got there around 2:30-2:45 and received immediate seating but it took waay too long for the appetizers and entries since the place was practically empyt"

  • "My wife and I had an enjoyable time at the restaurant. When we arrived at the reserved time, a table for 2 had been reserved for us.The serving staff attended to us as soon as we were seated and throughout our time there. Our waitress was the best. The meal was delicious from the appetizer to the final course. Each course of our meal offered us a variety of choices. Our total meal was very filling.and delicious. We definitely will return. There waa an error in our billing, however the waitress got the bill corrected immediately. I'm so glad that we used the Open Table to make the reservation at the restaurant."

  • "The drinks were fair. The food was not that bad. I would visit again, but wouldn't be in a hurry to do so. Waiter could have introduce himself. One thing that stood out was the manager came over to the table to find out if we were satified. He actually visited all the tables."

  • "For a seafood themed restaurant, all the seafood was over cooked. The cream of crab was grainy and tasted like flour. It did however contain lots of crab. The MD crab was really salty and tasted like it had been cooking down too long. The salmon was very over cooked. The scallops were tasteless. Overall for a seafood restaurant and for the price we were not impressed. It might be good in the summer for crab cracking outside. The service was pretty good. The restaurant can get pretty loud. The best thing is they have their own parking lot just across the street."

  • "We went for restaurant week and it was amazing. The seafood nachos were great. It was so much food that I couldn't even eat my entree by the time it came, although the few bites I took have me really looking forward to the leftovers!!"

  • "I have not been to The Boat on Boston in 20 years and I am kicking myself for not returning sooner. The decor is spot-on---from the very cool display of steamer trunks at the greeter's stand to the plates, nautical stripped napkins and the check presented in a ship's lantern with mints. PLUS the best broiled seafood platter ever! Great crowd---mix of couples, singles, families---fun cocktail menu and terrific service. PARKING in Fells! Loved the option of the Restaurant Week menu. Next time, a steamer pot! Well done."

  • "When arriving the hostess greeted us with a smile. Our table was waiting for us when we arrived. Our waiter Dan was informative and helped us pick out selections. Although, the restaurant was out of Oysters, our food was absolutely delicious. The crab cakes was full of lumps and very little breading. The Cream of Crab needed more seasoning of Old Bay for my liking. The seasoning was provided at the table if you needed to adjust the taste. The texture of the Cream of Crab soup was a bit thin. The Chicken Imperial was very well prepared. It had lumps of crab and the imperial sauce was the correct texture. The vegetables were tender with a crunch. It was seasoned perfectly. I would absolutely recommend this to friends and family."

  • "Thank you Baltimore Restaurant Week! That's how I found this wonderful restaurant. The service was friendly and good. The food was wonderful. The escargot was garlicky buttery delightfulness. The Crab Mac n Cheese was light and flavorful. The Seafood Stew was a wonderful broth chock full of seafood. We were stuffed by the main courses arrived. The Shrimp and corn croquettes were great, and the grits with red pepper coulis could have been a meal without the croquettes. They have 24 hour take-out, so I'll be able to go anytime to get this great food!"

  • "My husband and I visited for Saturday lunch, there were plenty of seats available. We ordered the crab dip for an appetizer, it was really good, it paired well with the complimentery rolls. I ordered the broiled seafood platter, the crab cake was huge and very craby, it was the best crab cake I have ever had, the food was displayed nice as well. My husband ordered the crab cake platter and loved it. We took most of it home because we were so full off the crab dip. The staff was very friendly, the place was clean and decorated nicely, there was free parking nearby as well. If I lived in Baltimore I would visit more often."

  • "My mom insisted on having crab for her new wife to enjoy after they got married. I found Captain James Landing on OpenTable. It was really good. My mom ordered Escargot for her appetizer and I had the "Wedge". It was delicious! My husband had the ribeye, he said it was to die for. Our trip to Baltimore was definitely memorable, Captain James Landing provided the food! :)"

  • "We came to Captain James Landing at the last minute for a special evening. The unique setting made it experience nice and the food was good. The service was friendly, but slow. We quickly forgave them, however, of any transgressions since it was a busy night everywhere and they remained friendly and eager to serve. I would like to try again on a less hectic night."

  • "This is not a good restaurant for special occasions (Valentines Day, Anniversaries etc.). The food was not very good and the meals were overpriced compared to what you got. If your meal was over $75.00 gratuities were included, our meal came to about $60.00 and they still included gratuities. Overall the experience was not good."

  • "We went top Captain James for a friends birthday. The waiter was really great, food was good and the inside of the ship was really neat. It was better than we were anticipating. Fun time, would go back with a group again."

  • "The service during our two visits was substandard, and 18% automatic gratuity charge for checks over $35 is absurd. The food value we got for the price we paid was poor. The restaurant is not on our list of "to go back again""

  • "Wonderful food and the service was great. We sat at the bar which only has four seats; I would recommend this family run restaurant to everyone. I can't wait to come back in the summer when the dock house is open"
