A word from Caprice Bistro
Thierry and Patricia Moity were previous owners of Patou Bistro in Charlotte, NC and Cafe de Bruxelles in New York City.

Delight in Chef Thierry Moity's traditional French cuisine. Chef Moity, who has been cooking since age 13 in some of the finest French restaurants in Europe and New York City. The French cuisine is influenced by a combination of traditions-Patricia comes from the northern part of France near the Belgium border, while Thierry's origins are deeply rooted in the central provinces of the country.

According to Chef Moity, the food is served fast paced and in generous portions." I want everyone to feel welcome in my restaurant". We are working against the stereotype that French food must be intimidating and expensive.

  • "Wow!! We (party of 3) had an absolutely delightful meal and a wonderful time at Caprice Bistro on a Thursday evening. We were seated upstairs next to a window overlooking downtown which was lovely. The atmosphere was lovely and decor beautiful. There is a lovely bar upstairs with a number of dining tables as well as sofa seating. Beautiful original artwork. The real gem was the quality of our meals and the service. Everything was just fabulous. We ordered wine, a cheese board appetizer, salads, entrees, and desserts. Not one single thing about any aspect of our meal was off. The service was terrific. I recommend most highly and will absolutely return the next time in Wilmington!"

  • "We like the variety of foods and flavors at Caprice Bistro. Very high quality ingredients and everything is always cooked to perfection. High quality service too, one of very few restaurantst where waiters are professionals. Old style bistro ambience right downtown, Possibly our favorite restaurant in Wilmington."

  • "Great food that is fresh and well prepared!! Excellent value!!!"

  • "The menu is french but the actual food is not really cooked as I knew it to be when I grew up in France. I had the Coq au Vin - which was not bad but it was lacking in wine - the sauce was watery and greasy no what a lavish wine reduction would normally be. My wife ate the rabbit a la moutard ... she got two legs instead of one leg and breast ... she felt the mustard sauce was not fresh. My son ate the pork lion which was actually very good. The food arrived and was not warm. The deserts were also very"

  • "Enjoyed our first visit to Caprice Bistro. Wine list was substantial with many European favorites. Rose was crisp and moderately acidic; a nice alternative not generally found in most restaurants. Started with crepe au fromage and it was excellent-delectable, light crepe was perfectly prepared and the medley of cheeses were taste tantalizing. Mussels in curry sauce were succulent. The fresh sprigs of thyme were "interesting" but to enjoy the thyme one had to harvest the herb. Bread was crusty and served with a mixed oil and balsamic. Pomme frittes served with the mussels. Very enjoyable salad selections Dessert was wonderful--had the creme anglaise with a raspberry coulis--outstanding! And yes this restaurant has very good cappuccino."

  • "This was our second time here. This time we ate upstairs where there is a bar, couches for sitting and a few tables. We found this cozier than downstairs. I had the escargot and the seafood dish and enjoyed both. My husband had the soup and steak. Again well prepared. Service was excellent."

  • "The menu offers standard French meals including several selections of steamed or braised mussels in a variety of sauces. We ordered the Pork Tenderloin accompanied by mashed potatoes preceded by salads. All food was well prepared and had a pleasing plating apperance. The dessert list offered several classic French style selections and we found both items we had as very good. The wait staff was attentive and service time was not rushed as it was a Tuesday evening. A well rounded wine list is available as well as a full bar. The price value is in the high side with dinner for two with a glass of wine and a mixed drink, salads, entrees and dessert totaling $90.00 plus taxes. A good find in a city dominated by burger and pizza places."

  • "Wonderful intimate restaurant in the historic area of Wilmington. Great wine by the glass selection. Food is tasty, delicious and well presented. My husband got the seafood stew dish that was our favorite. Great location and atmosphere."

  • "Food and service outstanding! A little noisy, but quieted after a near by group left. They apparently were hard of hearing and conversed rather loudly!"

  • "I'm not from Wilmington and visited with my boyfriend for dinner after hearing great recommendations. We were seated in a cozy spot by the front window, and had great service the entire night! The chairs were very far apart across the table for our liking and we felt we had to lean in to talk to one another, but other than that, we loved everything about the restaurant. I got the pork dish, which was very good but not particularly special, and my boyfriend got the duck confit, which was wonderful. We also got a class of wine each, and prices for both food and drink were very reasonable. We would highly recommend this restaurant (especially the duck) to anyone wanting a special and fun night out!"

  • "Caprice has always been our favorite since we moved to Wilmington in 2012. The food is always great, the Waterzooi was absolutely delicious. Jay is a very personable waiter and also one of the reasons we like coming there."

  • "My wife and I come to Wilmington 1-2 times a year. Our first "must" is dinner at Caprice Bistro. Great atmosphere, exceptional quality, and great service...time after time. Caprice is one of our favorites of everywhere we have been. Don't miss it."

  • "The Tuesday night special was boeuf bourguignon, and it was delicious. As I love this dish I have ordered in numerous restaurants in the US and France. Also, my wife makes a great one based on a Julia Child recipe. The one at Caprice may be the best I ever had. And their house wine was a delicious Rhone and cost only $28 for a bottle."

  • "We go to Caprice Bistro every time we visit Wilmington! In our opinion, it is by far the best restaurant in the area. We have lived in many major cities across the country and Caprice Bistro can match up to any of the outstanding restaurants we have been to. In addition to the food, the have done an outstanding job with the ambience. You feel as though you are in Europe!"

