A word from Caprice Bistro
Thierry and Patricia Moity were previous owners of Patou Bistro in Charlotte, NC and Cafe de Bruxelles in New York City.

Delight in Chef Thierry Moity's traditional French cuisine. Chef Moity, who has been cooking since age 13 in some of the finest French restaurants in Europe and New York City. The French cuisine is influenced by a combination of traditions-Patricia comes from the northern part of France near the Belgium border, while Thierry's origins are deeply rooted in the central provinces of the country.

According to Chef Moity, the food is served fast paced and in generous portions." I want everyone to feel welcome in my restaurant". We are working against the stereotype that French food must be intimidating and expensive.

  • "We come here a few times a month and it never disappoints. The food is quite good and relatively simple. Staff is pleasant if not a little wooden and scripted."

  • "In Wilmington for the weekend and wanted to revisit an old favorite. Did not disappoint. Wonderful salads, amazing mussels, flavorful salmon. Wines suggested by the server were nice accompaniment."

  • "Our daughter and husband always eat here whenever they visit Wilmington. We finally went with them and now we understand the raving. The restaurant has great charm. The menu has great variety and the quality of the food is first class. You will not be disappointed."

  • "If you want utterly delectable dishes served in a casual and welcoming atmosphere, then try Caprice Bistro. Attentive but not cloying waitstaff, and great variety of menu offerings and prices--exactly what a bistro should be. Everyone in our group was most pleased with their meals, especially the steak, fish and savory crepes. We all had a taste of the Triple Chocolate Mousse for dessert--small portion, but sublime. We shall return, avec plaisir!"

  • "Again, a wonderful dinner @ Caprice. I had the mussels w/white wine & garlic sauce. I just wish there had been more bread to soak up the yummy sauce. My husband had the delectable duck, my son's lamb was cooked superbly and his girlfriend really liked the pasta and rabbit. I did not care for their cosmopolitan, but the profiteroles were outrageously good! Caprice is a great food find!"

  • "But bring a warm wrap! The food is wonderful-sublime, presentation is attractive. The tomato tart and Bistro steak are both favorites, but the Coq au vin, Onion soup, and Salmon are also notable. I love the Pomme Frites, but the air conditioning was so cold it froze out my potatoes, and me. This restaurant offers attentive, but not intrusive, service; I cannot comment on the wine list since I do not drink. The front window seat is my favorite, but you have to reserve this specially. Caprice is a little gem in Wilmington, I don't think anyone would regret it."

  • "Caprice is one of our favorite restaurants in Wilmington - we have always been pleased with the food, service and ambiance. We each had a cocktail - delicious and potent - and shared the grilled romaine salad. I had the pasta of the day, which was a primavera with good flavor, although it could have used more vegetables. My husband had the waterzooi, a house specialty, which he said was very good. We split a nice bottle of 2011 Cotes du Rhone. You can't go wrong at Caprice!"

  • "We have been here many times. It is the place we go for birthdays, anniversaries and anything we feel happy about. The food is lovely, the atmosphere is european, the staff is VERY good (never in your face, but always taking care of you). Not a place for kids or large groups, but that is one of the reasons we love it!"

  • "There were no misses in this meal. The pate was sublime and the rabbit special was excellent. The tarte tintin, one of the best ever. Chris took very good care of us. Excellent meal at a very affordable price."

  • "I live in downtown Wilmington and have been dining at Caprice Bistro for many years. Whether I'm meeting girlfriends midweek or enjoying a special occasion dinner with my husband, Caprice is always the perfect spot! The ambience, service, and of course the food, are truly exceptional. A few of my favorite dishes include: Mussels Mariniere, Trout Caroline, Waterzooi, and the endive salad. Also worth noting is very reasonable pricing for high quality gourmet fare!"

  • "Two years ago when I was staying at a B&B in the historic area I came upon Caprice and had dinner there. Now I live in Wilmington and everyone who visits me is treated to a dinner at Caprice. For over 30 years I lived in Germany and could go to France for lunch. I traveled in France many times and finding food as good as that at Caprice is not easy!"

