A word from Caprice Bistro
Thierry and Patricia Moity were previous owners of Patou Bistro in Charlotte, NC and Cafe de Bruxelles in New York City.

Delight in Chef Thierry Moity's traditional French cuisine. Chef Moity, who has been cooking since age 13 in some of the finest French restaurants in Europe and New York City. The French cuisine is influenced by a combination of traditions-Patricia comes from the northern part of France near the Belgium border, while Thierry's origins are deeply rooted in the central provinces of the country.

According to Chef Moity, the food is served fast paced and in generous portions." I want everyone to feel welcome in my restaurant". We are working against the stereotype that French food must be intimidating and expensive.

Been coming for ten years, always solid, the owners are awesome folks (and I think they must live there, ha!) and the servers know their stuff. Has an intimate yet still busy feel... Great spot for a first date as you can hear each other but it's not awkwardly quiet if you take a breath and stop talking about yourself. Versatile wine and cocktail selection and very reasonably priced menu.

  • Disappointing Big 50th B-day dinner with my Mom.

I made my reservation for my elderly Mother and myself for my big 50th Birthday based on excellent TripAdvisor reviews and the historic district location. They encouraged my 80 year old mobility challenged Mother to climb upstairs to a table while I parked the car. When I arrived, I found her on a drafty window side table. We both commented on the chill (despite the 60's degree temp outside). The waitress promised to check the temperature. We moved one seat away from the window and the waitress clearly did NOT warm the temperatures. We ordered the Moules Mriniere. Despite the freshness and the quantity of the mussels, we were disappointed. The sauce was a bit bland- more lemon or garlic was seriously needed. The sauce quantity was lower than expected. (We have had this dish in France, Quebec and Charleston many times). Nonetheless, we love mussels. We asked for bread on multiple occasions, but received no refills. In addition, both my Mother and I (as well as the reservation) mentioned my birthday celebration. I specifically said that I wanted to have a piece of birthday cake. When I ordered the only cake on the menu, it took another 15 minutes to learn that it was sold out. I got a microscopic slicing of supposed apple strudel with a tablespoon of caramel ice cream instead. It was more than disappointing. The waitress was distracted and frankly quite lazy. We will not be back and we will NOT recommend it to others. I will make sure to share my review on all social media sites.

I love Caprice--it has been my favorite in town for 11 years. You will eat real food there which is not enhanced by the usual food industry's goo--how do you know that? My test is to try a bite next day without warming the food up--if it still tastes delicious it is real food: Caprice always passes the test. Vegetables are made to perfection and herbs used beautifully in this restaurant. Wine pour used to be generous, more generous than anywhere else in town. Sometimes lately it has not. For the many times I've been there and brought business to the place (I am sure tons of others do too) I'd expected to be treated as a costumer, not just a client. Oh well... You cannot have it all.

Been here twice before. Portions very small. Coq au Vin very disappointing. Too over cooked. Must have been reheated because temp of entree was very inconsistent. Very little chicken, very small portion of potatoes and vegetables. Poor value. Poor quality. Will not return.

A truly French Bistro ambiance, with a pleasant welcome, attentive knowledgeable service, fantastic food with delicious flavours great presentation, the strong french influence obvious throughout and a fantastic wine offer on a Sunday night half price bottles for some wines I chose the house red as I guessed a French owner would not dissapoint, it was very pleasant and French. A thoroughly enjoyable evening from an English couple passing through town.

My favorite restaurant for a quiet celebration and, as usual, they did not disappoint. Butternut bisque for a starter - delicious. Entrees were perfect, but I go for the desserts. He had the brulee and I had the macaroons - awesome. Love there is this little place in downtown Wilmington that consistently provides quality - in food, service and ambiance.

