A word from Caprese, A Mediterranean Grill
Enjoy a taste of a contemporary interpretation of the Mediterranean by Caprese. Step inside our calm and warm colored dining room to experience a menu that uses traditional ingredients and cuisine from the Mediterranean and delivers them to you in a way that you cannot find anywhere else in Old Town Alexandria.

You can still find your favorite traditional dishes like the Caprese salad, but reinterpreted with a creamy burrata mozzarella cheese. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can try entrees that take ingredients from throughout the Mediterranean and deliver a flavor you will want to try over and over again.

I didn't realize while looking at the Opentable app that this restaurant is in a hotel, and it was not a very pleasant experience. We were in a large room with few other guests, the lighting was extremely bright, just no atmosphere at all. The food was decent but nothing special. While prices weren't prohibitive, I did not think this represented a good value. Our service was sporadic, although I attribute that primarily to the fact that our server was very inexperienced. I don't blame her, but she should have had some guidance and supervision to serve us and the other diners.

The person who was wiping down the tables offered us a seat even though it was clear the restaurant was closed. We took it upon ourselves to evaluate the situation and knew we would be disappointed in the service and the food, if we were going to have to eat quickly.

This restaurant is part of a hotel. It was not what we expected. We waited until last minute to make a reservation for Valentines day dinner for 4 so we did not have many options. The restaurant is attached to the Embassy Suites in Alexandria. The food was only okay and too expensive to be only okay. The place was practically empty and we were waiting for at least 30 min before a waiter came over to us. After the waiter took our order another waitress came in his place and she was much more attentive. Dessert was very good. Overall it was not awful but it was not great however I would not recommend it.

The restaurant was difficult to get into because of the cold temperatures all the outside entrances were locked. We had to walk to the hotel entrance to get in. The food was a disappointment. We had steak which was okay but had been smothered in brown gravy that tasted like the powdered mix- way too salty. We also ordered a jambalaya. It tasted okay, however it tasted nothing like jambalaya. It was bland and tasted more like tomato paste with bell peppers.

I went for Alexandria restaurant week and for a 3 course meal for $35 it was a very good deal. I had ordered a bottle of wine for the table that doubled the bill and was surprised when I had to ask for it again. The waiter was very attentive besides replacing silverware that he cleared. Also was a bit disappointed that the candle I requested to come with desert on Open table was not fufilled.

Had a nice, reasonably priced and good meal at Caprese during Restaurant Week. Service was a bit disjointed and slow, however. Not sure if servers were also handling the much larger bar area on the other side of the wall.

It was a little hard finding the location since it was right next door to the Embassy Suites, actually it was inside the Embassy but you can't see it from Diagnol Rd because the main entrance is inside the foyer but besides that the service was horrible. It took a little too long for me to get the food and it wasn't that busy but they had a big party there and they mostly catered to this group. The selection was mediocre because it was restaurant week, so since I went because of that I had only a couple of choices. Me and my date had the steak. Mine was ok, but pretty much flavorless besides the taste of char from the grill but it lacked seasoning. My date's steak was not cooked properly. Probably wont return.

The restaraunt was okay, the ambiance and setting was nice and had good space For old town. We got there and no one was there to attend to us so we had to wander around looking for a waiter or service person that wasnt chatting with someone else. They appeared to be clueless about our reservation and stuck us at a table, even though i had specific requests noted in the reserveration to sit outdoors. I asked and theu easily let it happen. I expected the outdoors to be nicer and the service be more attentive. The food that i personally ordered, i regret. I admit maybe it was just not my type of food and shouldve ordered a salad instead but im sure the food overall was fine for everyone else. In all, i wouldve picked a different restarunt.

I have seen the sign for the restaurant, but wasn't sure if it was only outdoor dining. Glad I took and chance and tried it! The server was excellent and, at a table of 6 diners, all of the food was delicious! It is somewhat confusing as to where to enter the restaurant from the street. There should be a designated entrance from the outside and a sign clearly posted above that entrance.

It was the only restaurant I could find not too far from King St metro that could accommodate a group of 9 (with about 6 day's notice). The ambiance is pretty good for a hotel restaurant, and the restaurant wasn't very busy. I thought it was over-priced (not surprising for a restaurant in a hotel) for what you got.

Fred, our waiter made the day. He was attentive, knowledgeable and just down right nice. We ate outside on a Sunday morning. Would not recommend the inside...way too noisy and hotelly. Food was excellent. Would definitely return and sit in the patio and enjoy the fountain and food. Fred made an excellent wine suggestion as well.

Caprese provided a very pleasant experience. The glass wine and spinach salad were very good. Steak and pizza were more ordinary. Service was very pleasant but occasionally slow. Ambience was lively without being distracting. A solid effort for a hotel restaurant.

When we arrived at the restaurant it had been raining pretty steadily. The manager told us that service would be slow because so many hotel guests decided to eat at the hotel that evening instead of venturing out into Old Town. We appreciated his candor and decided to stay. We sat on the covered patio, which overlooks a courtyard and fountain. This would be a great place to sit on sunnier days, but it was fine on a rainy day, too. The manager was our waiter and took good care of us. He immediately brought us pita and hummus and filled our water glasses. We ordered a bottle of wine and two entrees. My husband had a pasta dish, which was okay, and I had the beef kabob, which was cooked perfectly and served on tabouleh with cucumber sauce.

We had a craving for Mediterranean food and opentabled this place... the only thing nearby that fit the trick. Brick fired pizzas. Pictures looked like a quaint little neighborhood restaurant. It's not. It's the hotel restaurant in the Embassy Suites.Actually, the menu looked a lot like the room service menu for a hotel. Turkey club sandwich. Cobb salad. Nothing looked Mediterranean or Grill. We were very disappointed. Actually, my wife was furious because she was craving med. food. The "specials" included "pasta" or "salad." Not cute and charming :(Also, the complementary bevs for happy hour were $9 for non guests :( double boo.Do not be fooled. Standard hotel restaurant.

We were there Christmas Eve and had hoped for an extra special evening. The service was lovely -- we were the only party in the place, but even so the waiter was charming. It was nice hotel food -- nothing more, nothing less. Pricey, but not especially tasty or well prepared.

Caprese was consistent with other reviews - fantastic food; great service; but with an OK atmosphere that didn't feel very special. Large room, cold, no linens on the tables, and the lighting was too bright. Compared to the atmosphere of the restaurant, the food shouldn't be nearly as good as it is. Hurry, before the Chef moves on to a 5-star restaurant!

Needed a place convenient for 3 couples. Caprese met that need, had good reviews and a menu appropriate for the group's' preferences. We were surprised to find it was in Embassy Suites Hotel. When arrived it was empty; not even waitstaff. We then had both. The wine list has 30 under $30. Based on the waitress' recommendation we picked Sidewise Pinot Noir. It was good. Our choices included rockfish, scallops and kabobs. Everyone enjoyed their food. We had other plans so we did stay for dessert. I recommend Caprese for anyone staying or visiting Alexandria. Another plus is the Metro stop across the street.