  • "Came here for anniversary dinner because it was recommended by our B&B host, and we could get a reservation. Had a wonderful dinner starting with appetizer (smoked seafood, gazpacho) and main course Waterzooi and crepe (mushroom). All were excellent as well as the service. They explained the menu, perfectly timed the courses and checked in to make sure all was well. An excellent dining experience."

  • "Caprice is an intimate restaurant, this time we were seated upstairs right by a window, it was fantastic. My French Martini was perfect as was the special salad of the day tomato, goat cheese and balsamic! Two of us had the Coq Au Vin, which was good as always. My husband had the steak frites, his steak was perfect."

  • "The food is creative and delicious. This was our first time in Wilmington, NC and we found this neighborhood gem on our next to the last night. We plan to come back again and will return to our two favorite restaurants - Caprice Bistro and Pilot House (very different from each other). If you LOVE food with flavor, this is the place for you."

  • "Wow!! We (party of 3) had an absolutely delightful meal and a wonderful time at Caprice Bistro on a Thursday evening. We were seated upstairs next to a window overlooking downtown which was lovely. The atmosphere was lovely and decor beautiful. There is a lovely bar upstairs with a number of dining tables as well as sofa seating. Beautiful original artwork. The real gem was the quality of our meals and the service. Everything was just fabulous. We ordered wine, a cheese board appetizer, salads, entrees, and desserts. Not one single thing about any aspect of our meal was off. The service was terrific. I recommend most highly and will absolutely return the next time in Wilmington!"

  • "The menu is french but the actual food is not really cooked as I knew it to be when I grew up in France. I had the Coq au Vin - which was not bad but it was lacking in wine - the sauce was watery and greasy no what a lavish wine reduction would normally be. My wife ate the rabbit a la moutard ... she got two legs instead of one leg and breast ... she felt the mustard sauce was not fresh. My son ate the pork lion which was actually very good. The food arrived and was not warm. The deserts were also very"

  • "Enjoyed our first visit to Caprice Bistro. Wine list was substantial with many European favorites. Rose was crisp and moderately acidic; a nice alternative not generally found in most restaurants. Started with crepe au fromage and it was excellent-delectable, light crepe was perfectly prepared and the medley of cheeses were taste tantalizing. Mussels in curry sauce were succulent. The fresh sprigs of thyme were "interesting" but to enjoy the thyme one had to harvest the herb. Bread was crusty and served with a mixed oil and balsamic. Pomme frittes served with the mussels. Very enjoyable salad selections Dessert was wonderful--had the creme anglaise with a raspberry coulis--outstanding! And yes this restaurant has very good cappuccino."

  • "This was our second time here. This time we ate upstairs where there is a bar, couches for sitting and a few tables. We found this cozier than downstairs. I had the escargot and the seafood dish and enjoyed both. My husband had the soup and steak. Again well prepared. Service was excellent."

  • "The menu offers standard French meals including several selections of steamed or braised mussels in a variety of sauces. We ordered the Pork Tenderloin accompanied by mashed potatoes preceded by salads. All food was well prepared and had a pleasing plating apperance. The dessert list offered several classic French style selections and we found both items we had as very good. The wait staff was attentive and service time was not rushed as it was a Tuesday evening. A well rounded wine list is available as well as a full bar. The price value is in the high side with dinner for two with a glass of wine and a mixed drink, salads, entrees and dessert totaling $90.00 plus taxes. A good find in a city dominated by burger and pizza places."

  • "Wonderful intimate restaurant in the historic area of Wilmington. Great wine by the glass selection. Food is tasty, delicious and well presented. My husband got the seafood stew dish that was our favorite. Great location and atmosphere."

  • "I'm not from Wilmington and visited with my boyfriend for dinner after hearing great recommendations. We were seated in a cozy spot by the front window, and had great service the entire night! The chairs were very far apart across the table for our liking and we felt we had to lean in to talk to one another, but other than that, we loved everything about the restaurant. I got the pork dish, which was very good but not particularly special, and my boyfriend got the duck confit, which was wonderful. We also got a class of wine each, and prices for both food and drink were very reasonable. We would highly recommend this restaurant (especially the duck) to anyone wanting a special and fun night out!"