  • "Caprice lived up to its reviews as one of the best restaurants in Wilmington. Service was prompt & courteous, perfectly attuned to our needs. The food was exquisite--rabbit sausage & the house specialty waterzooi (a mix of seafood in creamy herb sauce) were sublime. It's cozy but it fits the bistro atmosphere. We loved it."

  • "If you crave traditional French bistro food, Caprice Bistro is your place. In the heart of old Wilmingtom, NC, the bar/lounge is upstairs, a perfect place for a pre-dinner libation. Seated for dinner downstairs in the dining room, we enjoyed attentive service by knowledgeable staff. Our entrees varied from steak frites to duck confit.I had the special swordfish with a savory mushroom sauce. The starters exceeded expectations: escargot, country pate, grilled romaine salad. The only disappointment was that they were out of mussels, which they famously offer with three different sauces. If I ever find myself in Wilmington again, I will head back to Caprice for my French bistro fix, mussels and all."

  • "This was our second visit to Caprice Bistro. We hoped that it would be as enjoyable as our first time dining there. The experience was as we hoped. The courses were timed perfectly, the menu choices exceptional, service was top notch, food was delicious and served so hot that we enjoyed it to the last bite!! I had requested a private table for the four of us. We were led upstairs to an eclectic, relaxing atmosphere, which gave us the privacy to have good conversation. And, we were given seats at the window. Their attention to my request was obvious, which we so appreciated. Caprice Bistro is becoming one of our top "go to" restaurants in Wilmington! Thank you management and staff at CP for providing us an exceptional dining experience!"

  • "As always, Caprice serves up the best drinks and food in town, all at tolerable tariffs. Staff is equipped with food and beverage knowledge and delivers it up consisely to all. A flair of European dining in a small Southern city that will be appreciated by all who enjoy that direction. "

  • "This restaurant is always our favorite place to dine. The food and service is outstanding. Caprice Bistro was a big factor in moving to Wilmington after retirement. It is, without a doubt, the best restaurant in Wilmington. Every time we dine there we feel as if we are back in France."

  • "Small place with tables close together. Food was great. Our server was just doing his job. We learned of the specials from another server at the table beside ours. Yes, I said they are close together, They are. Our table had 4 different Entrees and they were all great. French Martini was good, Cocktail was small. Only complaint I have is they take the French Onion Soup off the menu in the summer. "

  • "The lovely Caprice Bistro once again earned its title as #1 ranked restaurant in Wilmington. We took our visiting nieces there for their birthday celebration. No fuss, no bother, no staff gathered for a noisy "Happy Birthday" song (they're 20, and would have been embarrassed.) Just the usual experience: food cooked with care, excellent presentation, personal attention from Caprice's star server, Jay. We had mussels mariniere and heirloom tomato salad for starters, then Pork Normandy, Coq au Vin, and Steak Frites. No room for dessert after all the bread dipped in the mussels' broth! Lovely 1/2 price bottle of wine (special Sunday offering). Couldn't be more pleased. We feel like family here, which I think says it all."

  • "When friends visited from out of town, we wanted to take them some place special. Caprice Bistro was, without a doubt, the right choice. We started at the martini bar for a few delicious martinis. We each ordered appetizers and each of us loved them. My husband and I had the escargot, which is always superb. Our friends each got the mussels - one with curry and the other had the marinere. They also loved them. Each of us thoroughly enjoyed our delicious entrees. I had the always amazing Waterzooi, my husband had the trout, and our friends had the surf and turf special and the coq au vin. All entrees were incredible. Our meal was topped off with delicious desserts. I cannot say enough about this superb restaurant and friendly service. "

  • "I went with my mother for dinner expecting an exceptional meal based on all the reviews. We both order Steak Fritz. My mother's steak was perfect, caramelized on the outside, juicy on the inside. My steak was grey and juiceless, even though I requested medium rare. I sent it back and "the Chef" cooked the second steak. It came out exactly the same way. In addition, our fries arrived to the table 10 minutes before the steak and they lacked that special French Crisp. I called over the waiter to ask what was up with sending the meal out partially and then taking forever to send out the rest. They brought out a second batch of fries when the steak arrive, which were still missing the Crisp. I hate when my expectations are let down."

  • "This was our second visit to Caprice Bistro and it did not disappoint. The food was excellent and the service very good. Highly recommend the waterzooi and the trigger fish special was perfectly cooked and delicious. It can be a little loud when it is full, but it is manageable and worth it for the food. "

  • "I noted that my wife and I would be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary on the night of our reservation. They definitely made note of it because they wished us "Happy Anniversary" when we arrived and gave us what may be the best table in the restaurant. Our server, the food, the ambience were all excellent. We shared wonderful mussels, then my wife had the duck confit and I had the pork tenderloin with a Calvados cream sauce (too good). We would certainly go back."

  • "Our meals at Caprice Bistro are always excellent, as is the service and the atmosphere. We've had the trout twice and it is fantastic. The rabbit sausage is ... scrumptious. I could go down the entire menu because everything on it is great. We've never been disappointed. The place is small but cozy and romantic. Upstairs are comfy couches and a fun place to have appetizers or desserts. Caprice is our go-to restaurant for special occasions and when friends are visiting from out of town. Highly recommended!"

  • "I love this restaurant. The minute you walk in the door the Hostess greets you with warmth and "glad you are here" attitude. The food is outstanding and the wait staff, professional, efficient and fun. The wine bar upstairs is a great place to hang out before or after dinner or to just hang out. I've been to Paris twice and this is such a wonderful reminder of a Parisian bistro. The only down side is that if the restaurant is half full or more it tends to be quite noisy. "
