A word from Caprice Bistro
Thierry and Patricia Moity were previous owners of Patou Bistro in Charlotte, NC and Cafe de Bruxelles in New York City. Delight in Chef Thierry Moity's traditional French cuisine. Chef Moity, who has been cooking since age 13 in some of the finest French restaurants in Europe and New York City. The French cuisine is influenced by a combination of traditions-Patricia comes from the northern part of France near the Belgium border, while Thierry's origins are deeply rooted in the central provinces of the country. According to Chef Moity, the food is served fast paced and in generous portions." I want everyone to feel welcome in my restaurant". We are working against the stereotype that French food must be intimidating and expensive. Continued

  • "Best Wilmington restaurant by far. Have had the Beef Bourginone and the Coq au Vin. Both outstanding. Presentation is perfect -- salad served on cold plate entrees on very hot plate!! Recommend the french onion soup."

  • "Even though it was Azela festival weekend and I usually do not travel any where near the downtown area this restaurant was worth the time it took to get to it. The food was excellent and so was the service."

  • "We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary visiting WIlmington. Caprice was lovely!. Food was outstanding and service to match. We shared the mussels. Plenty for two (small order); the french bread was VERY good and "fresh". I had the Tuesday special. It was marvelous. I was almost embarrassed. I ate the WHOLE thing. My husband had the pasta..it would have been nice to offer seafood or meat in the pasta. It was a bit bland. BUT still very good. It would have been a nice touch if the restaurant had given us a "special" complimentary dessert since we were celebrating our anniversary. With so many restaurants in the area (and VERY good ones), and we spent a lot of money there, a small dessert would have been a nice. touch. Oh well."

  • "This was our third visit, and one of our favorite restaurant in Wilmington. The grouper was very good with a lovely presentation. Service is attentive and our server made very good recommendations."

  • "Nice bistro atmosphere and very good food, with good and moderately priced house wine, just as in France..."

  • "We were in Wilmington for a wedding and had dinner on our first night in town at Caprice. The menu had a nice selection of items, more than the French restaurant we go to at home. The mussels were very good as was my husband's trout. Also the smoked fish and seafood appetizer was delicious. Interesting drink menu too."

  • "We're out-of-towners who've dined at Caprice more than a dozen times in the last several years. It has always been superb, our favorite restaurant, period. We've brought our family and friends here, and always the same. Superb. On this visit, for dear Wilmington friends whom we took to dinner, it was superb: splendid Waterzoi and Mussels Mariniere. For my wife and I, a first: great disappointment - filet that was badly overcooked, sea bass badly undercooked. We mentioned the steak to our server, who had it removed from our bill. She was otherwise inattentive. (We've NEVER had a service issue here.) Apps were fine, as was a pleasant, inexpensive Macon. Of course we'll be back, but I suspect Thierry was not in the kitchen this night."

  • "This small restaurant - bistro - is charming, very reminiscent of northern Europe. We expected a delightful dinner and were not disappointed, it was very well prepared, well presented. We would absolutely recommend the restaurant to anyone interested in fine dining. It met our every expectation."

  • "Recently enjoyed a delightful dinner at Caprice bistro. The service was attentive and the ambiance was quite charming. Understand they have a very nice bar area with sofas upstairs, but we were seated in the downstairs dining room that was very nice as well. We shared a salmon rillette appetizer that was just wonderful. My husband had a mixed seafood stew that he absolutely loved. I had a filet mignon that was cooked perfectly. It was too much for me so my husband helped me finish it. We had a couple of glasses of really nice wines from the wine list. All in all a terrific meal. We will definitely return!"

  • "I went with my husband for a special occasion dinner and we really enjoyed the food. We got a small order of mussels to start and they were delicious. I ordered the Coq au vin and it was probably the best I've had. Our waiter did forget to bring out one of the things we had ordered, but overall, a great night!"

  • "We went on last night of Wilmington's Spring Restaurant Week 2014. Ordered from the 3 course menu. Everything was prepared well and very delicious. Wait staff was very friendly, attentive and informative. Perfect dining experience. The ONLY caution is, as their website states, the setting is like a French Bistro where tables are close and you feel you are dining with the next table. Not a bad thing but wanted diners to be aware. Great welcoming atmosphere (patrons, management and especially wait staff) and will come back!"

  • "Caprice Bistro is a great place in Downtown Wilmington. They had great food, great ambience , and great service. The food was excellent and will be going back. Despite Caprice being an upscale restaurant, it was not priced as such and paid less money than other restaurants in the area that could not match the level of overall excellence of Caprice. I will be back and recommend this place to everyone!"

  • "We love the atmosphere at Caprice and the food is always amazing. Be sure to get a drink upstairs and try to eat up there. It is a cozy sofa bar with a few tables. The mussels are my absolute favorite and steak was cooked perfectly. We had two desserts, cream puffs and floating Island(meringue), and they were both wonderful."

  • "Price $30 per person. Three course menu. Items are available on the regular menu. The pork cheeks and faux gras(not fois gras) were excellent. Server was very clear and informative about the menu and its ingredients while also making suggestions quickly and efficiently. The beef stew was tasty but contained very fatty meat with big chunks of fat and a bit greasy. The fish was great and perfectly cooked to my taste which is a bit underdone which makes it moist and tender. The floating island was excellent and the macaroons were a bit stale but the accompanying dollop of chocolate mousse was excellent. overall a great atmosphere and experience. We will return for the atmosphere, location and food."