We had to keep reminding ourselves that this lovely gem of a restaurant was in Wilmington. We could have been in any major foodie city. Every dish was a delight to the taste buds. I barely mentioned to the waitress that one fish entree was a slight bit dry and it was promptly removed from our bill which we were not expecting at all. The waitress was attentive and friendly, as were all of the staff. Loved the little touch of pillows on the benches to add to the diners' comfort. We loved this place and will be back!

I recently moved to Wilmington and had 3 friends visiting. I have yet to find that special restaurant but Caprice Bistro was highly recommended. I was not disappointed. We were greeted instantly and seated. Our server was excellent providing a description of many of the menu choices along with recommendations for our different palates. The food did not disappoint. We shared the smoked seafood appetizer. The wasabi could have been a tad hotter for my taste, but spot on for my companions. The salad dressing was light, and lemony. Our salmon and waterzooie dishes (a plethora of different fish in a creamy broth) came hot and delicious and we ate way too much baguette to soak up every drop of the broth. My go-to place in Wilmington.

I asked my wife where she would like to go for her birthday dinner and she picked the same restaurant I picked for my birthday dinner, Caprice Bistro. What a great place! The food is superb, with a selection that makes your mouth water. I have to keep going back, so I can try some of the other great choices on the menu. My wife went with fish; I went with pork; our friends went with beef. It was all great! And the profiteroles capped everything off perfectly. The service is always cordial and attentive and the European feel makes Caprice Bistro someplace special. Highly recommended.

The place was freezing and they could not warm it up. It was extremly noisy. We booked hours in advance but could not get the upstairs dining. The difference between night and day. We went back later in the evening and enjoyed a couple of drinks upstairs where it was a lot quieter and cozy. The only way we would go back is if we could eat upstairs.

A delightful vibrant bistro. There is an energy in the restaurant created by both the staff and patrons. The dinner was superb. There is a good wine selection and wines by the glass were very high quality. The menu has a broad range of French favorites. The tomato tart was a superb appetizer. My wife greatly enjoyed the vegetarian crepe while I had a steak and frites that was cooked to just the right temperature. We shared an excellent pear tart for desert.

We just had our anniversary dinner at Caprice Bistro and had an excellent experience. We ate upstairs in the near the lounge area and the ambiance was really good. The service was attentive, but not overbearing. We had a appetizer trio that included duck liver pate, seared tuna, and french cheeses. All were really good. I had the steak frites (strip steak) and my wife had mussels. Mine was excellent and hers was good as well. My only minor complaint is that some of the mussels were cooked a little too long, but it was a large plate and I know its difficult to get them all to open at the same time. We would definitely eat here again.

We met a nice couple that was having dinner at the bar and gave great recommendation. They had our table set and ready right on time. This restaurant is horribly noisy. The food is good, the service can be good, but it is so noisy that people are shouting to be heard, which makes it even noisier. The tables are very close together, which coupled with the lack of soft surfaces to absorb the noise, conversation is next to impossible. The air conditioning duct which runs uncovered on the ceiling, throws air directly down on those sitting on the banquette. We were there on a Sunday night and the restaurant was not quite full, but the noise level was high. Fewer tables, carpets on the floor, and a better grouping of tables would make this restaurant a real standout.

Visited Wilmington to celebrate a recent anniversary and made a point of making a reservation at Caprice Bistro. Our table was downstairs and my wife asked if we could be seated upstairs and they were able to get us seated upstairs in a very nice and relaxing dining area. We started with calamari followed by mushroom crepe, onion tart and grouper entree. Each dish was better than the last including the creme brulee and coffee to finish a great meal. Staff were amazing and we had a very memorable evening.

Had a very good dinner at Caprice this past Friday night. Service was very good. Main courses were excellent, one of us had the steak which was cooked to the proper degree and my husband had the lamb shank which was also excellent. Perhaps the only flaw was the heirloom tomato salad which was the special that night, several of the tomatoes were not ripe and it wasn't worth the price. Overall, a lovely dinner at a restaurant we have been to several times and it doesn't disappoint!