  • "Everything about our last visit to Caprice Bistro was memorable. The meal was amazing, the service was wonderful, and the table was perfect. We could not have asked for more. We decided to try the Restaurant Week pre fixe menu, as the price was right. We started with frog legs and escargot, which were both delicious. Our entrees, duck confit and coq au vin, were also wonderful. Our meal ended on a high note with the pistachio creme brûlée and floating island. This whole meal and experience confirmed that we will definitely return, and soon."

  • "Who would have thought in seafood-oriented Wilmington that a French restaurant exists there that tops all! This small, cozy Bistro takes you into another world, one of delicious and authentic French offerings. The big black pot of mussels in a garlic basil red sauce is superb. You don't want to get to the bottom of the pot. A floating island in a raspberry custard was also memorable. I shouldn't leave out the grilled Romaine salad. Wonderful! The service was perfect - professional, attentive and friendly. Every course was paced beautifully. My only suggestion would be to add a little decor. Maybe some lanterns or candles? French napkins? This would make the French experience complete!"

  • "As always, dinner at Caprice is a MUST when we come to Wilmington. The grouper is always my favorite. It's always a treat to see what crème brulee is on the menu. The owners and staff are always friendly and the service is wonderful. We hate to come to Wilmington and not eat at Caprice Bistro. I always recommend it to friends or tourists we meet on the street who ask for suggestions."

  • "This was a great place to find in Wilmington. The food was very good, although I was a little disappointed in the escargot preparation. Everyone else at my table thought their meals were superb. The service was really good; friendly and personable staff. I would deffanately go back."

  • "in North Carolina. Something you have to try. Great appetizers, great menu, and a tempting dessert list. There is even a 150yr old Grand Marnier on the menu for dessert. The ONLY knock against the place is the wine list is on the smaller side; however, there is something that will pair nicely with everything on the menu. You have to try this place. Worth the trip!"

  • "Went here for my wife's birthday and the food was awesome! She got Mussels and Fries and got a very large of helping of delicious mussels and I got the Steak Frites (meat was cooked perfectly and was tender and moist). The fries came in little fry baskets which was a nice touch with mayo. Overall a great restaurant, highly recommend it for special occasions."

  • "On a Monday night, during an icy drive from Raleigh, I found this gem open and accepting late reservations for a week night and a Monday. We arrived at 8:30 to find several tables still occupied. We were the last ones to leave but never felt rushed. Our waiter Chris was extremely nice. If they only had a better wine by the glass listing, it would have been perfect!"

  • "Six of us celebrated my wife's birthday at Caprice Bistro. None of us had been there previously but the good reviews sold us and we were all six more than delighted. We each ordered different things and all had wonderful meals. I have not been to a finer spot to eat in the Wilmington area, so I'd highly suggest you trying it also."

  • "Never before was I a fan of "French Food". Caprice Bistro has made me a convert. The menu is simple but varied and is cooked to perfection. The wait staff was very knowledgeable and friendly and served with a smile. I would recommend Caprice Bistro for a romantic dinner with your wife or sweetheart or for a small group of four or less"

  • "The food here was excellent. Rabbit sausage appetizer was a little different, very good sauce around it. Arugula pear salad very tasty, obvious that the ingredients were fresh. Bison ribs were fall off the bone and hearty taste, steak was excellent. Overall, very very good food!"

  • "Always wanted to try this place. It reminded of the restaurants I would frequent in Western Europe. Well it exceeded expectation. The food was outstanding and the service was excellent. It was easily the best meal I have had in the greater Wilmington area. I choose the tuna special which was cooked to perfection. I will definitely be back for a visit."

  • "My husband and I found Caprice Bistro online while driving for a visit to Wilmington. We liked our evening there. The downstairs is noisy (it is a bistro) and we couldn't get a table for 2 upstairs, except out in the middle of the room, so we settled for downstairs. There is not an extensive wine list----only about 4 choices of red wines----and our wine was OK. Once we ordered dinner it came very quickly, but was very good. We both had the salmon en croute which was good although slightly dry, as the plates were extremely hot. Overall I would recommend CB."

  • "We've been to Caprice Bistro on several occasions since we moved here two years ago. It's become our favorite Wilmington restaurant. This time, however, it was a shade short of totally outstanding. My wife had the special of the day, salmon encrusted in pastry. It just wasn't up to expectations. Pastry was not crisp and the flavor was un-special. She's going back to her old favorite, Waterzooie (sp?). My favorite, the Filet Mignon Au Poivre was it's usual wonderful. The steak frites, however, weren't as crispy as they usually are. Not a big deal, but they've set a high bar of expectations."

  • "Dined at the Caprice Bistro last Saturday evening. The food was excellent. The vegetable crepe was light and aromatic. A good production. The mussels were tender and sweet in a rich marinara base. Our server was very attentive and prompt. Two downsides to the meal. Patrons coming and going caused copious amounts of frigid air to enter the dining area. Many folks were eating wearing their coats and jackets. Probably the most serious problem with Caprice is the level of noise. The din was quite distracting and at times very uncomfortable. Maybe we encountered particularly loud-mouthed folks this evening, but our guess is that the noise is an inherent problem here."

  • "I have nothing bad to say about Caprice Bistro. A lot of people may complain about how tight it is with how small the restaurant is, but that's part of the experience with it being a French restaurant..that's how it is in France! Luckily, my party of 4 was placed in a perfect corner booth because we were celebrating a birthday. Our appetizers, entrees, and desserts were all absolutely amazing. After dinner, we headed upstairs to the sofa bar for drinks and it's a really nice atmosphere. I will definitely be back to Caprice Bistro soon!"
